Most of us have been Buell owners for a long time and we seem to have discussed nearly every possible topic for the XB ad nauseam, right? So with all the knowledge we have and with new people still buying XBs, I thought it might be fun to start a topic or parts and/or products you consider to be a must-have for any Buell XB.

So what is it? I would imagine exhaust, ECM, air filter, seats and bar end mirrors are up there, but what brands do people prefer? Also, would you consider suspension mods or steering stabilizers, perhaps different tires as must haves?

Just curious to see what everyone thinks and if it is line with my thoughts.

I would say the MUST haves are:

1.) Tuono mirrors

2.) non-Dunlop tires

3.) whatever headlight mod floats your boat, so long as you can get some more light

4.) the crankcase breather reroute

5.) ECMSpy cable

I would say the MUST haves are:

1.) Tuono mirrors = opinion really

2.) non-Dunlop tires = fact

3.) whatever headlight mod floats your boat, so long as you can get some more light = not a must

4.) the crankcase breather reroute = not really needed bike runs fine without.

5.) ECMSpy cable = not needed as well.

~SM

This thread can actually turn out to be a personal mods list of there own bikes.

ecmspy cable. Not necessarily to do tuning, but it's priceless when doing tps resets and checking codes.

Proper riding gear.

Proper air pressure.

A few trackdays under your belt! What more do you need?

Tires

Suspension - properly setup and adjusted. If willing to spend a little, re-springing and re-valving at least. Make adjustments to suit. Racing suspension - cartridges and a racing shock.

NOTEBOOK - to record suspension settings and tire pressures and conditions.

If you're messing with engine before you have the MOTORCYCLE dialled in, you're wasting time and money... unless you're comparing notes at Starbucks instead of RIDING.

Handling makes you QUICKER, while horsepower only makes you FASTER.

Steve,

Even though my bike is a custom. ECM spy, breather reroute and such doesn't make my bike any less then the guys that have done it. Dyno sheets have shown that. But if you want to make your Buell experience better the things you have mentioned are what it takes to do it. I think you saved the thread.

Yea...per Slaughter.

When I bought my 04, XB12R used...the owner had all that "stuff" bolted on.

1. The race ECM
2. The Jardine Titanium exhaust
3. The K&N filter.

1. Well..he removed the muffler...too loud
2. The race ECM...he didn't reset the TPS to suit.
3. The K&N filter...when he/whom ever installed it...they crushed the smaller radiused end so that it didn't even seal on the air box lid..!
4. The suspension "wasn't" adjusted for anyone in particular. The guy is about 6'5", about 250lbs....the suspension was adjusted for someone about 150lbs.
5. AND...the tires were were so low in pressure...for so long, that the front was worn into a "W" cross section...!

New tires, replaced the ill-fitting K&N with the stock filter, reset the TPS, readjusted the fuel and timing maps, after a little trial and error, the suspension is set much closer to where it should be for my weight, 250lbs...about the same as the guy I bought it from..!

The thing is actually fun to drive.

But...now that my 1125 is running well...the XB sits more than it's on the road.

Im gonna have to go with the only thing you really need is gas, and the mindset that you are riding a v-twin, not an inline 4. The rest, is all personal taste.

Right side air scoop. Buell finally started putting them on wich is an admission that they do work. The Buell part is way cheaper than the aftermarket as well.

Okay, aside from ATGATT, and fuel, and properly inflated tires, and riding philosophy, I was hoping people would chime in with more of the upgrades they consider mandatory for the new XB owner.

In no particular order some of mine are:

Exhaust/Intake/ECU
Bar end mirrors
Seat
Traction grips
Firebolt pegs on a Lightining
