Hello,
So I put a Hammer 1250 kit on my 99 X1 and it went together great! I had them do the heads with lighter valves and cams! Even got new pushrods of the right length so everything works together.
My question is this, I am still in the breaking in stage but when it gets over 3000 rpm it starts to break up like its cold. But it runs amazing for the light riding I have been doing.
Has anyone put a 1250 kit on there Buell? I truly think I have to adjust the timing but I'm not sure what the proper process is for setting timing on these bikes? Could it be the injectors?
I will eventually get the ECMSPY and change the mapping but I have not done anything with the computer yet.
Thank you for your help with this,
Josh

You are sucking more air than the stock map feeds fuel for. What you are experiencing is a lean condition. Get a EBR module and all will be well. If you don't address this issue, your motor will blow from overheating due to lean mixture.

Are you running the race ECU?

over 3000 rpm it starts to break up

Under steady acceleation @ around 3000rpm, Open loop learning kicks in and is felt by the rider like a miss-fire, it is predictable and perfectly normal.

Probably trying to nurse it a little too much.
Ride above 3000 rpm.}

I would get the ECM as soon as you can, you don't really want to ride it around with to low of an AFV (Adaptive Fuel Value)I know normally its between 90-110, anything lower than that may cause you to overheat that motor. Is the O2 Sensor new and have you done a TPS reset since the rebuild. All those can play a factor in the running condition during "OPEN LOOP" operations.

AFAIK EBR does not offer any thing for tubers
Get the standard Race ECM and a working ECM spy or if you have the means consult with a reputable Tuner, There are several that sponsor this board....

That's right. No EBR ECM for the tubers.

The ECM may be able to compensate for the additional 47cc by increasing the AVF. I don't have any direct experience with this. Your best bet, as others have noted, is to get it tuned, or get ECMSpy working. You may be able to find someone with a map already set up for this configuration, and simply upload it to your ECM. Those 1250 kits aren't all that uncommon. Somebody has to have a map for them.

Who are they? And why can't they do a proper job? This is like the 3rd X1 in like 6 months. Anyone can change the motor but nobody seems to be able to tune them properly.

I have this set up on my bike. I have a 1250cc Nrhs kit with lighter smaller valves and .536 SC cams. A force winder intake.........But i have a custom map and dyno tune to my exact build. The tuning was done in California by JTSperformance. I literally shipped my whole bike after a custom motor build to them for tuning after i broke in the motor. I do not have that problem with my bike and it is smooth as can be. I did however have to do a TPS reset when i got it to my altitude! Ran like crap up here and the idle hung up at 2200 rpm. After the reset it has been many years of no issues at all.
