Rocket & Newfies little Saab obsession has me thinking of the ugliest cars ever mass produced.

For sure a 73 Volvo is and who could forget the memorable but extremely hideous 75 AMC Pacer. Worked with a fellow who had an old Saab that looked kinda like an overgrown VW beetle..real damn ugly. The VW Thing is another abomination.

What would be your pick of the 3 ugliest cars ever produced? This is strictly based on looks, not reliability or lack of, not on performance, just looks.

1 Eagle. The first SUV wagon.
2 1974 Datsun (remember them?) B210 four door. I had one.
3 The mid 90's to 2003 Ford F150 trucks. They look like the clay slumped after the designers got done and before the engineers came in the next morning. "They want us to build that? OK, whatever"

I've gotta agree on the VW Thing.

The Aztek tops my SUV list. Although calling that little shit an SUV is stretching things.

Any Ford truck.

As a nether-vehicle, I can't stand the god-damned Chevy Avalanche. It's not good at being either a truck OR an SUV, suffers from the same visual traits that make me hate the Aztek (pretty much all GM vehicles are rapidly approaching this category), and in all honesty is made for men who don't have the balls to tell their wives they're going to buy a real pickup.

I once saw a VW Thing painted pink with purple polka dots. It was in Colorado Springs in the mid '70s. I only saw it once, and nobody else that I know ever saw it. And I wasn't high at the time, either. (I think. Or was I? The '70 are kind of a blur, now)
Anyway, my pick for the ugliest car would have to be that Chevrolet Caprice that looked like an oversized bathtub on wheels. My wife calls the Aztec a "big ugly beast" The Avalanche is both hideous and ineffective. I also don't understand the logic behind the crew cab pickups with the four foot beds. One of the Hybrids (I'm not sure which one) looks like a Trilobite on wheels. And the new Honda SUV looks like something that was drawn by a kid in Kindergarten.

Anything made by Renault.

And the Buick Sky-whatever that was essentially the Olds Achieva. I could never look at that car long enough to determine if it was a Skylark, Skyhawk, or what.

The Pacer is a good choice
Those new Honda SUV things are nasty
Almost any Volkswagon
Bathtub Caprice except the SS
Almost any Saab

Honda Elements and Toyota Scion B's
GM products Avalanche/Escalade
Subaru Brats
Bug Eyed Sprites reminded me of smooshed VW convertables. The new Beetle still hasn't grown on me.
The new KTM Duke reminds me of someone who didn't know how to use a frenchcurve for drafting...
any 70's era lowrider with 20+ inch dayton wire wheels (monte carlos/buick Regals etc)
As a previous owner of a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab with the short bed, it was just the right size for my needs. If I needed to haul a bike it still fit with the tailgate down. But most of what I haul around in the bed was easier to get at/take out with the short bed. Course now I have a Titan and a 2x12 spread across the bed...

The Aztec tops my list - PERIOD. I would like to give props to Toyota for seeming to be on the quest to design progressively uglier cars. They do at least deserve an honorable mention.

Honda Element is number one in my poll. The exterior looks like something made by the Nazi's in the 1940's.

Chainsaw - I agree and great use of the periodic table in your post.

Although I do like smaller cars, the Scion B is UGLY and so small that I always am looking for a Paul Bunyon type giant to be walking behind it holding a remote control unit.

The Avalanche rounds out my top (bottom?) three. And this is only the most obvious of cars that are currently built. There are just too many to list if you go back to the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Ah, the Corvair. My first car was a 1960 Covair 4-door with 80HP and a two speed Powerglide. It DID get me from California to Wisconsin and then on to Pennsylvania, but there was one stretch in Wyoming where I wondered if reverse wouldn't have been faster.

Hey I had a Subaru Brat - I used to drop the tailgate and ram it in reverse into the side of a hill, ride my quad into the back, front wheels in the "jump seats" and use the seat belts for tie downs. Functional, but ugly. For that matter, what about the new Subaru Baja?
