Not to suggest for a moment that any one in the Ivory Towers of East Troy, would ever notice anything going on in Sag Harbor, but there is an interesting coincidence between the front of the new 1125CR and our Lil' Blackie, isn't there.

Many other features have also appeared here first.

To name just a few that I recall at the moment:

1. Blacked out motor - LoneXB among others
2. Blacked out forks: Damnut, LXB, others
3. Hidden rear rotor: I forget the builder's name
4. Black dash: Type one
5. R tail on street fighters: too many to mention, don't know who was first.
6. Longer wheelbase: Hal's

Anyone got any others to add?

PS: It interesting to me, who has always felt that the 52" wheelbase was inappropriate on a bike a big as a Buell to see that Erik and company have quietly abandoned this concept.

Now only the City Cross, in a range of nine models, retaining the short wheelbase.

Actually, gentleman jon, the CR featyres old-school "clubman" bars, which have been used on "cafe" scoots for WELL over half-a-century.

Early 1%er clubs first began inverting them, as "Z" bars, in the 1940s, as pictured on the CR.

Citing "blacked-out" componets as originating with badweb members is silly, at best.

Riders have been blacking-out their scoots forever.

The smart thing they do is invite us all up every year for Homecoming....

We show up with all our Mod's on display...
Take a few pic's, sort out the good from the bad...
DA DING.... It shows up on the new models.

Harley has been doing it for a LONG time.

This just shows how closely Buell pays attention to thier customers. You want blacked out cases, black forks, hidden rear brakes, water-cooled sportbikes, water-cooled streetfighter... No Problem here ya go!

No if you read it morphed into the Ss and the Ss morphed into a STT...knin of. Now that makes a little sense as the Ss has the longer travel boingers and looks a lot better than the STT. I guess I can called it ugly as I have one!

PLUS you don't have to pony us around $300.00 to give your girl a ride...motorbike ride that is! }

That makes sense... most dealers turned the TT's into SS's anyway. It's a shame because the white TT was great looking bike, the only thing I would have done was take off the beak, that's it.

"This just shows how closely Buell pays attention to thier customers. You want blacked out cases, black forks, hidden rear brakes, water-cooled sportbikes, water-cooled streetfighter... No Problem here ya go!"

as much as we'd all like to think so, blacking-out of components and water-cooling are predictable evolutions in any American-manufactured/constructed motorcycle line.
This had less to do with what Buell riders were doing to their machines than it did with simple growth and movement towards more popular aesthetics and modern engine-cooling technology.
If, tomorrow, Buell unveils , say, a green motorcycle, is everyone who's painted their Buell green going to suddenly claim some avataristic street-cred?}

Black right now is in. Maybe it was back in the 40's. Styles change and they come back around. Buell does pay attention to what they see on customers bikes. Its a growing fad in Buell enthusiasts. Why shouldn't Buell see if they can benefit from it also.

Hmmm... could have fooled me. Maybe we're behind here in the south but chrome is still king, both in the import and cruiser scene.

BLACK was "IN" in the 70s, 80s and 90s...recall the XLCR, the Night Train, etc.
Some folks should do a li'l research, methinks.
My point is not that Buell shouldn't benefit, but that (although we'd all like to believe otherrwise) we Badwebbers didn't set the tone for Buell's aesthetic decision.
When Buell began using dual mini-headlights/flyscreens I didn't claim they lifted the idea from my scoot.

That being said, however, I certainly add my own applause to the roar supporting Buell's most recent, tasteful metamorph-

We hear ya and yes the blacked out look is nothing new by far.
My point is that there are so many people that black out their Buells that I'd be willing to bet it had some influence on the decision to start blacking out bikes on the line.
If you make a product and a very large section of your customers paint it black don't you think you'd offer it in black?

I bet if there were tons of people painting their Buells green then there would be a green Buell available.

So, actually we're both right... Black is "in", especially with Buell owners.
I believe Buell pays more attention to what is popular with their customers than what is popular with the entire industry. It's both a blessing and a curse, its why they're so unique but it also limits their growth.

While i remain an ardent fan of Buell motorcycles, I have seen no data to support the notion that Buell responds to customer customization trends.
Blacking out of components is de rigeur in many marques, as is the unveiling of a dual-sportmodel. There weren't too many duel-sport Buell twins hitting the scene prior to Buell's unveiling of the Uly.

"I think its the best bunch of "stock" bikes I've ever seen."

"the best" or "the best looking"?

I find several Aprilias, MVs and Ducs more aesthetically appealing, me'se'f...
And as far as "ever seen". I find several Vincents, Crockers and MV Augustas to have been much nicer-looking stockers... not to mention the Norton Manx }

Glad they weren't looking at my bike, or Buell would be painting with rattle cans of truck bed liner and adding the distinct patina of dead bugs. Add a ziplock of dead minnows under the seat (to capture the smell), and I'd sue 'em for ripping off my ideas.

Me thinks I have. XLCR in its day they couldn't give it away. The night train was a so so seller. Now HD has a blacked out version and is very very popular with every model. From there Sportster,V-rod,bagger,Street Bob,Fat Bob and the list goes on that is offered right now. What you have is opinion just like I. But one thing that someone else pointed out is. Is there anything you don't know everything about?? Or do you just believe yourself.
