Good critique Ray. Except for the sprinting comment. All the top predators are great sprinters. Prey run distance. |

NBC's coverage bites! I'm all for being Ethnocentrist, but when I'm watching a track and field event and the announcers are focusing all of their attention on the lone American 2nd from last in the back of the pack, that's going a little too far. They announced the winner from the Bahamas as if it was an afterthought. It's an international competition, I'd like to hear about the people winning the events, even if they are heaven forbid! Non-American. |

Lithuania just beat the USA basketball team. Team USA is now 2-2 in basketball, losing to Puerto Rico and Lithuania. I guess maybe I am an internationalist; I found myself routing for the Lithuanians who with a few minutes to play staged a great run to pull ahead and stay there. Saw a tribute to and interview with Billy Mills yesterday. Really powerful and intriguing story. One other observation... I would drown if I had to play water polo. Brutal physical action, head butts, elbows to the face, pushing, shoving, dunking and a LOT of under the waterline punching and kicking. Amazing athletes. Why isn't it called "water soccer" or "water hockey"? Or are the horses just on temporary leave? |

Gee Patrick, I've seen plenty of profiles on foreign athletes. Did you see the 44 year old sprinter from Jamaica who is running for... I think it is Romania. This is her sixth olympics I think they said. I think what you saw may have been a preliminary competition. Not a big deal. What event was it? |

Blake, the former Jamaïcan woman runner you mention is Merlene Ottay. She runs now for Slovenia. Pretty amazing performances being 44 year old. Actually on the question of athlete age, I can show the french flag... Jeannie Longo is a bicycle runner who participated again to the Olympic road race last week. She is... 45 year old ! And she has the most amazing palmares within women bicycle runners : 850 (eight hundred and fifty) victories, 13 World titles, 18 times french champion, 3 victories of the woman Tour de France, one gold, two silver and one bronze medal during Olympic games. It's also her sixth olympics... By the way, she lives only 5 miles from my home. I can see her from time to time going for some miles on the mountains around. Never tried to catch her with my bicycle... Only with the Buell ! She plans to run for the next Olympics, when she'll be close to her fiftieth anniversary... Just plain amazing ! |

Thanks for reminding me about Merlene. Wow, that is amazing! I know the "Longo" name from cycling, but did not know all her history. Next time you see Jeannie Longo, tell her that a bunch of us forty-something Buell freaks and ex-jocks in America will be cheering for her. GO GEEZERS!!! |

Tell her "Ray says Hi" She'll remember me I'm sure. I worshiped her. I just know she'll remember me. Jeannie, I love you. Call me collect |

I just watched a guy lift 447LBs over his head! Not that big of a guy either, in the 85kg (187 LB)class. I had no idea. Damn. I'm a wimp. Someone hold me. |

Great, we took Silver in the Decathlon, thought someone said this wasn't an event this year. One of our guys had to drop out after injuring his foot, I believe, in the pole vault. |

Too cool sweeping the 400m. Yeah, who said the decathlon was out? Lots of events contained within the "Athletics" heading in the list of categories I posted earlier. I guess we jumped to a wrong conclusion. The current medal tally is... Decathalon is still there? I figured it was replaced by the modern pentathalon since I never ever hear about it or see it listed anymore. Good. My mistake. |
