Shotgun, there is no room what so ever here at my house for working on the bike. In fact the bike is just sitting out in front of my house...lol...anyways, do you happen to have any room and have a bike lift? I need a bike lift because I have still yet to get the rear sprockets changed out, and the new rear tire balanced.

Hey Spudman, sounds like a plan. My wife and I are always looking for good roads to ride and good people to ride them with. Of course, Feb in the Palouse is pretty chilly. Come the thaw you'll have to show me where you found that road you posted the pictures of. The general consensus around the picnic tables at SPLASH was the need to have a "Spudrun" next year.

Thanks for stopping Shotgun, I don't know what happened but I suspect you are right about the cut-off switch (loud bang followed by no power)
The bike ran all the way home with no problems after that. Thanks Chris, Loni, and Steve for the fun ride.

Buell Brener, Thanks for joining us! It was a nice ride. We did a total of 320 miles! Are you going to make it to Border Raid?

Tried to call today and make reservations for Border Raid but they were closed. I will try tomorrow from work.

It looks like Cody's race on Border Raid weekend was cancelled, so if all comes together then Mike and I will be there. We need to figure out accommodations etc.

Oh for havens sakes! The Seahawks are just stinking up the place.

How can they look so good against Green Bay and so bad tonight against the Broncos? On the other hand, the NY Jets are up 31-7 against Indianapolis, and the Super Bowl champs New England are down 31-3 to Cincinnati. Go figure.

Hello!

I'm in Seattle and I've become enamoured with Buell. I'm thinking about a Blast (new rider) but fallen in love with the XB9SX and or an M2 Cyclone. My fiancee and I are doing research on bikes and I have a few questions for the locals. Is there a specific dealer around here that is recommended? Recommended to stay away from?

Any other recommendations or other words of wisdom for a new rider looking at Buells?

Thanks!
Brian

Oh Brian,

You just don't know what you're asking. This could lead to major trouble. Let's just hope Court doesn't troll this corner of the BadWeB.

Right up front I want to tell you I'm totally full of s***. I don't have a clue, I don't own a Buell, I've never ridden one of the new ones and you shouldn't believe anything I tell you.

So, here's what you should do, trust me on this:

Look directly at the Blast then turn 180 degrees and run directly toward the XB. Never look at or think about another Blast again as long as you live.

The M2 was a great bike in it's time but it's not for the faint of heart. Owning one of the older bikes requires a huge investment in tools and time. A tuber isn't something that you own, so much as you are equal partners in some sort of a kinky S&M relationship.

The new bikes are much better designed, better built and work better too. I don't like the way they look as well as the older bikes, but that's just me. If you really want a tuber and know ahead of time what you're getting into then it's probably just the right bike for you. However, if you're just looking and don't really know what you want then I say get the new XB.

Buy the bike where you can get the best deal. You aren't making friends with the nice people in the sales department, this is just a business transaction. Later on you can have the bike serviced anywhere that suits you.

Ray is partly right Pumpski, which is unusual for him.
Buy a Blast as a beginners bike and you will have a ton of fun, for a year or so. It will teach you how to ride. Used is as good as new since they are very reliable. When you are ready to move up, it will be a great bike for your fiancee too.
If you like working on your own bikes, buy a M2 and have a ball. Lots of great units around for $3500 to $5000, less if you want a project, more if you want a show bike. The M2 can teach you to ride well.
If you aren't interested in the Zen of Motorcycle maintenance, buy an XB model. Reliable, fun, 2 yr warantee, but lousy as a 2-up bike, in my opinion, about as much fun as riding the back of an old S-1 which had a nominal passenger seat the size and thickness of 2 wraps of duct tape on a kotex.
I don't know of a Harley dealer in the PNW who is truly supporting Buell (Gootch in Vancouver BC excepted). So, like Ray said, find your cheapest deal locally or nationally (shipping can be cheap if you can get a couple grand knocked off the bottom line) and then look for the local dealer with the least-worst reputation. One with a factory trained Buell graduate would be preferred. Portland doesn't have one currently, though there is one in Vancouver, WA.

Thanks guys!

This is exactly the type of advice that I was looking for. While I'm ready to do minor work on my bike, I don't want a project. I'm sure that every bike is different and the care that the previous owner took of it is the most important aspect of buying used bike.

Right now I'm more concerned about a bike for her. She's never ridden before and we're looking for a bike that is low, comfortable, and confidence inspiring. We went to a dealer to check out a Blast yesterday, but they sold it a couple of hours before we got there. She sat on a 250 Ninja and felt comfortable on that. If I'm not mistaken the Blast has a seat that is still another 4 inches lower, so that would be a good thing.

I think I'll stay on the lookout for an XB. I have to admit that I really like the new XB9SX.

Thanks again!
