I am going to be retiring from the army in Mid July and I have about 80 days of paid vacation before I have to start working again. I am thinking about doing a ride around the country.

Would any of the sponsors of this board be willing to contribute a XB(CityX perhaps) for me to ride around America using Courts old route? I heard that Woz and Viks wife now have a weekly radio show devoted to motorcycles so I could probably get airtime.

Would there be enough homes available for me to crash each night?

You can crash on my couch, as the guest bedroom has been turned into a office.
I'll also throw in dinner, beer, (if that's your thing) and $20 bucks for gas.
Also what ever service you need.

(that is if you come anywhere close to Detroit LOL

You are welcome to stay at our house again. I don't even need any warning that you are coming (thanks Dave!). Good excuse to order taco pizza!

Here's a thought:
Many people have said they came for the bikes but stayed for the people.
With that in mind, maybe print out the current RAN page, plot out the locations of helping/listed Badwebbers, and see how many you can see in one trip. Could be an overnight stop, or simply a handshake along the way, or a gas stop, or lunch, or dinner. If several in a region are listed maybe they could all gather at a mutual meeting point. See how many you could meet on one trip.

This might be nice for those who are way out of the normal routes like upper MT to get a change to meet you and likewise you them. Also would be a chance for folks to ride part way with you and meet up with others as well.

Anyway, just a thought. Instead of doing what's been done, do something different.

Mike,
Good ideas but I don't want to get too far off the beaten path, especially considering the size of an XBs fuel tank!

BTW,
I can do this on my S2 but that wouldn't help sell new Buells would it??

And I think you should do this on the RSS, or the RS if your wife rides along with you.

===
edit,
if it goes to show that an older Buell can do it reliably then it should also show that the new and improved Buells could do the same.

Just my thoughts on it is all.

Dan, you own 6 Buells! Why do you need to borrow another one?

Just pull an arrow out of your quiver and shoot it into the air!

Sorry but I can't loan you a bike to go out and put many thousand miles on.
Let me see if there are other alternatives.

Buelliedan,

Should everything bike related fall apart on you anywhere near minneapolis, MN; I can pick up and deliver you to dealer as I am 100 miles west of there. Will contribute lodging, gas money and meals. If the Buell thing doesn't pan out I have a BMW K1200RS you can borrow

I will be unavailable during Bonneville Speedweek August 13th thru 19th. Plan on stopping by the "Great White Dyno" in the west during your travels. We hope to get my S2 to 160mph this year.

Thanks for all you guys do for us.

Paul

There's 4 bikes in the garage right now, but I know I'd be in trouble if I gave you the keys! I can offer a place to stay, food and the company of two rabid house dogs.

Maybe Buell MoCo could help arrange a loaner as this would be great advertising wouldn't it?

Dan,
If you're dead set on doing it, why not pick up a charity to do the trip for? I did the same thing with the Ride Across North America, raised $4200 for the American Cancer Society and had an awesome time in the process. I can tell you that it was an expensive trip, but worth every penny. Spending a month onboard a Buell is a truly unforgettable and moving thing to do.

If I hadn't started my new job all of three days ago, I'd start planning to make the trip with you.

You've got lodging and a riding partner around Dubuque, Iowa and the surrounding areas.
Good luck!
Alex

Well,
since I will be a retiring Veteran if it was going to be charitable I would want it to be for the men and women who are serving or have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dave,
If you are talking to some Buell MOCo folks let them know a few facts about me:
I am a retiring from the active Army after having served 20 years.
I also am an MSF certified instructor so I would try to get them involved as well.

If you're going to be in the Bay Area, let us know. I have not see the route. Could get together when you roll through, and ride with you for the day. If you're in the area for the night, and cannot find a place, let me know.

I have a copy of the route that I rode in 1995. IT was cool putting the first Buell in so many incredible enviroments and riding venues.

I'd suggest Road Things advise....take one of your own. My bet is that Buell, HD or any manufacftuer would run like the dickens, or at least they have in the past. These types of thinks offer about 24 "down sides" for every potential long shot. That's just my opinion based on the 5 I've been previsouly invovled with.

In addition, doing it on your own free you to ride where you want to ride, when you want to ride.

It would be the time of your life. I wandered 37 states on a Buell for 31 days, meeting hundreds of folks. I carried cases of BUELL...Lap of America t-shirts (I bought and paid for those as well) which I gave away when I gave "demo" rides....what a hoot.

I still recall riding up to Mother's at Mt. Palomar and the amazement of the locals when we simply popped the bags off the S2 and took turns dashing up Canfield Drive to the observatory.

You are going to have a Ball!

I'll try to scare up and post a copy of the map.

Court

Dan, you're welcome to overnight here (Lake Isabella, CA, 45 miles NE of Bakersfield, approx. three hours north of LA) if your journey brings you thru this area. guest room, garage & tools, beverage of choice, BBQ, and twisty roads in every direction. have fun, be safe, keep a journal, take lot of pix, take your time, ride to lean.

Yowser, a Bueller actually plans to hit the Big Sky state? Let me know when where why how and I'll be there. (I never met a real live Bueller before)

Truthfully though I logged 6,000 (+) miles around the state last year and know some of the better routes, etc.

And of course you're welcome the beer, bed and BS.

Rob (so excited by the prospect of meeting a Buell rider I almost wet my pants)
