OK: question coming up!
When I reassemble diaphragm on the carb in what order do I place the parts inside it?

Should it be:
Needle with shims, brass "bit", plastic "bit", spring and then put lid on?
I swear I am going bananas over this.
I haven't disassembled a carb in 25 years & my memory is playing tricks on me.
On the bright side of all things related to my ongoing issues, I have cured the intake leak that began all of this.
FWIW: the float is in the correct position & the slow jet works fine as I can get the motor to idle.
All help gratefully received.

There are a few links and pictures in the carb section.....let me think....I believe the needle goes in first, the shims under the rim of the needle, then the plastic guide that centers the spring and holds the needle down.

The brass bit? I think that is the part for Mikuni carbs that hold the needle in....LOL. I do thnk the needle is held down by the plastic guide, I dont remember the brass thing. Anyways it would go on the top of the needle.

needle through shims - so shims first then needle, then rest - picture in carb section.

Thanks fella's: That is what I had reckoned the order is but I was having a senior moment & I didn't want to screw it all back together just to have to take it apart again.
I even looked at the diagrams until my eyes bled but that didn't help!

Hi, Folks,
Long story & pretty boring, but I figured out the reason my bike (with totally unknown history) would start (sorta) & almost run (sorta), but certainly would not run WELL. As it turns out, the spring in the top of the carb is MISSING.
Like I said, totally unknown history. So the first thing I need is the part number of the spring that sits on top of the slide. If anyone knows of an easy source for that kinda thing, that'd be cool, too.
Second thing would be, is there an exploded view of the Blast carb available anywhere (who knows what else my carb might be missing)?
BTW, I'm highjacking this thread be cause I can't figure out how to start a new one. The FAQs talk about "click on a "Create New Conversation" or "Start New Thread" button", but I haven't seen those buttons anywhere. Sorry for the highjack, but this did seem to kinda fit here...

You could probably get one from ANY Harley shop that just put a stage one kit on a carb. I think that is what they do, or someone that put the Dynojet kit in because it comes with the diaphragm spring.

Just don't tell them what it is for, under no circumstance tell them that it is for a Buell otherwise they will not even look for the part.

Tell them it is for a Sportster. Make up a year, like a 2001, 1200, or 883, it just won't matter, but if you go in looking of a Buell part you could be looking at it in the display case and they will swear that it is not for a Buell.

Yeah! True dat!! When I first figured out the spring was missing I just trotted down to the local H-D dealer & all I got was a "we don't do Buell". No indication the carb was at all similar to anything else in the H-D lineup. Now as I read more & learn more about this carb, if I'd known it was nearly identical to a Sporty carb, I mighta got somewhere.
So, would looking for a Dynojet kit for an 883 be the way to go to get this carb set up right?
Anyone out there got a pile of extra diaphragm springs sitting around?
Anyone got any ideas on the exploded (& labeled) view of the Blast carb? Or a Sporty carb maybe?

I am sorry I don't have any springs!

But try a local non-Harley dealer, like a local bike shop. Tell them you are looking for a slide spring for a sportster CV carb, you will be suprised what you find. A Dyno jet kit is another way but about $90, and then they use Keihen jet thread sizes and a different main emulsion tube. The Keihen jets offer a different range of sizes, but the thread diameter and pitch is different. The Dyno Jet instructions tell you to drill out the vacuum port on the slide to .125, as the first thing to do, and even supply the drill bit.

Don't bother with a Dyno Jet kit - the jets are one size smaller than marked - so their 170 is a 165, their needle is way fat to make up the leanness, and you would still have to get a HD slow jet 45, and finally their instructions are wrong for a Blast, you only have to compare them to the Buell twin instructions to see their error - for parts at a non HD store - go to Suzuki/Kawasaki (whatever) KLR 650 dealership - tired and DGAS - the KLR carb is a Kehin CV 40 carb - you can get jets and parts there - the Dynojet kit is shit and a waste of money.

I searched the part number & came up with a few places that list the spring for about $2.80.
I expected it to be much more than that (you know what "H-D" stands for, right? "Hunnert Dolla" because everything that says "H-D" on it is at least a Hun.)
Now I can take the part number to the dealer & just tell him to order it - no need to know what it's for.
Thanks for the info on the Dynajet kits, too. Sounds like that's not the way I need to go.
