Blaststunter: A while back someone broke off his passenger pegs wheelieing just like that. Although he was a bit heavier than you, I'd check the mount from time to time.

Nice job making those smooth! Mine look like a real hack-job compared to those - they look like they came that way!

Yeah. I lucked out at having professional fabricators at my disposal for this type of work. I cut everything myself, but the welding and sanding was done by a fabricator that I work with. Then I primered it and painted it with the titanium touch up paint then put a clear coat on.

Eric - Put the whole story of the bike here if you can! I've got a soft spot for both Thumpers and S2's, so I'd really like to hear more about your bike.

I've done this on more than one list, so I'm going to try to put it all in one post so I can copy & paste if necessary later...: )

The project started out when I was racing 883 sportsters, and was looking for a different class since the big money had taken over. I'd always liked singles, and SOS class was strong then. I was talking with my friend Ron Hamp at RHC racing about what motor to use; I was working at H-D of Miami at the time, so I made a joke about lopping a cylinder off one of the 883s. Being just the sorts to try to figure out how to make a slow thing as fast as possible, he suggested that it should be a Buell. I said that a 65 cubic inch single would get the job done...then things snowballed and got serious. The more we looked into the motor, the less and less shortcomings we found; Ron has a great deal of experience with all brands of singles and knew where they all came up short.
So, in the end it was decided that the intake valve size would be the factor which limited displacement; Ron figures he can make a 2.300" intake valve feed a 4-1/4" bore by 3-13/16 stroke to 7500rpm. Cylinder, Cylinder head, and Con rod are Shumaker Racing big twin billet. Carb may be S&S Super D, if it works well just to keep it all American. Ignition is a custom magneto by ARD. Piston is a JE BB Chevy slightly modified and lightened. The '95 Buell S-2 chassis was donated by the Buell Factory; Engine cases by H-D Warranty department, as was the crankshaft. Andrews products sponsored the close-ratio transmission, pushrods, valve keepers and top secret (haha) camshafts. S&S gave the rockerbox. Jims Machining provided rocker arms, tappets, and crankpin. RHC Racing is doing the engine development and cylinder head porting. On to the fun bits;
The engine as it stands is 4 x 3-13/16 inches or 102mm x 97mm for 784ccs. Bore will be 4.250 (108mm) as soon as the cylinder is ready (likely before the small motor runs) for displacement of 888ccs. Compression will be a very reasonable 11:1, with a 2.2:1 rod ratio.
The computer model has shown as much as 96 crankshaft hp., which should translate to 85-90rwhp. One of the most appealing characteristics of this motor is that the parts are nearly all off-the-shelf H-D aftermarket stuff, with proven durability; The crank, engine cases and transmission won't be stressed any more than with a moderately warmed up twin. A few of the perks that showed up along the way compared to other singles; great rod ratio, minimal crankcase pumping losses and an infinite camshaft selection. I haven't had the engine assembled to weigh yet, but the crankshaft assembly is 11 lbs lighter than stock; guessing that all the missing second cylinder bits and starter will lose another 40lbs or so; putting it on the standard race diet should net 50-80lbs lighter than a stock S-2. It'll be considerably heavier than most of the competition, but with a horsepower advantage over even the strongest competitors (?) and far more torque off the corners it should keep up, and hopefully the extra mass will pay off in fewer/no DNF's.

Very interesting. I'll have to check out that magneto. I definitely like the 'off the shelf' approach.

Well...I really can't say. We started this project in '98, I think, and shelved it when SOS fell apart. Nothing has been done for 5 years. I moved to Florida from Michigan last fall, so all the pieces were shipped up to RHC. All the pieces to finish it are there now, except the final porting work; Much of the reason I've posted it up lately is to gauge how much interest there is in it. Theoretically, it could be finished in a few weeks, but I'm 1400 miles away now and Ron is very busy. I'm shooting for the '07 season. There's a good possibility that it'll get some track testing this year, and I'd like to take it to Bonneville for the show.
I've been looking at Blasts as a replacement for my Guzzi streetbike, because the girls can't ride it-naturally, we'd all like to race two classes, too. I'll be talking to Ron about Blast engine mods.
As for Diesel; I have a plan for an Iron sportster diesel. The problem is finding a pump that will work, with two cylinders or one. It's still milling around in the back of my head.

Its a buell, and its a thumper - so of all the forums you've posted it on - I'd say you finally found your home.

I can't wait to hear that bike is running!

I think you should buy a Blast and let your buddy Ron have his way with it. : )

I want to know if that motor will fit in my blast. That should be an E-ticket ride then.

Diesel.......Now you're talking.
HDT is making that military dirt bike, supposed to do a civilian version of it. 102 Miles per gallon!!!
I want a V-twin diesel in the 60-90 hp range to put into a FatBoy or some other likely Harley frame. Some guy used a Yanmar engine, but it puts out 30ish hp and he runs veggie oil in it. Apparently smells like a french fry going down the road.
Sorry for the hijack. I have a Chevy Duramax that I really like, and now I want a diesel bike.

It would have to be a turbodiesel, or unrealistically large displacement.

Hey guys remember to throw in a pic now and again!
I saw a pic of a Diesel twin - turbo - 90something hp and 142 ftlbs of torque - do a search of the BADWEB - should turn it up since I saw it here - bike looked slick as heck - Euro - wish they'd produce it - they said they where planning to - last I read on the topic!

Yeah Baby - nice catch - see the specs - hell - I'd buy one if sold in the US - that much torque must be fun in the launch!

I'm Jo Spiggle and I don't have a pic, but I am a Blast enthusist. I just wanted to introduce myself to the Thumper area because I will spend most of my time here. I have a 2001 P3 thats pretty sweet. It only has 328 miles on it, and I bought it last Saturday with 120! But it has a terrible fuel problem right now.

I really like what I've read here so far. This seems like a great place to learn about everything Buell because I am only 17 and this is my first road year. ( been on bikes since I was 11 though )Well I am gonna try to solve this problem now.

Oh yeah! I met "BlueonBlack" (sp) today in Manasass test riding a CityX and he suggested I come here.

Thanks,
Doc Jo
