Petereid- I agree. I have read alot about your area, and follow the news as close as I can. Sparropie- I look forward to it as well. Let me know what you think of the ECM, I have been thinking about going that route as well. Redbuelljunkie- Valid questions, and intelligently put together. It is kind of hard to explain. As far as authoritative or enforcers it is actually pretty basic, and not quite how you see it. Some clubs have been in certain areas for a long time. So they have a lot of pride in their region. So normally the club that has been in the area the longest gets the most respect, and other clubs ask permission for this or that to show them respect. I can't think of an easy way to explain it. But that is the idea, respect. Things aren't discussed because for the most part most clubs don't care how other people see us. But as the times change, and LEO demonize us it gets more important to let people know what we are really about. IMHO If you met a member in person, and developed a relationship with him he would tell you more. It's not so much secrecy as it is member information. Businesses do this, LEO do this, Free Masons, Unions, etc. All clubs do things different. It is not required to be anti-social. We just prefer, given the choice, to hangout with other bikers than citizens. It makes sense, we like to associated with other people that have similar interest and understand one and other. I know that is not too clear, but hope it helps out a bit. |

Mooch- Yes, it does make things a little more clear, but with that clarity comes further questions. For example: I am a member of one of the oldest, and largest m/c clubs here in North Florida (350+ members). Naturally, there is "respect" for our club because of our combined knowledge, experience, charity work (we have donated over $120,000 to local charities in the past ten years alone), ability (we have a track day school every year), and because we are friendly, helpful and all-around good people. I am proud to be a member of this club. Now, I'm confused with your definition of "respect". There are many, many other clubs in our area, and neither we, nor any of the other clubs, have asked "permission" of one another to do anything. The roads are public, none of us make or enforce laws, "respect" is automatically given to others in the form of friendliness, giving help when needed, sharing knowledge, and any other form that's appropriate. If an individual were to behave in a manner that would make another have less "respect" for them, then one may choose to not ride with, associate with, or have personal contact with said individual. There is mutual respect of all the m/c clubs, LEO's, and everyone gets along great. So, I am left wondering, given your vague description of "permission", "respect", and LEO "demonization", if things are different in the example you are providing? Can you expound on this? |

i got a question(s). there are some here that seem to be "well-informed," i.e., members of MC's. my question(s) is: is there a RC (riding club) version of the MC. i was told if i start a "Riding Club" that i would not "have to pay respects to the RED&GOLD. however new MC do. it was being explained to me by a member, but i was too f'ed up to remember. This will be the last thing I say in this thread because I've obviously hurt some really rough and tumble feelers here.

Are you a defense attorney by any chance? That's the exact same thing drug dealers, cartels, mafias and gangs do. Power in numbers lets otherwise weak or insecure people feel strong. Have a good night guys. And if I may make a suggestion. Instead of riding your 1125's with a bunch of Harleys and cruisers, get those bikes on the track where they're supposed to be |

Redbuelljunkie- I really can't expound anymore you seem to have hit the nail on the head. our club also does not ask permission for things. sounds like you have a great club out there. Kickstand76- Find a local and ask him again. Im sure he will fill you in. and Run_luning- ha ha ha that shit cracked me up. "burn rubber, not your soul" ha ha ha |

And if I may make a suggestion. Instead of riding your 1125's with a bunch of Harleys and cruisers, get those bikes on the track where they're supposed to be I know what you mean but I really like my 1125 on the street, spare time is something of a premium so I don't have a lot of time available for track days (which is a shame as this bike is perfect for it). I did go to a run-what-you-brung this weekend but didn't take part as I am still running the bike in (which I admit is a pretty poor excuse). Riding on the street with slower bikes can be fun too - if you do it right. For some odd reason a lot of people think that in a group you should put the slower riders at the back which is odd when you come to think about it.. Personally I hang at the back and use the extra overtaking ability to allow me to keep in contact with the group and marshal any straglers. |

Ok I lied. I'm gonna post again. Jules: I was semi-joking. I ride my 1125R every day and it's fun no matter what I'm doing. It's a lot of fun, like you said, being one of the "slow" riders. People just don't seem to get how fast these bikes are. As for the track days, the bike truly is perfect for it. The only things I've done, other than adding safety stuff like sliders, is set my suspension up. The Pirellis are already a Street/Track tire and the bike handles like it's on rails. I wish I had nice roads around where I live so I could beat the hell out of it more. |

I guess I'm pretty lucky, there are some fantastic roads around here - and lets face it the UK is pretty small anyway so it's not like I'd have to travel far to find some nice twisties anyway I wish we had some mountains though - riding through the Alps and down through the Brenner Pass last year (before I bought the Buell) was fantastic and although I have a repeat trip planned that's not until September! It has to be said there are a few states I would love the opportunity to visit (and some I'd love to visit again) and Texas is one of those states. This looks like a pretty interesting site: http://www.motorcycleroads.us/states/tx.html So far I've managed to spend time in Nebraska, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Florida and loved every minute of it. Texas is high on my "to do" list. |

Jules, if/when you make it to TX, you'll want to visit the Hill Country and do the 3 Sisters (RR335, RR336, & RR337). Here's another good site to check out: http://www.hillcountrycruising.com/the3s.html |

Jules, I lived in the Hill Country area for a while. Some of the best riding in the US is down there. Try to block out a few days as you'll need them to fully ride this area. The Devil's Backbone is a great run. Not long, but gives some great views. The Canyon Lake area has some great roads as well. And if you've gone that far, might as well go another 8-10 hours and check out Big Bend by way of San Antonio, Del Rio, Sanderson and Marathon. Piedras Negras is pretty safe if you want to cross over for some good Mexican food. I miss riding Texas. (Message edited by hogzilla on April 06, 2010) |

Thanks Guys - that really does make me want to get my arse in gear and get over there again sometime soon. Hopefully I can find somewhere that I can rent something other than a BMW or a Harley next time, a Buell would be good (if unlikely ) LOL If anyone finds themselves coming to this side of the pond anytime drop me a PM, I can give you some info on good places to visit and take you for a beer or two. |

Jules, Have you thought about putting together a ride to the Isle of Mann TT races? This years race is on 29 May - 11 June. I can't make it, but I wish I could. http://www.iomtt.com/ FYI-If you make it to Italy this year shoot me an e-mail. Maybe I can take you on a run through the mountains here. This goes for anybody. |

We may end up just heading to Garmisch and staying on the American Military base there, the "Edelweiss Lodge" hotel on base was awesome when we stopped off there last year. You guys(the Americans amongst you) are so fortunate that your veterans are reasonably well taken care of) the UK could learn a lot from you! |

That's a hell of a day out. Doable, but damn... Yeah, Houston does suck. Been there many, many times. Hot, humid, smelly... did I mention hot. The closest comparison to it in our area is Gary Indiana. Yikes. The ability to make it to the Hill Country in a half day almost makes it tolerable. I do miss it a lot. And the BBQ, dear God, the BBQ... Ok, homesick again. |
