Well it's day 1 of "reduced hours" for me at work. Whoopee! Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty ok with 3 day weekends, but 25% less income is not so cool. I'm at starbucks using their wireless and hunting jobs. Fridays are officially job hunting (and badweb surfing) day. And riding day.  | ||

Adam: Considering the economic condition these days, you might want to ask Blake if an informal job referral thread could be started. Networking is great tool to find a job. Most of us at one time or another have been laid off. I've been RIF'd twice. I took this position because of it's "job security". Neil S. | ||

Given the choice, I would rather sit at a bar reading the actual newspaper. Ounce per ounce, tappers are cheaper than Starbucks, and they won't keep you up at night. Plus, one of the best jobs I ever had came from another "regular." I think a "job" thread would be a great idea. Informal channels are usually way more useful and effective than applying for a job in the paper. | ||

Yeah starbucks can eat it. I've spend about 10 bucks there in my whole life. Good place to observe spoiled hotties in their natural environment, though.  I got my app out for a job in KY with the Army Joint Munitions Command at Blue Grass Army Depot doing environmental work there. Also got an iron in the fire with a company in Oak Ridge TN where I have a connection. We'll see. The biz I'm in now (DOT work) is in the crapper and I may get canned entirely if things don't swing upward soon. I totally agree about networking...every job I've ever gotten has been through people I know professionally or personally. I've sent probably 100 resumes and applications since I started out of college, 99% of without a response. Hiring is so convoluted nowadays, your best bet is to keep up with the people you know and look for jobs that way. The obstacle I see with a job board page on BWB would be sorting out so many different fields...we're a diverse bunch. Indeed.com is my favorite place to look. Best wishes to all the BWB'ers on riding out the economic storm. In my experience we are a pretty well-grounded crowd, and that is what will see us through, IMHO. | ||

I drink coffee all day. BLACK only with nothing else in it. I tried Starbucks - did something I have never done in my long life. - TOSSED IT AWAY. It was pure c**p. I guess if you drink it with all the foo-foo in it you might like it. I'll never waste my money there again. | ||

friends dont let friends drink Starbucks They double burn the bean. It is the McDonalds of coffee. If you want a good burger, you are not going to chez Mc. same for the Bucks. Besides any self aware Seattle resident, roasts, grinds and brews their own. My coffee equipment is only second to all the bike stuff I own. | ||

I have an ongoing e-mail dialogue with Starbucks. I too drink coffee, black with nothing in it starting a 4:00 am and I am sick and tired of having to wait for 10 minutes, and then be met with an attitude, waiting for folks ordering drinking that sound like pharmaceutical perceptions. The good news is that it's driving me to start finding more of those very cool New York City out of the way joints . . . and there are about 2,500 of them. Current favorite for coffee is the Hungarian Pastry Shop (next to Columbia), Butler Library ( you have to be a student to get in but Cafe' 212 in the library has some of the best coffee and homemade pastry in town and Butler has plenty of "green zones") and Cafe' Grumpy which is next to a riding buddies art gallery. I'm starting to carry THIS with me. | ||

Hot chicks, politics, starbucks bitching, and unemployment...guess I tripped and fell into a decent thread for once!  It was Dept. of Transpo. work that I was mentioning, and yeah if the claimed big solution "stimulus package" does come down the pipe then things may get better quickly. Even so, being an environmental person for roadway projects is like running with a field notebook in front of a steamroller. Sorta like this:  So a change would be welcome either way. F_B - Nice suggestion, hadn't really thought about Huntsville, but it could work. I like budweiser, guns, and trucks. Maxwell House, woot! | ||

Out of all the places to get coffee easily in my area, I find Starbucks the best tasting. Pricewise, they are on par with Dunken Donuts (which I can't understand why people like there coffee), and other chains. I do prefer to make my own coffee with freshly ground Millstone brand in a French press. | ||

Well I am getting CLOSE to being in the SAME boat.. My job LAW ENFORCEMENT for the STATE... they are now rumoring about ONE day off a month to start.... Acav, Don't forget about Huntsville. And, we could use another Buell rider out here. It really is nice out here too. My wife and I moved here from Atlanta 6 years ago. We both grew up there. I grew up in Stone Mountain, she grew up in Snellville. There is a boat load more technology here than in Atlanta, mainly due to the Arsenal, and the supporting contractors. AND.. there is pretty much zero traffic... at all... any time... ever. I don't know what line of work you are in, but if you want, I could send you a laundry list of govt. contractors in the area. } |
