We carry race fuel, but I doubt you 'll need to blow $$$ on it for the Blast, Erik. The race bikes use it since we've tweaked the compression ratios and they ping using standard pump gas.

The drive chains look loose, but they aren't. The tension is set when the sprockets are lined up, which is the maximum distance between them. When the suspension isn't compressed, the chain is pretty loose. We'll have to set the Blast up the same way.
Since the primary sprockets don't move, we set them by the FM.

I doubt the shop carries the needles you want. I know we do have the dynojet kits with the adjustable needle, so that's a possible solution.

Holler if you guys need an extra hand with anything, my evenings are open for the next couple weeks.

I'm just worried about knocking/pinging/grenading when running the Blast at redline (7500-8000) rpms continuously. (Running 4 deg advanced over stock and full advance curve on ignition. Also running higher than stock compression, 10.5:1 on paper).

AH! I didn't know that.
Well in that case, we should tune the bike using the fuel you plan to use. You won't need anything higher than the 103 that we carry.
A couple of options:
Tune it at the track on a track day - No extra dough
Tune it on the dyno - $$$ for time.
What do you think?

Well, unless the track has a dyno and exhaust sniffer I'm better off starting at the dyno. I'm just no good (or inexperienced without any patience) at carb tuning and I'd be unwilling to bet on someone who has the talent & experience will also have the time to do it at the track.
While the track is the ultimate test, I want to be as prepared as possible before we get there.
(I dont want to be 'that guy' who always shows up unprepared and expects everyone to help him out.)
Also when you say "we carry 103 gas" who do you mean the track, Glendale, Bartels or?

The dyno it is.
As far as "being that guy", That's what we are all there for! We help each other out and have fun doing it =)
Without the support network we've built up over the years, none of us would be out there. It's more fun having a bunch out there, pooling our resources, and helping each other with these kinds of tuning issues.
How else would I be sponsored by Glendale, riding a Bartels bike, and getting help from Mad Dog racing?
The more Buells we get out there, the happier we are!
Oh, and the "we" is GHD/B. =)

Fun news!
I'll be riding a (almost) bone stock Blast in this Sunday's 500 singles race. Rearsets and a V&H pipe - that's it. I'm leaving the horn on for fun.
Come on out and see how it goes! And bring a sundial to check my lap times

It was so freaking cool watching Matty this weekend. He was tuked in so tight on the main straights that you could bearely see that someone was on the bike!! I was a great race, Matty had Eric Compton beat until lap 6, we thought Matty might actually catch him and pass him back.

This Blast was completely stock in the motor department with the exception of a modified stock airbox, exhaust and a rejet. The chassis was stock except for rearsets and crossroads bars... What a hoot to watch.

I've got to get out there in November.

Matty proved that a stock Blast can be a viable racer in the 500 singles class holding 2nd place for most of the race.
Yes, those are stock Dunlops!!!

Matty do you have the link for all the Blast lap times. (would like to see if the Blast actually got slower when hot or the Honda just got faster halfway through the race).

What we have is an inverse proportion =)
My tires and motor overheated as his tires and engine finally came up to temp ... or something.
The worst part of the whole race was the start - there is just no way to get a good launch on that thing. Talk about getting left in the dust! I think if I'd had a better start and not had to work through the field, I may have been able to hold onto second for the finish. What's the plan for you and James?

I didnt hear what the problem with the launch was?

November is the plan (no track school in October?!), but James is probably going need a pit crew Saturday as I'll have to work.
I dont really have much to do to the bike. As soon as the carb parts come in I'll be able to get it dyno'd.It ran fine on the street with the exhaust as the only change since. The eventual stripping of the lights, bolting on the lightning race fairing and the minimal safety wire is all thats needed.
The belly pan is really the only thing we dont have or isnt on order that we'll need to make.
James has got the itch to race and I'm anxious to see what we'll need to change after a few races.
It seemed from your run on Sunday that the stock gearing (except 1st?) may be fairly close to whats needed and we'll have an extra 1000 rpm to use.

The problem with the launch was that there was no power!
25hp can only do so much and I think I was slipping the clutch way too much. Oh well, next time.
What exhaust are you gonna use? Is it the WB high pipe? If that's the case, we can use the one I fitted the the GHDB Blast - We'll be able to fit it closer to the engine cases and keep it off the ground. That will be another big plus for you guys!
=)

Matty,
Not bad considering the 2 riders with better lap times, and onlt one significantly faster had nearly twice the horsepower and times were faster than some with more power. WAY TO GO!!!

The WB high pipe is already mounted up. It does mean that we may be able to use the same style belly pan you ran on sunday with better success (since there is no muffler under the engine, we can mount it a little higher).
