I needed a clutch cable for my XB12S. I ordered a clutch cable from Patriot HD a week ago. The guy said they would have it in a week. Well the parts guy called me today and they cant get the clutch cable because they are not a authorized Buell dealer. Even though it registered in their computer. So I asked the guy if I was on a road trip and I needed a part for my bike and I just so happened to roll into Joe Blow HD and they are not a authorized Buell dealer I'm screwed. WTF HD? |

Yeah, some dealers werent Buell dealers and they arent able to get the parts, just how it is. Tell you an odd one - there are two dealers near me, they are sister stores (same name, just different cities about an hour away from each other) One wasa Buell dealer, the other was not. One can order parts, the other cant. Its odd. Whatever. Just call another dealer |

You should be able to go into any HD dealer and order Buell parts. Just like you can go into a Chevy dealer and order parts for a Pontiac. |

Gater, Call Grove's Winchester HD, and they will order one for you. Was at both dealerships yesterday. At the dealership you mentioned....you will just need to give them a HD part number. I have told this story before, but went in there once for spark plugs and made the mistake of telling them I rode a Buell....finally was able to convince them they had the plugs in stock. When at last they checked, I was informed that they were V-Rod plugs. They sold them to me. Bottom line is they aren't like car dealerships. If they aren't a Buell dealership, they won't be able to help you. I don't understand their business model..but hey, that's the way it is. And that dealership is really not that bad. If you need help, let me know. |

I wonder if the Buell cable or any Buell parts for that matter can be cross referenced to a HD part number? |

The tube frame bikes lots of engine parts fact is up till year 2000 they used the H-D part system. XB's I don't know but I think not so much. |

I believe (may be wrong) that all Buell part numbers now show as HD numbers. I have dealt many times with Winchester's parts department....always a good experience. Have them run a check for you. |

The owner at Patriot at one time owned a XB12R. It was red and it had the Buell race exhaust and was converted to chain drive. They were going to sell it to me for $5K minus all the goodies. I didn't like the riding position. I told them no thanks. |

Guys; here in Brazil there's no way to order Buell parts in any HD dealer! We need to use a friend in US! The largest Buell market outside US is here!! WTF! Sorry... Ed |

I ran into that looking for O-rings, which I ended up ordering from American Sport Bike. Ironically the BMW dealership I was at earlier in the day said they could order them, but it could take a while. The H-D dealer closer to my house (which I figured at the time could get them quicker) can't even order them. |

That wont work for 90% of the parts on the XB. Spark plugs, some fasteners, and some other generic parts have Harley part numbers, but 90% of the bike has Buell part numbers, and if you gave them the Buell part number they won't be able to order it. Harley dealers have never been able to order Buell parts unless they are a Buell dealer. There are special agreements that the dealers had to make to become a Buell dealer, and since most dealers didn't want to deal with sportbikes they can't take the easy route and sell parts and warranty service for easy profit when it is convenient. If you broke down in front of a HD dealer, I am sure they will help you however they can, but they won't have the right clutch cable, and even if they had one that worked it wouldn't be possible for them to cover it under warranty. Same for if you broke down in front of an independent powersports shop. |

Sorry, I didn't mean to add confusion to this thread, and obviously I have. Froggy is correct, of course. What I must have left out is that Grove's is a Buell dealer....and a very good one at that...I would expect to see their service manager racing a Buell at Summit Point this weekend. |

This past Wed. nite I called my local H-D dealer, gave them a p# for the buell speedo sensor, they had it in stock for $54.95. I then gave them the '02 shifter ## and 'I ain't got that one, but I can get it for you' and quoted me the list price. Surdyke.com had it for $23 less online but they're telling me they can't get it. Both dealerships are in Missouri. |

I wonder how hard will it be to get parts for Buell's 10 years from now? |

I am new to the area and called Patriot H-D about a gasket set for my S3. I even had the part number. The young Man in Parts proclaimed that he could not help me and that they only sold H-D parts. I countered with an S3 is very close to an XLH and perhaps he could look up the part number as I had purchased this bike at a Genuine Harley Davidson dealer. He told me I should have bought a Harley instead of a wannabe sport bike. I know we are orphans, I just didn't expect to be run out of town so fast. I am 11 miles from Patriot H-D, I'll buy my next bike elsewhere and be smug in the knowledge that they won't even miss my business and they will prosper in spite of me. Ahh Well...The boys at Whitt's H-D in Manassas were very helpful. Parts on the way. |

What Froggy said is correct: "If you broke down in front of a HD dealer, I am sure they will help you however they can, but they won't have the right clutch cable, and even if they had one that worked it wouldn't be possible for them to cover it under warranty. Same for if you broke down in front of an independent powersports shop." I was down in Bristol VA when my Base gaskets started to leak and my rear tire had crumbled. I pulled up to Black Wolf H-D at 1pm and proclaimed I needed some help. The service writer stated he could not help me as they only work on Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He advised me to travel to Murfreesboro Tennessee (the nearest Buell Dealer) for service. I asked if maybe the service manager could get involved and he was super cool. He said a Tube frame is a hot rod XLH and he would be happy to do all he could for me. The tech was excited to look at something different and in the end I purchased a tire, new wheel bearings and they did what they could about my seeping base gaskets. Good Dealerships are out there, along with bad employees, sometimes they just need assistance in reaching their inner Buell. |

if Patriot isn't currently an H-D-approved Buell dealer, then bugging them's the worst waste of time.... if they are, then BURY them in emails! |

Groves is a Buell dealer, still work on them, and will support them. I used to work there and still know them well! Just ask for Jeff, as Black said. The General Manager is Jake, great people. |
