I don't usually buy into the hype of "they are going to take them away" but this doesn't look good........

very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House.

This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.

We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program.

Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the radar.

To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information. (I have copied the bill and attached it below.)

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

•It is registered

•You are fingerprinted

•You supply a current Driver's License

•You supply your Social Security #

•You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing

•Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

•There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

Ridiculous. Slightly less retarded than the proposal to require all bullets be serialized and registered, but still ridiculous.

Besides, Uncle Sam taught me how to use em and range em in,

They're determined... If they can't legally take them, they'll make sure they know where each one is when they find the means to take them.

You should bury them nearby in a not too obvious spot. So you can get to them in a hurry.
In case they come for them when you're out

thumper,

As far as I found (received this in an email) the only thing you can do right now is 1) contact your state representitive and 2) join a group like the NRA or something. I am currently not a member but that is part of the reason I got my concealed carry permit. I know that it highlights me or whatever but I figured if I could add one more name to the list of people who obviously believe in the right to bear arms then maybe the lawmakers would notice eventually.

What is it with you people and guns?

I know it's your right to bear arms. But what do you actually do with them?

Not trying to start a flame war. Just curious.

Mostly I slaughter the fierce Coke can. Ya gotta go for the 'o'.
Some traditional target competition, & I've been trying to afford IPSC for a while, looks like fun.

I do have Coyotes in my yard, bear in the woods, and goblins in the city, but I would only shoot one if needed. Rodents, though, like 'chuck and prairie poodle, are fair game as well as a civic duty. ( in season with a hunting license )

I don't see a problem with the law. now, it will not stop illegal sales of "lost" guns, but will help make the laws common across state lines.

The mental/ physical eval is a good thing, think about the nut case that shot up VT. Now if you could carry on campus then there would have been less lives lost.

If you have a child your guns should be locked up. you are stupid to think children have the mental thought processes to handle firearms unsupervised.

i would put the cut off age for children at 16ish instead of 18 though. If the kid can drive and operate a deadly weapon (car) then they car own a gun.

i would add ballistics to the law. that way every barrel is tracked.

Don't sound too restrictive to me. Very similar to the National Gun Registry here in Canada.

I also fail to see the obsession with guns.

Buellinator, 3 evenings ago I'm sitting in a car as a passenger at a gas station, my friend who carries a concealed carry permit in my state was pumping gas. There was another car on the other side of the pumps with 2 males, one male got out and started to approach me, my friend who carries saw this and became visible to the man approaching me. They made eye contact and some form of communication went between them which pissed off the man approaching me to the point of throwing his water bottle and getting in his car and taking off. He was angry. I wonder why?

Keep for home protection, carry for self defense, and shoot up those evil paper targets about once a week.

Babired--Maybe the guy was just going to chat you up and your friend did something to offend him?

It's a shame that people have to carry guns to "protect" themselves. A friend of mine who shoots competitively once told me if he felt the need to carry a gun when he went somewhere, he would simply not go.

A mental/physical evaluation can be very subjective, and much like statistics any conclusions can be predetermined and data recorded during the assessment to support the desired results. For example, saying firearm ownership is an obsession is in reality a conclusion based upon a perception. YMMV

As to what can be done about things, vote. Once certain factions are in office and in control then the next avenue for change is the court system, but that is a very costly avenue.

Don't look for the direct assault, instead look at indirect approaches and underlaying agendas.

I guess coming from a place where you feel safe all the time make you wonder about other parts of North America.

We have crime but not to the extent of other major cities.

Nope I think he was getting ready to rob me, I didn't even see him. The way he took off makes me believe he was getting ready to commit a crime. I have experienced going around without firearms most of my life, and now I have friends who carry, one is a Capital PD and the other carries with a permit and is an NRA instructor.
This was in the city and I agree with your friend I don't go anywhere that I feel uncomfortable. Once you do carry legally you really have to make your standards high while out in public.

I have to agree Newfie_buell. I guess Canadians take their safety for granted. Maybe it's naivete. Apart from the really big cities (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal) crime isn't a huge problem. Lower population density in most areas probably might have something to do with it too. I'm sure 9/11 shook up the average American's feelings of security. We haven't experienced anything like that (yet). If we do, maybe our thoughts on gun ownership will change.

It's more than just a law about guns. Its yet another attempt by the federal government to eliminate a right granted to citizens by the US constitution.

Ask the million or so Jews in Nazi Germany how gun control worked out in the 1930s.

All this law does is take guns away from responsible citizens. Soon the only people with guns will be criminals and the police.

Please remember to take out a country or government

disarm the populace
wreck the currency
destroy the industrial base
take away individuals rights

Our constitutional rights are slowly being userped by our "elected officials" who hold the view that "its for our own good"

Its illegal for a private citizen in Canada to own a hand gun,

wanna cut down on crime, arm every one

That's how it is in Baltimore now you can go into the inner city and see a grip sticking out of some guys pants walking the street just like it was a normal day. Police response is slow. Police actually told me to take the law into my own hands if I have to one day. Am I going to retire in the city HELL NO! I'm going to the Smokey Mountains! K

The sad truth is that the left seems to only be concerned about the rights of NON-CITIZENS.

Wire tap a foreign national from a hostile nation, we are all going to hell in a hand basket.

Imprison a murderous enemy combatant, they must have due process.

Newfie and buellinater,

I understand that Canada is different. I have been there a few times and have a close friend who was raised there. I also know that the majority of Canadian's seem pretty open minded. The deal with fire arms in the states is that 1) We have been given the right by our founding fathers to have them. 2) They are simply part of this culture. I do not condone any irresponsible ownership or use. I am actually very very strict on my safety rules with fire arms. The thing is though that I DO have the right to have them. I do NOT believe in the thought process of making laws for the minority and yes it is the minority of gun owners that are irresponsible. As stated before, with the crime in this country by making laws to disarm law abiding citizens all you are doing is disarming them against the criminals. Do you think that a murderer/rapist/carjacker is going to not carry a weapon because it is a crime? Obviously not because they don't care about the law anyways. However if the local crackhead tries to come into my house to rob me so that he can have money to score the next high then I should be able to stand my ground and defend myself. Also as it was pointed out that if there were more armed people the tragic events like the school (college obviously a grade schooler isn't supposed to carry) shootings there would most probably be far less innocent bloodshed.

It doesn't stop the bad guys from having, using or accessing guns. It only keeps the honest people honest. The crooks don't play by the rules.
