I agree. Some people live with their heads up their a**. I do a lot of fishing and it makes me sick to see all of the junk people litter. It would be nice to see the police do some anti-litter campaign. The do it for seat belts and other offenses but would love to hear of people getting tickets for being so stupid. Also would like to see a larger push to recycle. Everyone must remember the 3 R's, right?? | ||

I vividly remember that commercial, and the huge impact it had on me (and hopefully others). Andy's right, though - these days a dozen groups would bring lawsuits against it. Damn shame, as it's a powerful way to get an important message across. | ||

I remember those commercials. I do think they helped, made an impression on me. Where we ride our dirtbikes down in homestead, people dump tires, paint cans, trash, burned out stolen cars, more trash....pisses me off. The other day I was thinking that there were enough tires to build one of those earthship houses without having to look beyond the general area for tires to pack full of dirt. They should remake the commercials using actual Native Americans so no one could bitch. We have the "Miccosukee Tribe of Indians" around here. They are pretty involved in the community. Litterbuggery is a pet peeve of mine. I always pick up a few pieces of trash where ever I go so I leave places cleaner than when I got there. Recycle those waste oils too. Riding into work this morning, girl in a car next to me finished the last bite of her banana and tossed the peel out the window on the freeway. As a (trying to quit) smoker, I hate that attitude too, it's really about manners, don't blow smoke in people's faces, don't assume you can just smoke in someone's home or car, don't litter or START FIRES. You know common sense and manners, too bad they are a vanishing breed in general. And do not throw butts into the lake or ocean from your boats people... I am 36, but I remember when we didn't recycle and litter was everywhere. The fact that you are not moved means the campaign was at least partly effective. PS. you live in Mahopac? I only wish that the litter issues of the 1960s and 70s were among our major problems, these days. The commercial should be remade with a continental soldier (Maybe a Washington look-alike) standing over copy of the constitution that's been scribbled on and crossed out. Seeing his once auspicious revolutionary republic reduced into a 21st c. Empire that polices the world would bring a major tear even to the general's eye. | ||

Not that i was totally unmoved, i actually laughed as it reminded me of the episode of the simpsons when Homer was in charge of the garbage, and the Indian at the end was crying. We met once before i think when you were with the Hudson vally crew. The reason you don't see my uly is cause its in bike heaven. I remember that commercial, too, it ran on for years, and it always made my sister cry when it came on. A few years back, I witnessed a real life twist on that commercial, with a happier ending. Roy, a buddy of mine who is a Blackfoot, and a really big dude, was mountain biking with our regular group of psychos out in Waterton, just across the border from Glacier National Park. We were hauling ass down the Akamina Parkway when some wanker threw a bag of garbage out of his car as he passed us. Roy reached down and scooped up the bag off of the road without even slowing down and went after the guy, catching up to him at the bottom of the hill. Roy fired that bag back into the guy's open passenger window and it just exploded, filling the interior with garbage. The driver freaked and jumped out of the car, but as soon as he saw this six foot six, pissed off native coming at him, he jumped back into his car and burned rubber, just as an RCMP Crown Vic came around the corner, busting him on the spot. I'll bet that was the last time THAT guy ever littered! |
