Start it up, put on my gear, and go easy the first couple of miles being sure not to lug it but keeping the rpm under 3K. My wife thinks I am crazy, but the bike tells me when it is warmed up and ready to run. |

Sleez's plan has always worked for me. In essence, start the bike, put on helmet, check for gear & pockets ship shape, check bottom fin temp & put on gloves. Of course, that plan might change a little with an 1125R. |

Can't speak for any other models but my 2003 XB9SL will "Walk off the kickstand" unless pointed uphill or blocked. My warmup is always while seated on the bike, gear on, ready to ride in intense mental preparation---awh who'm I kidden. I'm daydreaming about which way to go when I hit the hardroad. Ride gently waiting for engine and tires to warm up. |

Yea, 1 or 2 mins on the stand, and then nice an easy for a couple miles. It really has nothing to do with the bike its just how all engines should be warmed up. even in my 03 dakota, I fire it up, put on seat belt get comfortable, check make sure I did not forget anything, maybe clean the windsheild, in all about 30seconds and again very easy on the truck for a couple miles. Think about it, would you want to woken up by your alarm clock and hustled out the door and then run to work. |

not all engines require the same warm up, think about the cylinder sleeves inside the aluminum cooling fins. way different than many engines, if the cylinder is not up to temp, the sleeve can move around a bit. may be something to all these base gasket leaks???? i've never had one!!! then again it may all be smoke and mirrors, choose your poison!! i chose mine!! then again, i use olive oil in the crankcase too!!!! lol and socks for muffler packing!!!! and retread tires.... and.... |
