bit your Tongue. OSX is not Linux. It is a mach Kernel, With a FreeBSD Userland, and the Aqua Graphic Interface.
All of this PC Vs Mac stuff is silly. We all know the mac is better (I making full use of the smugness).
I am a computer geek, every since I started writing basic code on my commodore when I 8 (24 years ago). I've been addicted to computers.
Currently here at home, there is a 42" rack in the basement. The computers in it are running FreeBSD 6.3, and 7.0. OpenBSD, NetBSD, Solaris 10, Solaris 8, Ubuntu. The Computer on my desk at home boots between FreeBSD 7, Windows XP , and Ubuntu.
The computer I use all the time and I like the best my 17" Mac Book Pro Running Leopard. Since it allows me to easily use all my fav *nix utilites (via mac ports), while providing a nice stable environment without the futzing that thing like linux/freebsd require on a laptop.
To be fair, part of the instability of windows is the fact that M$ doesn't control all the hardware, so the OS has to relay on third party drivers and the like, and from what I have seen that is a bit part of the issue. Also M$ tends to support everything back for a while (thus bringing a lot of legacy crap along with it).

Yep, that’s why vista is totally different. 64 Bit Vista is even better. It did suck at first waiting for drivers but now everyone is up to speed and has them. MS cut the umbilical cord with a lot of the legacy junk. There is no 16 bit sub system anymore, so I need to use my old ass computer if I want to fire up a round of Duke Nukem 3d
Oh yea, just installed the Google browser, it looks cool. I will give a full report in a few days.
I'm using an IBM Thinkpad T42 that I bought in 2005. It has survived years of college, including running some heafty programs like Maple, years worth of internet e-mail, instant messaging, gaming, internet porn (you all know you look, lol), BS programs installed and uninstalled, forums, etc. It have never crashed, freezed up maybe 2 times, and never seen the 'blue screen of death'.
That said, I have no idea what my next computer will be. I'm not married to having a PC - OSX is pretty slick, but the bottom line is I don't do anything heavy-duty anymore. As long as I can do internet, office proframs like Excel and Word, and house my music and photos, I'm happy.
I am almost ashamed what I have spent on computers. My last apple purchase was north of $11k. But it is for work, and I don't own a car, and live in a kelvinator crate.
Kelvinator!?! Man, I didn't think anyone knew what a Kelvinator was any more. I can remember when Kelvinator was a word like Kleenex. I guess I was a teenager before I knew it was a brand name.
Something to make you laugh. I was having a discussion with my business partner and few close friends. I mentioned because of the economy, I am shopping for a new Kelvinator crate. This time I am upgrading to a subzero box. Lots of space, and to add to the luxury I have downloaded a fireplace app to my iphone. Nothing like faux warmth to let you know you have arrived.
The thing I've noted with some folks who 'have arrived' is they get so uptight about staying on - that they lose what got them there in the first place.

For the non vi users out there. Replace the " with a U in the above line.
that should have been a 42U rack (stands a bit over 6 feet tall, as each U == 1.75") So technically I have a 72" rack (we won't be discussing the other rack as this is a family friendly website (and swmbo told me to talk about it anyways).

One of these days I will try it, but it would probably take a lot to get me to switch back I gave up running windows as a primary OS when I installed linux on my Computer back in '94. Being a perl/php/ruby programmer, and supporting a bunch of freebsd servers. I just more comfy in a unix now a days. (I do have XP so I can play some games though ...)
