WOW! thats all i can say. hopefully he's in a better place

BANGKOK – Actor David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" who also had a wide-ranging career in the movies, has been found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok. A news report said he was found hanged in his hotel room and was believed to have committed suicide.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He said the embassy was informed by Thai authorities that Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family.

The Web site of the Thai newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room.

It said Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot a movie and had been staying at the hotel since Tuesday.

The newspaper said Carradine could not be contacted after he failed to appear for a meal with the rest of the film crew on Wednesday, and that his body was found by a hotel maid at 10 a.m. Thursday morning. The name of the movie was not immediately available.

It said a preliminary police investigation found that he had hanged himself with a cord used with the room's curtains. It cited police as saying he had been dead at least 12 hours and there was no sign that he had been assaulted.

A police officer at Bangkok's Lumpini precinct station would not confirm the identity of the dead man to The Associated Press, but said the luxury Swissotel Nai Lert Park hotel had reported that a male guest killed himself there.

Carradine was a leading member of a venerable Hollywood acting family that included his father, character actor John Carradine, and brother Keith.

In all, he appeared in more than 100 feature films with such directors as Martin Scorsese, Ingmar Bergman and Hal Ashby.

But he was best known for his role as Kwai Chang Caine, a Shaolin priest traveling the 1800s American frontier West in the TV series "Kung Fu," which aired in 1972-75.

He reprised the role in a mid-1980s TV movie and played Caine's grandson in the 1990s syndicated series "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues."

He returned to the top in recent years as the title character in Quentin Tarantino's two-part saga "Kill Bill.

I'm showing my (lack of) age here, but I only know this guy as the host of "Wild West Tech" on the Discovery channel.

Hope he's in a better place.

Nope, it was David. Just double checked it.

*edit* - Looks like Keith did it at one point and David took over the role later on.

So we're both right.

Man I hate to hear that. Whatever could have made him do it?

There are very few circumstances that would make me want to snuff myself.

Seems to me, had I been him, I would've called up my buddy Tarantino and told him to assemble all the girls from Kill Bill for the best EVAAARRR home hospice staff. ; )

That's the way I'd rather go, given a choice. He didn't have to go that way.

RIP, Kane- Godspeed to your peace, master.

or...
"...nearly all reported autoerotic strangulation deaths involve men."

http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/826704-overv iew

Edit: "Some people experiment with hypoxia as a means of intensifying orgasm. Marquis de Sade first described this practice in his writings. Autoerotic play using a ligature or noose to produce hypoxia during masturbation can result in accidental strangulation."

Uh... closer to the truth, he was actually interested in suicide for quite some time.

I liked him in the Kung Fu series and got a kick out of the recent Yellow Book Pages commercials he did but my favorite Carradine movie of all was 1976's Cannonball. It came out when I was three and I can remember seeing bits of it when I was young and remembering how cool those old, well not at the time, cars were.

I just heard on the news that reports are coming in that it might have been an accident which would lend credence to Hex's autoerotic strangulation theory.

Can you say Mike Hutchinson or whatever his name was from INXS?

I think its both...autoerotic strangulation and a cheating death thrill.

I mean, after I read Swordsman's link, I thought this poor guy finds some strength of will from almost killing himself (probably numerous successful attempts), then goes back to his very stressful acting job where he has to come off as hyper real in order for the cameras to believe his work.

Just a theory.

I do think it was suicide, but probably accidental.

Wow. I grew up listening to Euro pop music.

INXS was one of the best bands nobody knew.

Hutchence hanged himself and his weasel, terminally.

Geez, it aint the hard to get the warm and fuzzy BECAUZE YUR A RAWK STAR!!!!

The drummer for Crowded House offed himself by hanging too- but I think he was manic/depressive. Such a talent, both for drumming and singing and writing.

Yeah.

Still think I would have rather been nursed physically by Uma, Lucy, and Daryll Hannah.

Gotta check out properly.
