Just wondering, anyone know if the Erik Buell Racing race ECM marries the first Instrument Cluster it connects to, similar in fashion to the stock ECM/IC programming that came from Buell? Thanks. -Kevin |

Yes it does. Although why didn't you ask them? I could be just another web surfing moron. Well I am, I guess. |

Many have sold used ECMs in the classifieds. Never seen a complaint/issue. If it does marry, divorce must be ok. Or maybe it's a gay marriage: only good in certain states. When the ECM is sold and crosses state lines the marriage means nothing and the ECM is free to cheat on its original IC. ac (Message edited by avc8130 on July 11, 2011) |

I haven't asked EB-R because they seem pretty busy with more important matters. Thanks for the replies. |

>>>I haven't asked EB-R because they seem pretty busy with more important matters. You could practice. Start with a MEANINGFUL subject line. Open the body with your COMPLETE (phone #, best time to call, e-mail and mailing address) CONTACT INFORMATION. Describe the ENVIRONMENT - What bike do you have, year, model and any mods. Then ASK YOUR QUESTION. Close by stating IF YOU NEED an answer. (this distinguishes a comment from a question) Try it . . . you'll be surprised. Asking on the internet, unless you're just wanting the banter and discussion, is a real shot in the dark. |

No it does not, I have fitted my race ECM into other 1125's without a problem. |

It does marry, but you can swap them to other bikes without issue. |

"Marry" implies that it locks to the other module. ECMs don't "marry" but the ICs do. You can swap ECMs and the new one will take the info from the IC when it initializes. A new IC will bond/marry to the existing ECM and will not accept another ECM's info after the 30 minute countdown at first install. I'm pretty sure this is right, it's the way I understand it anyway. I have 2 ECMs that I swap in/out with no issues, but only one IC... Z (Message edited by zac4mac on July 12, 2011) |

Zac, That is about as far as we know so far. The topic has come up many times, but no one seems to have the guts to try an IC swap. I have 2 ICs, but I also have 2 bikes. If the IC wasn't SO expensive I would just try it. I am scared that it will "lock" something up and I will be out a ~$300 IC. I know you have access to factory info through your dealership. I have a feeling that info isn't 100% helpful as it probably only includes details on how to install a NEW IC to an existing bike...nothing about USED, right? ac |
