Matty,
Thanks for the heads up on the swingarm mount. If/when you get a chance, could you post pics of the mount on the S1/Blast so I have a rough idea when I get in there?
I have the S2 for a compare/contrast guide on that, too so it'll be a little work but hey, that's why they invented welding : )

We actually have a template created from my trashed set of cases. Going forward, we will be able to quickly and cleanly alter the cases for fitment. I'll snap some pics of Blast, but they will be of the prototype that I ride. The set Will is currently working on will be mucho cleaner.

Templates??!?? I have lathe access should a drawing of said template come my way in the next 6 months hint hint hint : )
I'm going to try to keep the same goal you have - do this cheap, ebay etc. I'm over the 1000 buck mark getting the bike and frame, but I'll have most of a Blast to part out in the next few months to try and recoup some of that.

Matty must be asleep (or not given to bragging) - so I'll post it here:

Matty transitioned to Expert this weekend and WON the 500 singles Expert class on the Blast-powered S1!

Waaaay to go!

I'd like to see a first-person report from him. He's got lots to be proud about.

C'mon MATTY!!

It aint my story this time!

(short bit of it for those who are curious)
I don't want to steal his thunder but really would like to say that the really cool thing is that he reports that the Blast-powered weapon is a sweet-handling bike and is really FUN to race.

The other thing about singles racing is the speeds just are nowhere near those of the bigger bikes and the fields are a little smaller (though I'd wager with the Supermotard bikes out there, we're going to be seeing the singles fields getting larger) Large fields might be good for spectators but it can get scary on the track.

I'd also bet that if any one of you ever thought of getting into racing, it'd be hard to find a cheaper way than on a single. Purchase price, simplicity of working on 1 v. 4 cylinders - twice the tire mileage.

Anyhoo - I'll let Matty give a lap-by-lap himself. He's gotta get us a report for our race group newsletter coming out in a week or so.

There is an M2 frame for sale at the Badweb classifieds. I dont know jack about anything else but XB's & P3's so I dont know if an M2 is a viable Blast race frame.
Just though anyone who was interested in other frame options might like to know its for sale.

CCS Race 5-1-05 Jennings GP AM # 777

Well the day started out wet, lots of rain. All the races I ran in were declared wet races. I found out why they make rain tires and wish I had some.

1st race was Ultra Light Weight Super Sport

We gridded up with the Expert Ultra Light Weight Super Sport in the first wave.
2nd wave was Amateur Ultra Light Weight Super Sport

Behind us were the vintage classes Amateur and Expert Light Weight and Heavy Weight

My spot was row 6, very back of the Amateur group. I was amazed and what was considered Light Weight. Needless to say I had he smallest bike in my group, I was very nervous. I have never run the track in the rain so I just figured run the best I can and see what happens. Things looked pretty good up through turn 1 after that I never saw the rest of my group. Those people were running like it was a dry track, my rear tire started to slide out at about 75 into turn 1. Well I kept at it and ran the best I could, by the end of Lap 2 the Heavy Weight Vintage class was up on me and I was buzzed by the leader of the group. Lap 3 and 4 I was able to keep up with the leader of the Heavy Weight Vintage class. I had a ball trying to keep up with this person he was real good, laps 5 and 6 were spent with my rear tire stepping out on me every time I got a little to ambitious in the corners. Well anyway I placed 5th in my group that I started with, last in my class. Had a great time during this race, time to sit back and watch other races until my next race later in the day.

2nd race of the day was Formula 40 Light Weight (Light Weight bikes are even bigger than the Ultra Lights)

Once again another 2 wave race

Wave 1 were the experts

Wave 2 were the amateurs

My spot row 13, once again back of the pack. Found out later in the day your grid position is determined in the order you entered the race. So the earlier you register the closer to the front you will be. The rain had let up a bit before our race so the track did not have as much standing water. I was ready for this one, had one race under my belt and I was going to beat them all. Got a great start and ended up mid pack into turn, I must say that this scared me. So I held my line did not act like a spaz and made it through into the back straight. I started loosing places by the end of lap 2 and by the end of lap 3 I was next to last in my group, but at least I was not last this time. The bike in front of me was an Aprilia 250 and I was not going to let this let guy stay ahead of me. I was able to get on his rear in the back section of the track and almost pass. We would hit the front straight and he would be gone, repeat this process for the next 2 laps. Final lap of the race I was able make a pass on the inside in the back part of the track but I was not able to make it stick. He took the outside on the next turn and led me into the final turn before the finish line. I was able to get back up on his back tire but did not have enough speed to pass him in the final stretch. Placed 7th in this race, overall I had a great time.

Pictures to come later once I can get hold of the track photographer.

Have a great day

Thanks for sharing Mmelvis. Tis better to have raced and lost than to never have raced at all!
Congratulations!

On an unrelated note, I picked up some new race leathers today for $250 in hopes that this year, despite the pain and injuries, I'll be able to get some track time. What the heck, the Blast's no longer new, its out of warranty and already on a salvage title.

A local shop where I buy my tires had them on sale red tagged at $40 off the already good price of $499. When I went in last week they had them marked %50 off normal retail. They actually had one that fit.
Well, I swapped out my Kenda's for Pirelli's and asked for the Kendas back since they had plenty of tread left on them. They 'lost' the rear and offered to get me another one. I said how about half price off the red tag price on the suit instead.Done deal! They really are more of a dirt bike shop hence getting rid of the slower moving street stuff.
New Enough Motorcycle Leathers (on the web) has some (I think) Joe Rocket suits on sale for about $360, regular price $540.

LOL!
Nah, I love snakes.
I earned that name at last years BRAG trackday in Pahrump.
I think we had 20+ Buells out there. Anyway, I digress...

Todd @ sportbike track time, gave me that name after I went off the track in turn 8, which lies at the end of a 1850' straight, and ended up parking in a sagebrush somewhere in the middle of the Nevada desert.
While I was dusting myself off, I heard a hissing noise and thought I'd riled up a snake den or something...
It turned out to be my header cooking the leaves of the sagebrush.
He tells the tale much better than I can, but needless to say I'm now stuck with the nickname =)

CCS Race 5-1-05 HomeStead (MiamiSpeedway)
AM # 777

Well the day started out wet, went out for my practice session did a few laps ok and then came the wonderful water puddle in turn 4. Went off the track and slid for about 70 feet, found out the blast can cut grass pretty good. Picked the bike back up got it started and rode the around the infield to get the bike off the track. Spent 2 hours removing mud and grass from the bike. My pride was the only thing damaged in this get off.

Race 1 for me was Ultra Light Weight Super Sport
Not paying attention to the announcements I watched the race from the stands. Half way through the race a little bell went off in my head, I am supposed to be down there. Race was called early due to rain started as a dry race.

2nd race of the day was Formula 40 Light Weight
This race was called wet, someday I will get to run a race that is dry. My position on the grid was in row 12, race started out great until turn 3. Stayed on the track this time but when I got into the turn my belly pan drug through the full turn. Same thing happened through the next 4 turns, full lean and loud grinding. By lap 3 I guess the corner workers had enough of this, I was flagged off the track and had the joy of watching the race I was supposed to be in from the side lines.

The track all I can say is it was great what few laps I did get to ride.

Speedway Facts:
Speedway Length: 1.5 Miles
Turn Radius: 650 feet
Banking: 20-degree, variable banking
Turn Width: 80 feet
Straightaway Length: 1,760 feet
Straightaway Banking: 4-degrees
Straightaway Width: 55 feet

Time to rework the belly pan design for a little more ground clearance for banked turns.

Pictures to come later once I can get hold of the track photographer.

Have a great day

You need a flat-track style exhaust so you can bring that belly pan up tight!

James, since my last attempt at racing left me with the same vertigo I was still suffering 3 months after my accident, I think its going to be awhile before I can safely hit the track. But since I did enjoy going to the races, I'm thinking about race-prepping my Blast and letting someone else ride it (you), if they want too.
Have any thoughts on that?
Or does anyone else have any thoughts on that?
