You have to get an EXIF thumbnail embedded in your profile pic, and then it will automatically show up by your posts. Glitch and I noticed that both Darthene and Trojan did it, and worked pretty hard to figure out how and why. Most excellent geek bait! It has to be a feature of the BBS software, but we had no inside knowledge of it... we just figured it out from evidence at hand. I don't think Blake knows yet, so we may be in trouble when he comes back, but it's fun so far  I think Macs can do it direct from the OS. Photoshop (newer versions) do this automatically, but they will get stripped out of you optimize last. I used a free tool called Photo Studio at http://www.stuffware.co.uk/ to manually construct / insert them. Some weirdness happens, I was originally to insert completely different thumbnails from my picture and merge the two, and it worked for a few minutes, then reverted to a thumbnail of my profile pic. Don't know for sure all the details of what is happening, could be a caching issue that will just go away. Make your thumbnail 50 x 50 pixels or less. It will be dropped in a box that size. | ||

I resized my profile picture to 50x50 pixels in a way to make it look at its best. I then uploaded it to the board and voila, a pretty good looking avatar. without being picky, 100x100 would be nicer | ||

Ahh...well, maybe the Mac thing has something to do with it, cause my profile pic definitely wasn't 50x50 - but I did add it using my iBook. I like it! Did the BBS software get updated recently? I think your profile pic is small enough for the backend to resize etc, but I would expect it to look better if you would manually resize it (without the white pixel noise you see in your avatar). I can give it a shot if you can't or don't know how and email it to ya. |
