It is indeed, Dyna. But mostly by people who ride the track for testing limits of traction in corners - much less for the straight-line prowess.

There is however a huge difference between a good track bike ridden by an average rider, and the basis for a championship winning race bike ridden by top notch amateur racers - which is probably how that sentence should have been phrased.

Seemed like a nitpick, even for you

Henrik

Philly, swapping race bike for track bike makes more sense.

And good luck on the interview.

Ferris, ya I saw the smiley, just in a crappy mood today. Both the wife & I are sick, some type of stomach flu...no fun at all.

May I sugest Beginners Bikes New Riders Forum (you'll find a link to it in the Thumper KV - links to stuff you can't find here section). Mention the fact that you are a BADWEBer, the single owner and that you have the bikes history - and that your probably older than 25 - lol - and you could put your price down as $2,500.00 and probably get it. People there look for good, well kept used bikes to start with, too many used beginner bikes are owned by 18 year olds who trash them as a matter of course - lol

Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

hey Dyna, quick, while we're on speakin' terms and all, in your first three triple-digit examples above you were drivin' a car, right? hardly counts as live ammo when we're talkin' bikes.

and in your fourth example, my S2 woulda ALMOST kept up, the X1 i rode back and forth across the country in '99 WOULDA kept up (with some left over), and my S1W MIGHT have been able to keep up (i haven't pulled that particular trigger, yet -- please refer back to ny old/brittle/afraid comments above).

and in your last example you don't even mention the specific miles per hour.

it's no biggie to me, and far be it from me to speak on Court's behalf, but i believe the general idea of his comments is that Erik doesn't need to go head-to-head against the Japanese in the Top Speed Wars to prove he builds a good motorcycle.

i mean, how fast is "fast enough" to qualify as a good motorcyle? if it's all about outright speed, all Ducatis, all RC51's, all R1's, and all Gixxer Thou's are nothing but steaming dung heaps.

in fact, the top speed issue taken to it's illogical conclusion would make the Hayabusa and the ZX-12R THE ABSOLUTE BEST MOTORCYCLES IN THE WORLD, right? i mean, if speed is The Thing, can any of us truly be men (or women) if we own anything less?

the answer, of course, is obvious.

here's another way of looking at it: the '69 Corvette i owned in a past life was good for about 140 with the 350/350 small-block and gearing it had in it. pretty fast, and great fun getting there, but there were (and still are) plenty of sports cars around that'd go faster. that fact sure didn't make my 'Vette a POS, or any less fun.

one more example: on day three of the CA BRAG ride last year, at what i deemed an appropriate time, about six or eight of us distanced ourselves from the rest of the group and absolutely RAILED down Yokohl Valley Road (a real gem) south of Sequoia Nat'l Park. i was in pretty good company -- Fireman Jim, Vik, Dusty Kat from Custom Chrome, Bobby/Captain America, and several others -- and we were FLYIN'.

but, really, i doubt we were ever much over 100 mph, and probably considerably less. that's about as fast as you can take most of that road and still have a little "moment" room left over.

and the roads that i like to ride best are almost always that way, i.e. about 80-100 mph or so max (not so coincidentally, right in a Buell's sweet spot). 150 is fun, no doubt, but where, really, can you ride like that, and why would you want to?

i'd LOVE to own a Hayabusa. i hated the looks of 'em at first, but the damn things have grown on me, especially after riding one. it's a marvelous machine, capable of pretty much ANYTHING you could ever ask from a motorcycle.

but really, if you're buyin' it (or a 12) 'cause it'll do 186 mph out of the box and nothing else out there will, i think your priorities may be a little askew.

anyway, no worries dude, i'm just typin'. i should be riding, or polishing, or SOMETHING, besides this.

get well soon. :)

Other than trying for a Land Speed Record, why would you want to even maintain over 100mph for extended periods of time.

Slow down and enjoy the scenery!!!!!

I get the squid boys around here too and on the long straights (not very many around here I may add) they kick ass but you know something getting to the final destination 5 minutes faster is really nothing in the grand scheme of things.

:) (yes, I am having more fun with this thread than it may appear)

P.S. - Ferris, Bryce Hunter is passing about straight South of you, on 58 Highway, as I type this. I am watching him along 20 Mule Team Road on the "Daddy-Cam". Remember when you could hide stuff from your folks and Penske trucks couldn't be bugged like James Bond sticking that thing in the trunk of Goldfinger's Rolls-Royce? The world today totally suck or what?...hehehe

Note: (wisdom is intentionally spelled "widsom" above to test and see if anyone is really reading...yeah, I meant to do that)

Court, Hwy 58 is about 40 minutes south of here if i take the Lion's Trail, and 20 Mule Team Road runs parallel to Edwards AFB and is where some of "Erin Brokovich" was filmed. anyway, i'm typin' fast 'cause the chicken on the BBQ (which is extra-cool because it's so damn cold outside) is about to burn. can't wait for my special Buell thingie :)

ok, dinner time!

To which Court replied You have learned well Grasshopper. E-mail me your address for a rare Buell souvenier to commemorate your widsom.

Rocket said some 7 hours earlier I think I understand perfectly what Buell is doing differently with its unique approach towards performance but in the real world Buell hasn't built a high performance bike in the true sense but rather cleverly they have attempted with some success to change the perception of what constitutes a high performance bike.

To which Court replied I agree that Rocket understands just as much as he thinks he does.

To which Rocket says

I agree that Court understands just as much as he thinks he does so oh wise one please explain to my dumb arse the difference between mine and Ferris's comments.

Not looking for a souvenier souvenir - just pointing out your favouritism. Seems there's no point in trying to get on your good side so I won't.

Rocket

none of the Buells are bad mounts, lets face it, you are not going to find anything to out handle one, even an older one. But, around this part of the country there is more street racing in the form of drag racing. My theory is if does'nt handle as good run it harder in the corner. Court thank you for the kind words. My XB was not bad, it just got boring, and experience has shown me when it gets boring and you quit respecting what it can do to you is when you are going to get hurt. So it is best to move on to bigger but not always "better" things.

Speaking of which, Scrap how ya healin'?
Best way to sell a Blast? Patience. It's all about finding the right buyer and the right time of year. When I decided I wanted to sell mine, a few weeks after putting it up for sale I was talking to a buddy of mine who wanted to get a first bike for his g/f. Sold. Now if anyone can tell me the best way to sell a 2000 Mustang GT? My need for a truck is becoming painfully evident. You know it's bad when I miss my old 84 F250.

The best way to sell a blast is to ship it to me and let me run it around Daytona during bike week. Those rubes will buy anything.

Why sell a Blast? I have an early 2000, and I have modified her somewhat, but no way I could sell her. One good cylinder is enough, and better yet, she has a great bloodline. Well, Maybe, I could part with her for an XB6 or an XB7.2!
