I have just finished reading all the threads for the 2010 Blast and Book of Buell. Pathetic is the word I would use to describe most of the reactions. It seems like there are a lot of emotions over Erik Buell pushing a button to crush a Blast. It was an advertising gimmick and the fact it has been discussed so much I would say it is successful. Was anyone here in 2002? I was not on the BadWeb then but I did follow the demise of the tubers. Guess what, my resolve is even stronger. I think Blast owners, over time, will feel the same way.

I always admired the Thumper Board on this site for the way Blast owners help each other out. I think all Blast owners feel that they are Buell through and through and are saddened to see EB crush a Blast. If you can look past that and see it for what it is you will sleep better. The Blast is a tank, it is simple and it is cheap. It does not represent what Buell is, was or will be.

I support Buell, and I support what Buell does. They know a lot more about motorcycles than I do. I am thankful that Buell made the perfect bike for me in 1996. You see, most Buells have not been made for ten freaking years. They evolve and change to meet an ever demanding and expanding audience of riders. The Blast has not.

If any of you think you can do better than Buell then put up or shut up. I believe that BMC listens to customers more than any other company I have dealt with. I hope they are not listening to this crap. I hate when I see a sentence that starts “Buell should”. None of you have any idea what it takes to do what EB and his band of engineers have accomplished in 26 years.
If you ride and love your Blast then congratulations! You win! If you do not want to do businesses with BMC again because of an advertising stunt then don’t. I am betting you were thinking about that decision well before the cube. If you are basing that decision on the cube then you are an idiot.

So, we are all entitled to our opinions so here is mine. I do not care what you ride but do not lecture me about Buell and what Buell should do. You MAY call my bike a girls bike because that shows your level of understanding. Do not tell me to “Man Up” unless you are willing to do the same. I do not want a dirt bike, if I did I would buy one and not demand Buell make one for me then get all pissy when it does not show up in the lineup.

If your complaint is with the video then tell us your feelings were hurt, write a letter, do whatever you need to do but get on with your life, go ride your bike, turn a corner and have fun knowing that you are riding the perfect bike for you.

Whoever posted the email of the advertiser that was responsible for that ad you are way out of line. Moderators, I hope you deleted that.

Book of Buell; loved it. I do not think BMC needs to get your approval to publish advertising. I hope everyone realizes that it is advertising and is not a Standard Operating Procedure for how to live your life. It is aimed at people that do not ride a Buell yet. I think it is effective. I showed it to three people that ride another brand, one a Victory, one a Harley and one a Yamaha. They all liked it and they had a lot of questions about Buell afterwards, save the Harley guy. That is not empirical research by any means but it is better than whining about an advertising firms attempt to capture the meaning of Buell. They all recognized the symbolism of Buell crushing a Blast. Something many of you have failed to do.

Crushing a Blast, (that none of you own), is close to someone taking a S1 or S2 and trying to build a chopper out of it then parting it out because they figured out it was harder than it is on TV. Do I care? No, it has been going on a lot longer than the Blast has been around. It is their bike they can do what they want. It is Erik’s Blast he can crush it if he wants.

I am not on this site that much anymore for a couple of reasons. The comments on the Blast 2010 and BoB thread are among those reasons so if I offended you, email me at f_skinner@yahoo.com and do not pollute this site anymore. I will not be watching this or any other thread because I will be riding my Buell on a little 2000 mile trip starting tomorrow.

I am done here, Blake, if I am out of line please delete my account. I have had it with this sniffling 5 year old mentality of some of the people on this site.

Either you support Buell or you don’t. It seems like a lot of you don’t because they do not bow to your every need. If you rely on a company’s advertising to tell you how to ride or what to ride you may want to look to another brand of motorcycle.

Bravo Buell, keep up the great work. A company that has supported me and my discontinued Buell’s from day one.

There are people that ride Buells until they can afford something else, people that own Buells but do not know the history or care to, and then there are Buell Enthusiast.

Well said.

Along the same lines, here's a funny post on the new ad campaign from an article on the Kneeslider (http://thekneeslider.com):

I’m not really a fan of the tone of the whole new marketing campaign, but it must be one of the most successful at least that Buell has ever done.

After it first broke (Thursday?) the Buell forums erupted and haven’t stopped talking about it. I think that if I had told my wife last Thursday that her ass looked fat even she would have gotten over it by now.

I would have thought Blast owners were laid back, good natured with senses of humor and aware that they’re not riding Hayabussa’s . . . but they sure seemed to take this goofy little gimmick seriously.

That last sentence in the 2nd line really cracked me up. I wonder if it was a Badwebber?

I think some of you folks need a freakin hobby. It's a motorcycle company, for God's sake. I wish some had this kind of passion about their country. Perhaps, we wouldn't be in half the mess we are in.

Try not to "be done here" Frank. You have made some very good points and I agree. See my latest post on the other "open letter to Buell" thread. I am in agreement with you but as long as I own a Buell I will be on the greatest Buell web site around. Stick around after your trip, let us know how it went and continue to add some of your good comments. Bob

That's all fine and well but this is a motorcycle forum that pretty much revolves around a "motorcycle company".

GO RIDE!!!!!

Really? I was referring to the attitudes that float around this place. It reminds me of the union thugs that try and talk down dissenters at union meetings. I have no patience for it. I may not agree with what you say but everyone should have the right to voice their opinion.

I could care less if Buell crushed all their bikes. I have never owned a Blast nor will I ever. However, I can see the point of view of those that for whatever reason purchased a Blast and felt part of the Buell community and now feel mocked by a cheap marketing ploy and for what - to impress some squid waterhead that has a 50/50 chance of killing himself before the age of 25 on a bike he has no business riding? I guess I always saw Buell as a grownup's motorcycle. You know -serious engineering - function before form and not focused on cheap parlor tricks to sell motorcycles.

Well said Frank!

I've been away from Badweb for awhile. It's just not as much fun for me as it once was. I don't know shit about the XB models except that I'm not a fan. I was one of the first people in the state of Wisconsin to put a deposit down on a 1125R. That was until I found out that they didn't make the subframe mounts to match the XB subframes. I pulled my deposit.

I still love my tubers (S3T and S1W). My wife still loves her Blast. But I'm getting too old for the anticts of a few on the board.

Will I ever buy another Buell? Sure...as long as it was made before 2002 : )

Frank,

I have been on this board since 2002 when I bought my M2L. It IS and always will be the perfect bike for me. I LOVE my Buell and I bought the best bike for my purposes, sport riding, but able to go long distances over mountain ranges and such.

At Homecoming Erik said the M2 is the least reliable Buell ever made. It didn't offend me. He just stated a fact about HIS product. My M2 has never given me a problem. Not one.

I have ridden numerous XBs but they are not for me. They are for people who live to hang off their bike... it is all good.

I started on a 750 Yamaha SECA which was cumbersome for me to handle. Dropped it a half dozen times the first summer. I loved that bike too, but not like the Cyclone. If I knew about the Blast maybe would have started there...

To each his own. I think the new campaign is cool also though not for me. I don't really know what all the controversy is about myself. But I am not sure how I would feel if he crushed a tuber. The point is we all ride and strive to become better riders together.

Badweb has a lot of negative and opinionated people on it but the good far outweighs the bad. The point is we all ride and love riding no matter which bike we choose.

"Whoever posted the email of the advertiser that was responsible for that ad you are way out of line. "

It was me, I did it. If he cant handle the heat, he shouldnt have put it out there Open Source for public consumption.

Buell builds a great bike, I love my CityX; Whao to the azzhat that tries to cu3e it. I would have preferred a Dirty Bike from Buell, because of the engineering they have done on their other bikes, I know it would be great. Barring that the WRX is quite happy in the garage.
I have no intentions of getting my race license and forking down the 30k for the 1125RR, I am not the target audience for that ride. Nor the Bob.

Now, I am off to Ride.

See ya over in the riding game thread, y'all remember riding : )
