Ive had a few,

One guy came up to me in the bank parking lot - "man that is one badass bike!"

My neighbor asked me if it was mexican ... doh!

One friend, who knows nothing of bikes asked what i rode...

him "what kind of bike do you have?"

me "a buell"

him "yeah, isnt that a honda?"

me "no, its a buell"

him "yeah one of those..." chuckled a little realizing he had no clue what he was talking about

Man,
I know I've done the "What is that? A Buell. Who makes 'em? Buell." thing at least a dozen times.

Came out of a gym in Bethesda, MD. A lot of international folks from the embassies live nearby. When I came out, a couple of German guys who had been working out ahead of me where checking out my X1 Lightning. As I was stuffing my gym gear into the tailbag they continued to point and chat in German like I wasn't there. As I put the key into the ignition one guy said, in heavily accented English, "Your bike?" "Yep" I said. He continued "It must be a pain in the ass"

I thought for a nano-second and was wondering if he meant something like "the seat must be uncomfortable" when I reflexively said with tons of attitude "Why's that?" He went on "Big guy like you on such a little bike" Before I could make a comeback (like reminding him of WW II or something) he asked "Is it a 500cc or a 650?" "Twelve hundred" I said, then "Actually 1203"

"Ach de liebre!" (? spelling) he shouted, started whacking his partner and saying "1200! 1200!" , then going into some more German.

As I stepped forward and swung my leg over the seat he and his friend literally started backing away. "Nice bike" his partner said. They were still standing there when I pulled away, hitting 60 mph before I had to slow for the first stoplight. I could still see them in the mirror - standing there - and pointing.

Last year my dad says to me, after seeing me new '07 9R start up: "I think the timing may be a bit off...., is it supposed to shake like that?"

Some old dude thought my XB12R was a new motocross dirt bike. Other than that, with the rest of my Buells, it's been cool bike, nice pipes or looks fast.

Hey Odinbueller, you sure she wasn't talking about this buell?

I tried to resist, really I did.

By the way, I think Greenlantern won this one. "Either way good luck!" classic.

this was the best post i have ever started. nothing on bad web has made me laugh so much at my desk!

i almost forgot this one. i let my really good freind switch me bikes at a light before we rolled into the bike night. he has a ninja 636. once we get parked and he takes his helmet off, he comes close to me and says real softly---my feet are numb, i started laughing out loud. i will miss the best friends that go to the service!

took my 9S for its first service, & the write-up guy cant find the ignition, then states a headlight is out... Not confidence inspiring!

a guy who has a X1 asked, 'is that the big one or little one'? (9 or 12)

and finally at a auto-parts store a guy asks if its hard to get parts in from France.

It's the first time, I was so proud,

then he asked me what it was, & ruined my mood.

I've had two people ask me if my Uly was a Ducati and my favorite was a guy at my dentist office who told me he used to ride a Beemer just like mine.

i pull up on my bike in 12 degree weather proud as hell of the new CITYX and in a voice very similar to BORAT's he says "this is like girls bike, you buy for wife?"

Never got the "Headlight out" line.

Mine is debadged so I get asked what it is quite a bit.

"Custom brakes, where'd you buy that?"
"Factory"
"I'm sure they came from a factory, who makes them?"
"They're stock, as in came from the factory that built the bike."
or
"Put a Yoshi pipe on it and you should be about done then huh?"
"Why would I wanna do that?"
"Most powerful pipe on the market... Back pressure... Emissions..."
"Its got a muffler on the bottom to keep a low center of gravity. Specifically tuned and made for this bike to offer maximum output without sacrificng power for torque or vica versa."
"Yea but my Yoshi pipe sounds better, than some tin muffler."
**Started the 9R, slowly brought it up to 3k and blipped the throttle and let back to ide**
"Yoshi dont make thunder like that."

John is my immediate supervisor, and has a metric cruiser. As an aside, the longer he has it, and the more he changes it, the more it looks like an 883 Hugger.

Anyway, last summer we had a stunning, low 70's day w/clear sky, ect. Went to the post office, and John and a friend were sitting across the street like turtles on a log, soaking up sun. Got done at the post office, and they were still sitting. Rode over to them, and ragged on John a little about sitting, not riding. He made a comment about my not having a "real" bike. A woman on the sidewalk (!!!!) heard his comment and said "Hey, that's a Buell. It's made by Harley, it's more of a real bike than yours is!." I looked a John, said "When she's right, she's right" and rode off.

Not two days ago I was riding from work to my karate club. I was @ a light in the right lane waiting for it to turn green. In the left lane pulls up 3 Harleys, (two electra Glides and a Fat Boy). The one closest to me nods, but the one on the outside looks @ me laughs and blips his throttle...THE MAN HAD STOCK PIPES and he says.. This is what a Real bike sounds like, that isn't from JAPAN!... so I glance at his and hit 3K w/ my Special Ops and said... This one was made in Wisconsin... he was dumbfounded...

the guy next to me just laughed and said "Nice Firebolt, my son-in-law has one..." I said thanks and was on my way..

Haha - my boss has only seen pictures of my bike (his office in is PA and I'm in NY), and he always calls my bike a rice rocket, no matter how many times I tell him differently.

I can't wait to get a nice enough day to ride down there for a meeting and let him hear it.

My daughter and I went to the car wash to hose off the Cyclone. We were in the front half of the pressure wash stall and a old black springer pulled into the back stall. The guy was a fairly authentic looking biker with a long grey hair and a huge grey beard. He was pretty friendly. He said,"Nice day to be out for a ride," and he told my 7 year old daughter that he liked her helmet. I was just finishing up and he was still trying to get his sprayer to take the quarters.

As soon as I fired it up he really looked over at my bike for the first time. He walked right over crouched down and started looking at it. He sounded like a total surfer or something... 100% SoCal.

Duuude! That's a Buuuuuuell! Coooool bike man! Coooool color! (orange and grey)

He wanted to know how fast it was and how it handled. He told me all the stuff he had done to his springer to make it faster. It was only about a 2 minute conversation but it was pretty cool.

Later on my daughter thought it was totally funny that he kept calling us DUUUUUUUDE!

Now every time my daughter sees the Cyclone she says, "CEWLLLLL BIIIIKE DUUUUDE!"

I have only had it since September, but I haven't heard a negative comment about it yet.

Bill

I can really see why there is the label American Motorcycles under the marque.

I thought about taking Am. MC part off, but then got some of the similar questions, "Is that Ducati?"

My dad calls my M2 a 'crotch rocket'.

I was at my local Harley - Buell dealer today, and under a tent sale set up in front of the store was a AAA booth selling insurance.

They were offering a free atlas with a quote, so I went to talk to the representative.

He asked me, "What kind of motorcycle do you have?"

I answered, " A Buell S3 ".

He gave me a questioning look and exclaimed " Uh, what is a Buell, how do you spell it?"

I pointed at a Ulysees parked about 5 feet from where I was standing and said to him " Just spell it like it is spelled on the tank here."

Unbelievable.
