I'll throw in my offer of hospitality as well. Beer, BBQ, garage, tools, a variety of old school spares, your own bedroom.

If you're not coming into NYC (wouldn't blame you ...), but come within striking distance, maybe we can meet up somewhere along the way. Dinner's on me.

Dan -- if you can manage a ride from BadS1's place to mine (about 30 minutes!) you're welcome here -- mid-way between Chicago and Milwaukee, garage space, tools, truck, bed, beer and 4 or five dealers within about 30 minutes

Dan, I've got you covered if you ride through the Atlanta Metro - North Georgia area.
Thanks for protecting my freedom, the very least I could do is offer you a a drink or two, a good meal, a tank of gas, and nights rest.

Hold on to it, I may come get it.

I got invited to lunch in CA and I have "somebody else's motorcycle".

Therein, in my eyes, lies opportunity.

Now you have two places to park here in Minnesota if you choose!

Okay,
It is sounding like the places to crash should be well taken care of. With all the meals being offered as well I don't see a need for any other monetary needs. Now I have to decide a time frame. I might have 20 days off during Homecoming also so I could make a big loop from Texas to WI then back in that 20 days. Or I could do it in July after I retire if I don't have a new job lined up.

As far as the loaner XB bike request. Does the majority of the board think thats an unreasonable thing? I am trying to get brand recognition out there. I really don't think a 10 year old S2 is really going to help sell XBs do you?

Okay, stupid idea #1 here.
See if a dealer on the list can get a CityX at cost (even perhaps an ex 'demo' bike). See how many on the list would agree to 'sponsor' the bike. Divide the cost of the bike by the # of 'sponsors'. Take up the collection. Do the ride and go to meet as many Badwebers as possible. Each BW'er autographs the bike. When the ride's over there's a 'drawing' from among the 'sponsors' for the bike.

Dan,
Let me ask you a question, an honest question:
Do you believe Buell, as a company, has a plan in place to market and sell Buells?

Trust me, any exposure of Buells, especially in out of the way places, is good exposure.

Out in Washington state in Hoodsport a guy was looking at my M2 and said he'd never seen a Buell before. Up above you have Rek who owns a Buell and has apparently never met another Buell owner in person. Here in Milwaukee a few summers ago a local motorcyclist bike owner stated that he thought Buell was out of business, and I believe he said he had friends who worked at the Capitol drive engine assembly plant.

Trust me, when the gentleman from just south a bit shows up on his "older" Buell RSS wearing his well worn leathers and his little filet knife dangling from his belt, he does more for promoting the Buell line than he would if he were riding an XB. But then that's just my opinion on the matter.

Go out to your garage, sit down on a milkcrate in front of all of your bikes, close your eyes and imagine you are half-way through your ride, then open your eyes and pick out the bike you were on in your mind. There is your answer.

Have a good ride.

However if 175 of us each donated $50 each that would cover the cost+ of the basic bike at MSRP. If there was then a drawing and the lucky person paid $1 to purchase the bike it sure would cut out all kinds of problems. If you do it I'm in.

Why do MSRP? Dave has some he's selling at real good prices. No CityX, but an XB12S would be cool.

2004 XB12S used,2100 miles bought it from the factory, red, warranty thru 6/05
7995.00

I can probably do better than MSRP on a new bike down here in Texas due to some connections I have with the MSF stuff. If we wouldn't raise enough then I could buy what we could with as much as we raised?

A Blast with a windshield would be more comfortable that an XB12S for a cross country ride. Use less gas too!

What about contacting whoever runs the rolling Buell demo fleet? You could be a "traveling demo" then return the bike to the fleet when done?

Just a thought...

I'd be up for putting in for a raffle kinda thing.

Dan,
Will offer the standard Fuel, Food and Fun. Depending on when you go I'll either be in Ogden Utah or Spokane Washington. I dont have much as far as tools but will do what I can.

Blake,

I didn't see where he solicited funds? That was suggested by a member of the board. I think a trip in the spirit of furthering Buell is a good idea. He's just passionate about the brand as is clear.

Easiest way to avoid any appearance of impropriety, insure you have the most fun, don't get treated like a puppet on a string from HD and avoid the risk of someone wanting their money back cause you turned left in Boise, rather than right is simply plan and fund it yourself.

That's what I did, including the Lap of America t-shirts I carried and gave away along the way. I also did a radio call in "on the road with Buell" show 3 days a week at 10:00AM.

The other thing is that a factory "giving, loaning or anything" a bike to someone provides almost nothing worthwhile, while at the same time opening up TONS of risks.

I say this based on having done and been involved with no less than 6 such efforts. The best outcome HD (by the way, marketing has little to do with the Buell folks we are talking about here...I used to deal with an ad agency and had a contact rep with one in Chicago and on in Buffalo when I did the photos for Dunlop Tire ads) can hope for is "no disaster".

To make this the most effective it can be, and I think it's a killer idea, there is nothing like being know as "this crazy guy is so taken with this bike he just up and did it". Gets tons more publicity and more effective publicity.

Just some thoughts...

Now on the other hand, if a dealer wanted to take on providing the bike and any support......

I'm in for gas, food, lodging and as good a time as you want in New York City.....offer stands...dumpster of your choice.

: )

Would be cool if you could fit Homecoming into your schedule, as quite a few who you probly wouldn't get to meet otherwise will likely be there, self included.

As for a bike, the risk you run with a dealer/factory bike is you're no longer your own man & have to jump to their tune, which can sour things pretty quickly when a conflict of interest arises.
If you've got 6 bikes I say take one of your own, for the sake of your independence, there's enough support on this board to see you through.
I'm up for the raffle idea too though, if you go that way.

I think I will just do a ride on my own bike, on my own terms. I would love to do something to help spread the Buell name but it sounds like just too much of a hassle.

As for all the offers for hospitality and lodging I definately would like to take some of you up on those offers. Now I just have to start figuring out when and where I will go.

I was considering riding to Deal's Gap (BADWEB NC,TN,WI Tour) via Houston - maybe I'll see you on the way.
There is bed and board here for any Bueller (no matter WHAT you ride) and mechanical services if I'm in town (ask Newfie).
