This policy has been in effect for the past six months.

And maybe the policy itself isn't as much the problem as HOW it was handled, just like sometimes it isn't what you say but HOW you say it !!

The said employee didn't have time to listen and actually understand what the customer was asking him, caused an extra trip in another day due to communication issues, and then couldn't remember the customer the next day !!

I'd be unhappy myself !! Not at the policy if the employee treated me respectfully, took the time to listen to what I really needed, explained the situation to me in a non-condescending way, did not cause me an extra trip in for nothing !!

And if he did cause me a trip in, could at least remember talking to me the next day and say I'm sorry for the confusion !!

Don't know what happened, but that's what I got out of the story !!

Not impressed with said dealer's post, saying it's our policy without so much as a "howdy do" and/or we're sorry about the situation wish it could be different, sure nice to meet you guys here what a nice board type of thing !!

I'm confused...

Are there two qualities of Dunlap tires?

Those sold by Harley Davidson and those sold by other dealers???

You mean the ones sold by HD dealers are first quality, and the ones sold by other dealers are seconds???

I hate smoke and mirrors bullshi*. If you have a policy of only mounting what you sell... have the balls to say so!

Don't treat customers like we are stupid and say it is a liability issue. PLEASE... the quality of a Dunlap tire sold you IS THE SAME as one sold by another dealer. I could understand if it were a used tire... and not wanting to mount it due to liability worries.

Here is a suggestion for the policy sign posted in your service department.

NOTICE... WE ONLY MOUNT TIRES THAT WE SELL. IT IS OUR BUSINESS PRACTICE AND IT HAS TO TO WITH OUR CHOICE TO ONLY MOUNT WHAT WE SELL.

I respect that much more than the bull about the tires might not be of acceptable quality... PLEASE!!!!!

If what was posted was true... we all need to jump Dunlap for not giving proper notice of the quality difference of their tires distributed by other than Harley Dealers!!!

One thing to off "A" customer, but seems his post isn't helping !!

I'm guessing they have more than just "one" unhappy customer !!

In this business (any I guess), you gotta know how to relate to people !!

It always comes down to that CJ, a customer's memory is long and their voice carries far, far beyond the profit of today.

Actually I thought there were 2 grades of tires (there certainly is for the XBs and there are for the OEM Metzeler Z6s) the OEM tire with the same name is not the same as the one you get from Jim-Bob's discount tires.

THEY DIDNT PUT YOUR TIRE ON... CRY ABOUT IT. WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY WHERE EVERY ONE IS SUE HAPPY. IT IS UNFORTUNATE PEOPLE LIKE YOU TRY TO MAKE A COMPANY LOOK BAD FOR PROTECTING THIER DEALERSHIP AND THE JOBS OF THE EMPLOYEES. IF THE WHOLE THING WAS NOT HANDLED RIGHT, DISCUSS IT WITH THE OWNER INSTEAD OF HIDING BEHIND YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN. IM SURE SOMEONE AS "INTELLIGENT" AS YOURSELF HAS BETTER THINGS TO DO... BECAUSE AFTER ALL, THE ONLY REASON YOUR STILL COMPLAINING IS FOR THE SELF GRATIFICATION FROM THE OTHER MORONS THAT AGREE WITH YOU....HAVE A NICE DAY!

Thank you very much, and I assure you that I will.
I can also assure you that AmericanHD has lost business due to poor attitudes rather than policy.

The definition of what state that mind is in is subject to much discussion.

Next time you're in town let someone know.
We'll take a short ride to get some lunch.
Make sure your gas tank it topped off when you arrive.
Riding is a state of mind, limited only by personal thoughts and circumstances.

ps, if you open the visor you won't have to shout. ; )

I second that !!!

Exactly how many cases of unbalanced tire induced crashes have there been a record of?

Would be interesting to know, I've never heard of any ??

IF THE WHOLE THING WAS NOT HANDLED RIGHT, DISCUSS IT WITH THE OWNER

I'm thinking if the owner see's this thread and YOUR post and has no problem with it then he isn't someone you'd want to talk to anyway, would do no good !!

I have a little over 20,000 miles on my 99 Cyclone and a little over 35,000 miles on my 99 Thunderbolt. My longest ride came in at a little over 2000 miles in one week. So I ask you Splinter1818 how many miles are on your bikes.

I had the same trouble with a Dealer(Jap not H-D) about mounting a tire to the rim of my 78 BMW. They said they only did that for good customers. I told them that I guess that I would never be one and have never been back. I also tell anyone who happens to ask me about the place to stay away from there and buy from another dealer that has never given me any guff. I would guess they have lost a lot more revenue than they would have collected from me for mounting the tire.

Some dealers will never learn about word of mouth and the power of this website. It seems they can not take feed back well at "American HD" if they would only talk to people and not down to people they would be more successful in keeping return customers. But hey I guess we do not matter to them I reckon....

Das...well put.

The 5hit about liability & all that is just that..a big steaming pile of dog 5hit. They didnt make any money on the tire sale so they want to refuse you service to install it. There is a lot of dealership markup on tires, now I dont blame a dealer for charging more than an online store, but twice as much sometimes?? Screw that.

And to claim 2nd rate tires or blems?? No manufacturer is going to sell off possibly defective tires knowingly.

Jeff:

Thank you for weighing in. Regardless of how opinions may vary with folks agreeing or disagreeing with your policy, you are to be commended for factually coming here and stating it.

If, in fact, this "Splinter" person is associated with your outfit, you have...simultaneously, my respect and sympathy.

Blems are cosmetic and out of spec imbalance is not criteria for a blem.

Just got off my 2003 XB9S I bought in April of 2003, with that amount of time I have been able to talk about motorcycling and ride over 23,000 miles on the before mentioned bike. Guess I'm multi-talented.
