When parking my bike in the garage after a ride, I can hear bubbling in the fuel tank/frame. Is that really the fuel boiling as I have read in a thread or two?
There is a bit of fuel smell in the garage after the ride but no fuel leak at all on my 2009 1125CR(2010 warranty engine). Is this dangerous or a problem in anyway? Is there a cure or is a cure necessary? I am getting ready to switch to Engine Ice coolant and will insulate the inner frame next time the engine is rotated for service, maybe ceramic coat the exhaust header/pipes too at that time. That would be "normal". I've heard mine do it several times, it's left a small puddle of fuel next to it at times when it's really hot out.

Lmao...really? never has my bike marked it territory on a hot day..gas boiling sounds like you need to tare down the engine and inspect! Welcome to Buell, all is well with your bike and its operating normally.

Putting a heat shield inside the frame around the rear manifold and around air box helps alot. I got mine at a local bike store it came in a 2x2 square and had a adhesive backing. I cut strips and used a wooden ruler to get it into the tight areas. I also park outside afyer rides for a half hour or so to keep my bike from smellin up the garage. Otherwise you can put a Cal can in the line and it will contain the dribble of fuel.ine still marks its territory about every ride just part of the 1126s personality.

Getting an EBR race ECM tuned for your intake/exhaust setup will run cooler(richer fueling).

I heard boiling in my frame back in 08/09, ECM maps totally sucked from Buell at first.

Never done it in the last 3 years.

1125crya and what exactly would I be looking for on an engine tear down? Coolant temps were normal, frame insulated.

I will say this happened only with my 08 when I had it. Did I like it no, could Harley fix it no, just accepted that when fuel was low it was in an aluminum frame by the back header which was already hotter, tr aluminum frame seemed to be a great heat sink for be engine.

If you are pulling the engine, insulating frame is a good way to mitigate heat. I had the unfortunate experience of a plugged vent tube, hot fuel and then opening the gas cap. Face full of gas - no bueno. Since insulating frame (and fixing vent tube), no problems with boil.

Kruizen, its More of a running joke, there is nothing wrong with your bike. I have a 09 as well, with much the same issues as you, but as someone stated get the EBR ECM
Definitely check your coolant level underneath your right POD..its a no brainer and a must check!
Clean your air filter once a month and that will help dramatically!
1 Thing to remember, don't over-fill your gas tank. There is a fix for your fuel drip and fuel vapors, it's called a Cali Can.

Figured as much. Sometimes I think everyone on here has been drinking way to much Buell cool-aid.

I don't have any issues with my 09(knock on wood) it was just the 08 I had, that had every issue under the sun.

Drummer and programmable ECM made a big difference.

depending on which online source you use, gasoline can "boil" anywhere between 90-400 F. However, at least the lower end of that spectrum doesn't produce the kind of bubbling you're referring to. Most likely, the bubbling you're hearing after you turn your bike off is the sound of hot oil and coolant inside the motor or coolant system.

Similar sounds cans be heard on most engines in most vehicles.

Gasoline, at room temperature, is always "off-gassing", and the process speeds up at higher temperatures. It is perfectly normal to find evidence of fuel escaping the fuel vent tube (in any vehicle).

The bike was not super hot, around 205F when I shut it off and had a full tank of fuel when I heard the gurging a few moments after parking it in the garage. No fuel leaks. I opened the gas filler cap and saw bubbles coming up so it was the fuel. Kept bubbling with the cap off for a couple moments then it stopped after it cooled off. Really no problem, I have just never seen anything like it on any of the 20 plus bikes I have had in 40 years of riding. I was concerned it could be dangerous but I see it is somewhat normal for this bike. It is a 2009 but I will add the additional insulation on the inner side of the frame whenever the engine gets rotated again unless someone tells me you can get it done using a yardstick with the engine in normal position? I already have a Barkers exhaust with matching EBR Race ECM but will likely fine tune with a PCV soon to make sure I am not lean anywhere. Does the boiling affect the quality of the fuel in the tank?? thanks for all the informative responses!! Mort

it boils and can easily be witnessed by looking down the fuel inlet. buy some gas after a nice urban ride on a hot day.

Be aware though if it's boiling and your curiosity takes you to open the cap, there's a VERY good chance boiling hot gas can come spewing out! Don't ask how I know. Have a good rag handy. Wear eye protection and long sleeves. Or just leave it alone to cool.

my '08 had a habit of having a piddle after a run. found that not filling quite so far helped a lot. left bit of space for expansion before it felt the need to take a leak?? i don know, but like a few of the guys here have said as soon as I put on an EBR ECM. not a single issue and yes the bike runs cooler too : )

Yes, I saw the fuel bubbling up at the inlet when I opened the cap, tank was just filled. Fortunately, none shot out at me. Never had any leak on the floor though I do smell the fuel in the garage after a ride. I already have the EBR ECM and it does run cooler, guess that is why I have not noticed the fuel boiling yet. It does get plenty hot down here in south Florida so I used my day off today to flush and put Engine Ice in. Hope that helps a bit. Mort

I couldn't handle the gas boiling issue since I park my bikes in a garage that shares space with a gas water heater, and a gas furnace. I didn't like the thought of gas fumes floating around in the garage waiting for a flame to ignite.
So rather than leave the Buell outside, I traded it for a Yamaha. Problem solved...

My bike had a serious gas boil problem, and it ran inconsistently "funny". Just not quite right. Would get real hot, too.

It was under warranty at the time, and after much diagnosis by the dealer, and with help from Buell engineers, it was found the vent system was bad, they replaced the vent in the tank, and the Cali canister, this cured the problem.

It seems they were able to duplicate the strange running conditions and boiling of the fuel in the tank by putting a valve in place of the vent and closing it! So they told me.

Never had the trouble again. Pulled the cali can myself, though, and have an EBR ecm in it now.

EBR ecm and switching to AMSOIL 20W-50 pretty much appear to have solved my heat issues, which in turn, solved the fuel boiling issue. I still get the fuel vapour smell after a stop and go ride in traffic, but it isn't really a problem. When the smell is really bad, I just leave the bike outside for 10 - 15 mins and voila, no need to buy a Yamaha! : D
