$1,125 for bags+hardware. The seat is only $220. So that's $1345. Leaving $655 for side rails+wiring+battery relocation. IMHO, that's not enough. $2500 to $3000 would be a minimum IMHO.

To make those side rails isn't a small undertaking. Between the reverse engineering, CNC programming, Setup and machine time... But if someone wants to give me an 1125R for about 3 to 4 months... : )

If I had the spare cash, I'd pick one up myself and have it done for Homecoming. I'd like to outdo what I did for last year : )

I think It is still *DOABLE* IMHO, for under $3k above and beyond the price of a new 1125R.

If I get some extra time this fall/winter, I'm probably going to reverse engineer and model up the side rails just for giggles. And then program it to see what kind of fixtures and time it will take at the machining center.

Makes Corbin bags look reasonably priced.

I checked, they have no plans to make them for the 1125. Bummer.

There is a way around it. Just gotta think out side of the off the shelf approach. Get the H&B bag rails for the lightning, bolt them up to the 1125r (you may have to extend or modify the plate halo). Weld sheet metal over the hoops, this will allow you to fit virtually any bag to it., hard monnt the givi, corbin, hd, fatbagger etc you love and call it good. for a tail bag, mount a plate under the seat pan for metal support to the rails for a tail bag, prob gotta keep the weight low on that. I did some renderings this week after seeing the bike. It is doable. Buell should make something like it as an accessory pack option, like for the ULY.

Hey guys I am trying to get the bike looking good with bags, I orderd chase harper stealth saddlebags I think they might match the pods up front, I think that is the trick to get saddle bags that match up to the pods, next is a tail bag and Axio has one that I like and is cowl shaped but J&P cycles got a storage pod that I really like and is cowl shaped, I am hoping these work out really good. I also got a uly with the bags and want to check out to see if the saddlebag frames would fit, seen some nice hard luggage, I use to be a metal fabercator and welder, I have a piece of shit mig welder but a tig welder would be really nice, and if I stop buying bike parts I probably should get one and make things, when I am done and looking good I will post the pictures but might take awhile I am broke. Cityslicker's post got me thinking...
Why not make a modular bag rail that simply clicks in where the rear passenger seat goes?
It would just need the front lip and rear latch in the same position.
Should be a suitably strong interconnect and easily/quickly removable. Could even stow the regular seat/cover in the luggage and swap it on the go.

It would also have the benefit of being compatible with the Firebolts.

Chameleon, I just seen that same setup your are talking about, a plate that goes were the rear seat is and fits a big bag on it and then has two side bags, will try to find it again and post the website that I seen it on. I did not like it, it was ugly but a good idea. I am trying to find saddlebags to match the pods and will look good on the bike, I got two tail bags I like, and like the look of them like they made to belong on a sport bike. I am going for looks, then will figure out how much I can pack for touring, then I will figure out things that are important to bring with me and things I can do with out. When touring you have to be prepaired for all kinds of weather and tempatures and I am looking for the right riding gear that will handle any weather and tempature, a heated jacket liner and gloves that pack small are a start and then you do not have to pack allot of clothe for the weather the electric gear will keep you warm so all you need in a good long sleeve t shirt to wear underneath the jacket, and I figured out that I can get buy with one change of clothes when one get dirty I will go to the laundrymat and use the time there to plan were and what I want to do the next day and also go over the bike to make sure everything is good to go, I also read to pack sandles instead of sneakers and there is a nice pair on aerostich that you can do anything like hiking or walking and can get wet and dry quickly plus they saves weight and space. I also put together few kits, a toletries kit, first aid kit, tire repaire kit and tools which can be stored in the bike under the seats, I have the ulysses under seat bag and it fits tightly under the front seat, plus there is room above the battery threw access from the front seat and I carry a bike tow strap there, I can even put my tools in front of the battery there is allot of room under the front seat, which surprised my and can carry a good amount of tools, tire kit, flashlights, things you really hope you do not need but will be there if you do. I plan on touring with this bike so I am trying to figure out what I have used in the past and then figure out what I really need to bring with me, I have allot of info on touring and maybe I will do a post on all the tips I have. Now I am going to look for that website. Mike

This patent is similar in concept to what I'm talking about in that it is luggage that snaps into place, but Buell already sells that.

What I'm talking about is just a luggage rack that would snap-on in place of the pillion seat and accept any luggage system.

Could even be implemented as a modified pillion seat which would have integrated luggage rails out to the sides for mounting such luggage.

check out Axio tail bag and ztechnik 4 liter storage pod which I am buying and if I had a tig welder I could do what you want and would be quiet easy to do but what I would do it find a used seat cheap and take it to a metal fab shop and tell them what you want and they should be able to do it, I have thought about doing the same thing but I would have to buy a welder to weld aluminium which is not easy to do, I want the luggage to look like it belongs on the bike so check out those bags and let me know what you think. i have an '06 uly, w/bags and love it. also used to have an xb9. been riding for 45 yrs and the uly is probably my all time favorite street bike because of comfort, handling, and luggage. would consider trading it for an '08 xb12t but would rather have the 1125 motor and handling package. rode the 1125 at mid ohio and loved it but for comfort. heard there are a couple of places going to make new top triple clamps for the 1125 so as to fit higher bars. would consider this but would rather wait for the factory 1125 uly. make it soon, i'm getting old.

love to ride do not get the xbxt the xbx has the 47mm forks and turn more, I had a hard time deciding between the 08 xbx or the 1125R and glad I picked the r it is comfortable to me and have done several runs of over 200 miles no problem and are getting small bags and a tail bag and this should be enouph for me to tour on, the xbxt has the old forks and I have picked up firebolt forks with traxxion suspension components and rear shock but having a custom rear shock I think it can be lowered and still have six inches of suspension with the right shock. I still like this idea for hard bags, but the cost and wide variety of mounting mechanisms make it nigh impossible for me to devise and manufacture... Unless I were able to obtain mounting measurements for a lot of bag systems and make the mount generic enough to accept virtually any... But then it would likely be fugly.

I like the look of those Firstgear Silverstone soft bags and will probably just go that route.

Chameleon I just found out last week when my other bike broke down that I could put the teknic bags on top of the bags I got now on the bike,

I went shopping watching how much I thought would fit with the bags and was surprised to find out I could have bought a lot more than I did,

the teknic bags are like the silverstones and also open up for even more storage which I did not have to do,

the Chase Harper bags are mounted semi permanent so I put one strap under the tail bag and one went under my seat and worked real good,

now when I go touring I can bring the kitchen sink.

I might get a tig welder for my birthday,

if I did I could make a frame that would lock into the bike like the rear seat,

I have noticed that allot of hard bags fit the same opening the ulysses take and I have a ulysses with hard bags so having both bikes I could fabricate something nice,

only problem is the tig welder is expensive.

Selling your creations would likely cover the cost of the welder in a short time...
Particularly if you were able to sell the design rights to Buell or an aftermarket manufacturer...

I guess you were thinking big,

I was just thinking of making it and selling a few,

I need to have a good talk with my son,

he has the money I have the talent and there are other things I could do,

welding was my job but got hurt so there are lots of uses that I could use a tig welder for.

I do have a mig welder but it is a cheapo and not very good at welding,

the best way would be to buy a used one from a factory they can stick weld to and be used as a power generator so if a bad storm came and knocked out power we would be all set,

I would have to buy other bending tools and equipment to go with it.

I think renting time in a shop would create insurance problems and do not know anyone that I could ask.

I was also thinking of buying used bikes and fixing them up to resell and need a lift and other tools.

Thanks for the idea I will show my son what you wrote and see if he wants to invest in me.
