It's finally been nice enough too get my bike out. It always seems when I stop somewhere I always get asked "What do you ride?". Then I tell them "I ride a Buell". Only a few people have any idea what I'm talking about and mostly they just give me a weird look like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears. Then they tell me that they have never heard of a Buell. For the life of me I can never come up with a good description for a Buell that would do the bike justice. I was just wondering what you tell people who have no clue what a Buell is? |

My usual answer to the "What do you ride?" question is, "You've never heard of it." The little old lady at FedEx yesterday wouldn't accept that, though, and insisted on me showing her the Blast parked outside. LOL |

Take a Harley motor, get it to make some power and stick it in a modern chassis and that's a Buell. I get funny looks before, during and after that description but it's probably due to my appearance. |

Depending on who I was talking too, I used to say I rode either a Harley or a Ducati. I figure Buell's are on a need to know basis. |

I say "Buell.' They say, "what?" I say, "Hot-rodded Sportster engine in a real motorcycle that does all that good motorcycle stuff like accelerate, handle and stop." They say, "Oh, a Harley." (anything with two wheels and an engine is a Harley round here) I say "Nope, I'm not old enought for two-wheeled Buick yet."

"What's that?" "A Buell" (pointing to the airbox cover) "Who makes it?" "Erik Buell" "Is it Italian?" "Only the frame." (pointing to the airbox cover) "The engine is Harley and the suspension is Japanese." "Do a wheelie when you leave OK?" |

Q "What's a Buell?" AQ "Ya know what a Ducati is?" AQA "Yeah." A "Well, think of it as an American Ducati." I don't even mention the Harley thing. It clouds things. If it's brought up then a whole other conversation ensues... -Saro |

Bomber said: I needed to be 65 to have a Harley LOL I was out shopping with the Mrs. yesterday. Looking to upgrade her riding apparel. All she could point out were the friggin' Ultra Classics. I told her we're too young to me riding a "Barcalounger" The good news is she's starting to look for bikes for herself. Now I just need to get her to take the MSF class. She's leaning towards the Blast or Bandit 600 (once she finally gets to that stage). |

So this guy walks up to my X-1 and says to his buddy, "This is one of those Buells, it's got the fuel in the frame." I say nothing. His buddy says, "Damn, it doesn't look like there is room enough" They look at gas pump and see I've just pumped 3 gallons. First guy asks me, "How much fuel does it hold?" I reply about "Oh, about 4 gallons." In unison they reply incredulously "Really?!" I say "Yep" and ride off smiling, leaving them standing there scratching their heads. When people ask me to describe a Buell, I say, "It's the bike that always makes me smile when I ride it." |

You all have it wrong. Whenever I was asked what the hell it was I was riding, I would lean over a bit & in a slightly toned down voice tell them it was an experimental HD race bike. The looks I got were hilarious. jaws would drop & the guys would hit their wives & tell em to look at the "secret Harley". |
