I think I have a line on a 04' XB12 for $6000. The bike has about 3500 on the ODO. It has new tires, a Jardine, Race ECM, full luggage package, a Buell gel seat, and a handfull of other stuff.

My bike is an 03' XB9 and has about 6100 on the ODO. It has been professionally blacked out, has a drummer, ceramic coated headers, race ECM, CRG levers, Corbin seat, after markets bars, new tires, intergrated tail light, and hand full of other stuff. I think I have a buyer who will pay $5000.

The question at hand is; is the gain in performance worth the extra $1000. I would likely black this bike out, change out the Jardine for a Drummer, and a buy another Corbin. I want a 12 that is cosmetically the same as my 9. I want more power and more sound. Am I crazy or should I follow through with the deal?

Have you ridden the 12? I was surprised at how much I liked the 9 engine compared to the 12. The HP and torque isn't that much different between the two, but the engine is so much smoother.

Different is good. You are probably ready for a change.

I would really like a 9R. It is the complete antithesis of the Uly.

Damnut,

The picture in my profile is from when I first got the bike.........my bike looks like yours. I suppose I should update my profile.

if i ever upgrade, either add to or replace the city x, if i wanted to stay in the xb family i'd go with lightning long. bigger motor, bigger bike. i think that would give you two different feels more than a std xb12s.

I got rid of my 06 city X after only 3 months - it was a hoot but the 12scg kicks it - I love the extra grunt.
It was an expensive mistake for me but better in the long run. You have to go with your gut on these decisions.

I made the shift from an XB9R to an XB12R.

The price difference is greater than $1k. Add the tax you'd pay to the state and then the upgrades to black it out, it is not worth it.

I do like the low end torque the 12 provide when riding 2 up. I really enjoyed downshifting the 9 and blowing down the twisties. I like the smoothness of the 9 over the 12.

No one is asking the important question here.

Where and how do you ride?

If you ride like and where Gitch and the other 3%'s ride you would want to stick with the 9.

If you live and ride on the Slab all day and only hit the back road on occasion then get the 12.

Get the motor that you can use to it's fullest potential.

i like my 9! it will kick the crap out of my 12!

i also just prefer the way the 9 runs. instantly quick throttle response, although it does have alot of tuning. i am hoping my 1125 runs out like my 9 does

I still want a 12, but now we have the 1125R coming. Ugg... Decisions. The XB12X would be nice, but that XB12R.... 1125R.... uggggggg.

I think I might keep the 9. More than likely, I will do the open air box mod and swap out the Drummer for a Micron Serpent Exhaust System. I will try to squeeze a few more HP's out of the bike to see if that calms me down. The Micron should give me more grunt on the 4000-4500 range - which is where I need it. Thanks!!!!!

the micron is a good pipe, but the drummer seems to pull smoother. just get your ecm mapped for the drummer and you should notice a NICE difference.

From what I recall of Al (and other's) exhaust shootout, a 9 with a Micron is very near both the HP and the price of a stock 12... especially when you take into account the lower gearing / more revs of a 9.

A 9 with an 1150 kit, a micron, and some head work will soundly kick both the stock 9 and 12 behinds. Thats the real E-Ticket. You get the revs of the 9 with the stonk of the 12.

I'm not sure I understand this statement... I have a 12 and don't ever feel limited by it.

+1 what Xl1200r said.

Sure, the 9 may rev quicker and higher (?), but when you've got the torque of a 12, why bother? Can't see it being a hindrance in the twisties.

I don't know that I agree with what Spider is saying. I had a 9S and upgraded to a 12R and I ride the same roads as Glitch and Spider. My 12R would kick the crap out of my old 9S in every way up in the twisties. It's a different feeling bike, that's for sure, but the 12 pulls like a freight train from 3 grand and up and practically rips my arms out of the socket on every twist of the wrist.

Is it worth the money for the upgrade? I don't know? That's the question you have to figure out for yourself. I loved my 9S but I love my 12R even more.

Thinking of selling the 9 and getting a 12......Should I????
Absolutely!
The 12 is so much better than all the plus sides the nine has.
I don't know why this keeps getting debated.
The 12 is a stroked 9, if it weren't better, why did they build it?
Go buy your 12, and don't think twice about it.

Far be it from putting a word one in Spidey's mouth, but I have ridden both a 12 and a 9 on slab. The 12 was better at slab. In the twisties, both are great.

Okay, I can see this as stating that a 12 is better at the slab than a 9.

If you ride like and where Gitch and the other 3%'s ride you would want to stick with the 9.

But this still implies the 9 is better in the twisties, which I just can't agree with.

NO.
If you ride like and where Gitch and the other 3%'s ride you would want to stick with the 9.
This implies that difference in the 9 and 12 in the twisties doesn't justify selling the 9 (which he ALREADY HAS)

There's 2 bikes that confuse the hell out of me - in terms of decisions

No.1 the Nightster
No.2 the 1125r

So my point

Wait! for the 1125r - right now that bike may change us all.
the nightster just looks cool - thought I'd mention it anyway.

If I was you - i would seriously hang on to the 9 until the nightster , sorry I meant the 1125r comes out then check out the 12 & see if you still feel the same.
Hell you could put your 9 & the extra money your gonna spend as part payment for the 1125r.
Just my 2 pence
