Same set up at the Long Beach show too. The cage made me mad that I couldn't get a cleaner shot of the bike.

1200 Sporty would go for at least $10K. What got me excited about the original picture posted was the V-Rod engine!

RT...Nice collection of Triumph's. Would be elated to own any of them, but the last two are my favorites. Just something about the bobber (#3) that stirs my soul.

I love the pipes on the street tracker Triumph.
I could see putting the Tracker in the cage, as it was probably one of a kind, but the Speed Triple is a production model.
I like this latest "Retro" trend, seems things are turning more towards the 60's and 70's rather than the 50's.

Ain't they purty? I wish any of them were mine, they're just pictures I snatched off the net. Maybe I'll build one out of my '66 Bonny.

Yeah, sure. As soon as I paint the S2 and the Commando, then restore the shovelhead, paint the house, build a shed over the well at the ranchito, find a cure for cancer and bring peace to the middle east!

But, damn, they're sure purty!

Glitch...The funny thing is to you it is retro as the art deco era would be. To a lot of us, it is just a flashback to our Teens and Twenties. LOL

Flashback is right. I know I've posted this before, but here's a young, skinny road_thing with his "tracker" circa 1971:

RT...Hope your sense of humor is functioning this morning, but that pic always reminded me of a fellow that played in some of the 1970's cops'n'robbers TV shows and movies.

Perhaps even one of those Bruce Dern MC Flicks, eh?

Wow, those trackers are so beautiful. For the life of me, I'll never understand why a manufacturer that was heavily involved in flattrack racing (Harley, Yamaha, Triumph, even Honda) never capitalized on their racing heritage and released a decent replica.

Honda did make an attempt at it with the Ascot bikes. But it wasn't a whole hearted attempt. The VT Ascot was (IIRC) a 500cc twin with a shaft drive. They also made a single, but I don't remember the designation for that one. Somehow, I can't see a shaft drive tracker......

DJ...That's the concept, and now that the specialty aftermarket is picking up on it, it appears that perhaps HDI may be thinking along those lines.

An ironic twist is that those dirt trackers were also the stunt bikes of the day and play well into the hands of today's hooligan's. Granted they would greatly benefit from the better engine, fork and brake technology we currently have.

Those Triumph's were also the off road racers and desert sleds of their day. Back when Scrambles gradually turned into a soft version of Motocross. Harley's, Triumph's, BSA's and a few more brands ruled the day. In turn, they paved the way for the "Scrambler" models that Honda and Yamaha sold in the 1960's which were pretty much the forerunner's to the Dual Purpose bike market.

Concerning HDI, the Blast and Sportster would make excellent platforms for street trackers. The V-Rod would make a Super Street Tracker for those of us that want the retro look with a big bore engine.

I believe the only area I am overlooking is the potential of making a street tracker from an XB platform. It is entirely possible and my oversight would be a result of the XB's perimeter frame. Historically, tracker's are tubers and for some reason the XB just doesn't seem right. However, the rigidity of the perimeter frame just may be the performance answer to the question that was never asked. Wow, would that open up some styling opportunities, eh?

I never considered the V-Rod based model to be a competitive entry on the dirt, but the look would sell against the sporting mid/rear peg Muscle Cruisers that seem to be evolving. Then again, HDI could surprise us. The V-Rod Super Street Tracker is what I want, but the younger market may prefer the more competitive Blast and Sportster based models. Now, the real surprise would be a family of three street trackers from HDI.

Looks like this will be one long weekend waiting for the HDI's potential announcement. If this just turns out to be a rumor, I think I will send my bill for next weeks antidepressant medication to Jose Quinones. Then again, I will owe him credit for the excitement he provided me with this week as it was a natural substitute for the Viagra! LOL

Pete's selling his Blast racer and will convert it to street for the buyer (lights and front brake). If interested let me know and I'll get you in contact with him.

Bill, I know how you feel.

When I decided to get my Vrod, I knew something was in the works, I just did not know when it would be released. I thought it would be at least one more year (an 06 model) so I decided to get the used 03 that I bought and customize it.

So I'm glad this bike is apparently finally coming out, but kind of bummed that I bought a crusier and am trying to turn it into a sport cruiser when I could have waited a bit longer and had HD do it for me.

But I'm keeping my Vrod. If I buy this new bike, it will replace both my S3T & SV650.

According to the rumours, there is a new VROD model to be unveiled this weekend at the Winter Dealer Show.

The following details were posted this morning on vrodforums.com

quote:

I have seen it in person. Hers's a list of the changes:

USD forks, look to be 54mm (non-adj)
dual brembo front disks 320mm?
rear set controls (not quite sportbike)
5 gal gas tank
30 degree rake
higher exhaust
17-18'' wheels (cast spokes)
flatter handlebar
smaller radiator shroud
taller shocks (very similar to progressive 418s)

That's about all I can recall. Aside from these changes the bike was the same, including engine displacement. Think Booneville to Thruxton changes.

This bike is not meant for the US market specifically, it's meant for Europe.

According to HD's new earnings release, HD's European sales went down 5 percent in 2004, so they will lower the prices on certain models to recoup some market share.

This bike is another step to help them regain market share in Europe. That's why I think it will be released mid year instead of waiting till August.

If the details posted above are correct, converting my Vrod to the new one should not be that hard, other than the 30 degree rake, I would have to modify the frame to do that.

I'd wager that's not the only market.

If they build a naked Harley standard, especially with a VROD class engine, and price it around $15k, even in America I think they will be staggered by the rush of people to the bike.
