Honda Pacific Coast. 800 cc's, shaft drive, water cooled. Lasts forever, 50+ MPG, lots of storage. Cheap insurance. What more does one want? |

Buddy's got a PC. It's a great bike. The beauty of the Blast is if some moron hits you with an SUV and knocks it over, the plastic doesn't shatter. Don't ask how I know.... Plus, if you get tired of it a few years down the road, it makes an helacious end table! |

I usually go by DJ but yea I am real conflicted with my next purchase. It is going to be one of 4 things 1. A 68-72 El Camino 2. a 68-72 Chevelle 3. a buell xb (not sure which one maybe a used TT) 4. a street super moto |

Yep, we have plenty of morons in cages here too! My thought for a long time has been that a CityX (or XB9S) would be close to ideal - feels small and light, narrow, flexible power delivery, and some gutter jumping ability too. It was pointed out that maybe I'm just a little Buell-biased though , so I was curious on other peoples thoughts. I think a supermotard would also be great |

I had a great time with a friends Super Duke for about two weeks and the little Duke was even better in the city Blast is still cheaper and easier to replace things that get backed into in parking lots. Yep, don't ask. |

THE best commuter bike: A Kawi KZ1000p cop bike. Cheap ($2k or so) smooth, fast, lockable waterproof luggage, good weather protection, etc. Even got run-flat tires! PLUS: The seat was designed to be comfortable for 8-hour shifts, so commuting is super-comfy; they are built with funeral-escort service in mind, so they handle great at crawl speeds; they're built like an anvil; and parts are cheap and plentiful as they haven't changed since the paleolithic era. AND THE BEST PART: cagers SEE you! That Ponch&Jon silouette is fried into everyone's cerebral cortex, so people don't cut you off! And they get the hell out of the fast lane when you roll up behind them.... though I would NEVER stoop so low as to flash the pursuit lights on and off as I approach LOL..... Plus your kids will dig staging chase scenes in the driveway.....

For slower city use: a 250cc+ scooter. My old man has a Honda Reflex and it is great for getting around, and it actually fun to ride. For longer freeway commutes: +1 on the Honda PC800. The "trunk" alone makes it worth while. As for the Cityx... Since I live in a city, and own one I have to say it is NOT a good stop and go commuter. It is a little top heavy for really slow traffic, the heat from the engine gets annoying in traffic, and the worst part is it needs a lower first gear. If traffic is creeping along I have to constantly pull/slip the clutch to keep it below 10 mph. After a while of that my clutch hand gets sore. |

+1 on the Husky SM610. A fuel injected '08 or '09 is going to be my next bike purchase. 'Til then, the ol' Uly has yet to let me down on the mean streets of Chicago. I commute every day, 10 miles each way, and make the most of that time. |

I'm allowed to take any of the bikes from my dealer's demo fleet to ride. I've been finding myself taking the Duc Hypermotard for commuting more & more. I'm really liking the high upright seating, I get to see over most cars & can look the SUV & truck drivers in the eye (I can see if they see me). Being upright, I can turn my head more from side to side. They are very lightweight, corner like on a roller coaster & go like stink. The only downside I see to motards is luggage carrying capacity, but a Ventura luggage rack would solve that. 1100cc may be overkill for commuting, but adds to the "giggle factor". |

I ride my xb9r to work most days. Puts a smile on my face going thru the two sets of S curves in all of burlington county nj everyday. I use a cortech tailbag for my stuff. |

My bike for that purpose is going to be one of these:
The DR I like due to it's simplicity, reliability, and ease of maintenance. The 625 SMC is the most comfortable to me and the one I like best mechanically, and the 690 SM is a little heavy and wide but suits my intended mission best. I've done a few miles on the Ducati Hypermotard. While it is loads of fun, is comfortable and has a nice MX-inspired riding position...it is no motard by any means. My Buell handles jumps better. Don't ask me how I know The suspension is definitely set up for [smooth] street use. Supermoto's rock. Look at all the Badwebbers that have defected to Supermotojunkie. The place I work at sells Triumph, Ducati and Suzuki motorcycles. I've rode all the bikes I have an interest in, and the funnest has been the Triumph Thruxton. They are very underpowered, but definitely have the highest grin factor. With a bit more power I'm sure it'd be a riot. (Message edited by Rick_A on August 10, 2009) |

my 2 cents says dirt bike 450+ with super moto tires..... i had a dr 350 with 90/10 street tires on it and that was hands down the funnest bike to ride ever.....i think the less weight a bike is the funner it is to ride. dont forget about the xr650r |

I'm surprised. Not one person suggested a Sportster of any flavor. It that because we're sport bike people or is it because the sporty is a POS? I've thought that 1200C might make a good daily rider to and from work. Am I that far from wrong? |

Aprilia Mana 850 then, if you don't like scooters. The problem with commuting in New York is that traffic SUCKS and often creeps along at a pace so slow that even at idle your motorcycle is moving too fast. Eventually even the strongest clutch hands need a break. California has worse traffic, perhaps... but they're smart enough to ALLOW motorcycles to filter between the lines of stalled cars. New York isn't that enlightened. Oh, and unlike that ridiculous automatic contraption from Honda (the DN-01??) the Mana has a storage compartment. Having waterproof, locking storage is another plus when you commute around here.

+1, Honda PC800. I once had the first year version (pearl white) and really enjoyed it. It was surprisingly agile running Deal's Gap, great to commute with and the "trunk" was a great idea. With a topcase it was unbeatable for carrying stuff. +1, retired cop bike. Once knew a guy who attended local Bike nights with his Kaw Police Special KZ1000. Still had the look and the town's insignia where it had been in service. One day he showed up riding a new, green Beemer oilhead, beautiful bike. He said "I love the BMW, rides great- but it doesn't get the same respect on the road as my old cop bike- no one sees me anymore on the Beemer." Wanted an old cop bike ever since. There are good deals on retired HD FLHR cop bikes too- they have "the look" too. |

The only XL's I like are cafe racers, street trackers, and vintage replica's. ...and after all that work they're still a bit too heavy and a bit too long. |

Ran a 1989 1200 sporty with a bunch of screaming eagle parts so that it was a serious torque monster. did that for about 12 years. Loved it, but when it came to getting around heavy traffic, stop and go, and sometimes just stopped, it got hot and cranky. Also,I sometimes wind up on gravel roads and long, dirt, washboard and washout driveways. That made both the Sporty and the Gold Wing nightmares.
