My vote is stay with the 9 till u ride a 1125R.

I had my choice of a 03 9R and a 04 12R. for about the same money.

I went with the 9, Fast enuf, smoother lump and cheaper insurance.

This is going to cost you more than a grand if you consider how much you already put into your 9. I'd say if your bike was dead and you were in the market to have to buy, upgrade, if you're happy with the 9, stay with it.

Svo,

I DO think the 9 is smoother. It's not refrigerator, IL4 smooth, but it is smoother.

I suck at figuring out engine specs, but don't the 883 and 1200 have the same stroke, 3.81, with only the bore being different, 3.00 vs. 3.50.

Whereas the 12 has a 3.812 stroke vs the 3.125 of the 9 with the same bore of 3.50.

The shorter stroke would make the engine run and feel smoother, wouldn't it?

I talked with Al today at American Sport Bike. I can get a Direct Link, Micron System, and open air box kit for under $1300. According to Al, that should put me around 100HP at the rear wheel. That is more than any stock 12 can do. Although, who on this board would settle with a stock XB. The cool thing is that I can sell my race ECM, Drummer, and jet coated header to recoup a good portion of this mod. If the new mod's don't kill my urges then I might have to revisit this subject.

BTW, Thanks for all of the input. Everybody here rocks. This board, and the people who post here, is one of the deciding factors that sold me on a Buell instead of a Ducati when I was bike searching several years ago.

When I place my "opinion" on the 9, it tells me the engine is smoother! : D

I believe the 984 crank assembly is pounds lighter , another character factor.

I have owned both a 9 and a 12 and feel that the 9 is a smoother engine and overall a little bit nicer to ride than the 12. However, the torque of the 12 is addictive which kind of offsets things. I currently own a 12 and am looking for a 9 to add to the stable.

I have a 9 and find that it has more power than I will ever need.
I weigh over 230 lbs., passed a truck on a two lane hill yesterday mostly on the back wheel.

Slight thread jack!

Is anyone else here thrilled at the capability of the 12 to pass uphill in 5th gear? I smirk like a crazy person every time. Man, those suckers pull!
