Not just here but on other forums. If so, they must be getting worried. All the gloom and doom I've been reading leads me to believe there will be a revolution or civil war at least very soon. You can only opress the people so much. It's comming hard and fast now. tic. tic. tic. This country is at war. We need to pay attention to that. Extreme civil unrest is a nice, comfy invite for attack. There is talk about that too! It's one thing to stay informed and on top of current events, new laws and such but it's entirely another to spend your paycheck on ammo instead of rent. It seems to me that the worst thing we can do in these difficult times is this doom and gloom crap. Yes, there are problems. Yes, there are bills being passed that are apparently insane. The thing to do is to find a way to counter the problems, one at a time. Not to make it worse by talkin all this doom and gloom crap. deep breath I need to stay off the www for a while. I already don't watch tv much. An organization needs to be formed. Kind of a think tank, who's purpose it is to monitor these events and analize the reprocussions. To form a counter against it if nessessary. Turn the problems around on them so that they are sticking firmly out their collective asses. I posted this with no references to facts, obviously. It's purpose for me is to spark some inteligent conversation and just to blow off steam. I am not the only one feeling like this, at least around here. I expect that some of you will jump my ass about it (if anyone even responds) and that's ok with me. I am not trying to start confrontation, just conversation. Dan |

I don't get it. The schooling fish routine. From what I've seen we are still at less than 10% unemployed. That is 90% still the same. That is a distorted number though, as even in the best of times, unemployment runs 4.5%. So actually, the new unemployed is about 4.5%. That sounds to me to be more of an adjustment(per twenty or so year trends). My question.....why must the so called smartest, wealthiest, and brightest among us be such schooling fish? |

If they read such things, I assume it is either a punishment tour or a paranoiac's heaven. "Oh, goody, this new thread on drain plug teflon tape surely will have the key to the secret code that these conspirators are using!" |

Slaughter deep in conversation with his old pal, Elvis. (File photo.) The prudent citizen will always give serious consideration to proper head gear, whether on his motorized bicycle, or engaged in other pursuits. Better safe than sorry, I always say. Am I right, oh my brothers?

Being the kind of person that is always on the leading edge....I prefer the helmet made of carbon nanotubes/unobtainium composite. And Elvis is REALLY my parts chaser. Seriously...I hope the Thought-Police are watching. |

Interesting I talked to my real estate loan guy yesterday. He said he thinks a big part of the real estate bust was all the talk on the news that it was going to happen. Tell everybody that it's going to happen then everybody got scarred and it did happen. It may not be the only reason but it didn't help. |

Yup, a frightening amount of our economy has not the first thing to do with reality. Rumors and fears drive it more than anything else. And as far as the "civil war" and "opression" comments go.... ever cracked a history book? Heck panhead, I just looked at your profile, you actually lived through the segregation era. We're nowhere near oppressed. Pretty sure the news woulda' been all over a foreclosure protest rally. ~SM |

I would be mad if the Gov't was reading this instead of lurking a sites that would be possible places for terrorists. Back to my old NRA friend he hangs out at the gun shops TOO much and that is all he talks about. I say he hangs out at the gun shop too much all of the talk there will make you paranoid after a while. K |

>>>I say he hangs out at the gun shop too much all of the talk there will make you paranoid after a while. Ever since getting visited by the feds over the content of some e-mails, I've viewed some of this intrusion stuff quite differently. I happened to be doing a project in TIMES SQUARE, NEW YORK CITY and had a foreman named Mike BOMBadier. You work the combination. Someone obviously did. |

Court thats crazy! I know for sure the gov isn't watching this forum. However, Freerepublic, Democraticunderground, Stormfront, Infoshop, totally different story. I've never trusted the gov to do what they say with surveillance, seems no matter who it is the surveillance eventually turns to political enemies. Human nature is just too corrupt. |

I'd comment in detail, but I'd get myself in trouble. Suffice it to say that there are NOT enough people to monitor EVERY webpage/forum. But if you say something that might 'interest' folks, don't be surprised when you get a knock on the door. |

>>>Suffice it to say that there are NOT enough people to monitor EVERY webpage/forum. I doubt it has anything to do with people . . . if it did, I'd have never been on anybody's radar screen. There was actually a great program on the History Channel last week about electronic monitoring and how billions of phone, e-mail and so forth can be simultaneously monitored. |

They don't need to read the forum. They get a copy of the posting off the net before it even reaches the server. Sort of chilling IMO. This used to be not so much a concern because there were not enough gov't eyes to read all the garbage on the net. But with faster and faster computers, the risk to a free society becomes greater. It is now or will soon be possible to archive every electronic communication of every human on earth for their entire life and then profile them for whatever purposes this gov't or any future gov't or foreign gov't might find useful. Whatever is not legally allowed in any country is simple to workaround by doing it somewhere else offshore. It deserves a big public discussion but right now fear makes this the wrong time. |

You know, the unintended consequence of Government being "able to read" all BBS posts - and the paranoia that goes along with it? E-Darwinism! Only the IDIOTS will post stupid shit on BBSs and if they're taken down by the Government - I say we are improving the intellectual level of the herd. I say that such intellectual "culling" is a GOOD thing! |

Tell everybody that it's going to happen then everybody got scarred and it did happen. It may not be the only reason but it didn't help. I believe your real estate guy is both right and wrong 2008. Yes, the media really knows how to stir the pot. But the credit loaners were/are loaning money to people that are buying houses WAY out of their price range. I'm an example of that. On paper, I can't afford my home. Between my full time job, officiating, and side jobs I'm ok. Many people aren't. I watched the Presidental Address last night. He could have been talking from his ass, but I felt the honesty in his voice. One line that sticks out from the address was about alternate fuels. He made a statement about American made hybrids with foreign parts/pieces. You could see the disgust in his face. If it's American made, stop out sourcing, keep it here. I'm 27 and this election was the first I ever voted on. I registered a week before I voted. Even though my vote really doesn't count for crap, it felt good to know I'm making a choice to hopefully help this country. I use to have the whatever type attitude until I realized the things passed through Congress directly affects me. But my question still is..."Who is going to bail me out?" Banks, auto industry, and others are being bailed out. Why not us? We've all done the same things they have. What makes us so much different. |

"But my question still is..."Who is going to bail me out?" Banks, auto industry, and others are being bailed out. Why not us? We've all done the same things they have. They donated a LOT more to the folks w/ the (D) and (R) after their names than you or I, so therefore our 'bailout' starts showing up in our paychecks ~ April 1st once the tax relief (rebate) starts kicking in. Try not to spend it all in 1 place, ok? |

Your absolutely correct P. Now that you've said that I remember Obama talking about that last night. I just hope Obama isn't just talking like Bush seemed to. Obama wants to do a lot. I really hope all parties involved will help the cause. It almost seemed like our nation did things according to Bush's personal agenda. Too many people now a days have the "What's in it for me?" type attitude. I just hope this is not the case the next four years. My .02c |

We won't get a bailout. Contrary to popular belief, theres no difference between Dems and Repubs. There just 2 competing brands that all have the same goal: getting your money and getting power. At the end of the day, they go home to mansions, yachts and Benzes while we go home to split-foyers and Fords. (Message edited by b00stzx3 on February 25, 2009) |
