I hear ya, Neil. I used to constantly dwell on the negative. Didnt keep many friends and life wasnt as good as it is now...Go figure.
By the way, ya'll...I bought the winning lotto ticket today (I just KNOW it!), so as soon as I collect my $millions$, youre all invited to the Gap for a weekend on me at my newly acquired resort.
where are they located at In the first pic, that's Lake Tahoma. I used to live just south of the dam. The road is Buck Creek. A must do if you're ever in the area. The second is just zoomed out to see the other roads in the area. I love it there. I say Little Switzerland (area,) or 221 from Blowing Rock to the bottom. 221 is just as good as 129 and it has zero LEO presence. 181 from Morganton to the BRP is awesome too, but it's a higher speed run with plenty big long sweepers. I love the ride up to Spruce Pine. Back before this HillBilly moved to the big city, Ann and I lived in North Cove.
For those that are curious as to Little Switzerland and North Cove are. North Cove is in the lower right part of the pic, and Little Switzerland is all that twistie goodness in the upper left. Type in either place North Cove, NC or Lake Tahoma, or Spruce Pine, NC into Google Earth, explore a little, and soon you'll be lusting for the life of a HillBilly.
Glitch, We stayed at Bear Den on the parkway, just outside of Spruce Pine, during the riding the ridge event.Your quite right, killer roads in that neck of the woods!
that's why i think that although the roads have a lot to offer out in northern california and the scenary is unbelievable, i just don't want to live on the west coast. just want to visit. i love living in this area.
Awesome place Glitch. I've said before I discovered Buck Creek Gap Road in a cage about 25 years ago, and it's one of the coolest roads I've ever ridden.
If you ever find yourself in the Blowing Rock area 221 is an absolute must. Tight, twisty, no LEOs. 181 from just north of Morganton all the way to the top is top shelf, great pavement, low traffic, more LEO than 221.
I'm still dealing with my lifetime ban on Little Switzerland -- I kind of skip around the edges
IMHO the resort isn't worth $7,000,000 But that's not considering the house on the lake. Not at all interested in the lake house, but it's a package deal. Maybe my sights ought to be more towards Little Switzerland, and try to get the Big Daddy ban lifted...
Ain't got nuthin against WV, just a bit too far north for my tastes. With a venture like a Moto-Resort you'd want to be as close as year round as possible. Small and let it grow is a good thing as well. So is (and I do hate this word) diversity, you'd want to appeal to as many tourists as possible. That's one reason Deals Gap is for sale, weather they say it's over schools or not. It's a fact that the THP have had a negative affect towards the motorcyclist dollars being spent. A major reason I'm not interested in the lake house. The lake house would be too much added loaned money. I'd bet they could sell, or at the very least have more people seriously interested if the lake house wasn't included.
It would be interesting to see the financials of the package. You've got a running business, business related property, personal residence, probably some inventory, various levels of goodwill factored in.
There might be ways to factor in some new amenities such as a Killboy photo kiosk of some sort if they'd be willing to buy into or license that. Also other options such as licensing it as a training facility of some sort.
Probably the first thing I'd do is a comparable property search for residential/vacation property nearby and see what those have been going for. Then add on the business aspects to it.
Lots of options to think about. But, yeah, $7mil is up there. How many acres does it have with it?
Hey look at T.W.O. -- a single wide for rent, a few lodge rooms, tent space, lots of porch and great food surrounded by good roads. It doesn't have to big, just inviting.
I can imagine Deals Gap is a major PITA to manage. It's a hotel, a restaurant, a gas station, and a motorcycle apparel/accessories store. ANY of those could be a full-time job. T.W.O. seems like it'd be a lot less stress to operate.
Glitch, what are you gonna call your new motorcycle resort at Little Switzerland?
+1 Kristi... I think Id rather have a property like TWO than the Gap. Amazing roads, minimal traffic, BEAUTIFUL surroundings...and that dang tasty Dale's "breakfast bar"!
I wonder if Britt and GT are looking to adopt? LOL
How much ebay sales does Deals Gap do with their gear? A couple of local bicycle shops are doing pretty good with their ebay stores. Deals Gap paraphernalia should do good, probably do better if it was spelled right. (Hmph, made it past the speller chekerer, good guess perhaps.[note to self: buy Powerball ticket on the way home today]
Let me know how that goes. Also, I'd recommend that you not use my real name --death by association
On a more serious note (the above is serious and you won't catch me in LS!) there's some prime locations in that area and all those folks making the trek to 129 would give it up once they rode the area and realized that there's no LEO pressure. The 226 run from Spruce Pine to A'ville is an absolute thrill ride too,,,,forgot all about that one.
Hey, there you go. Glitch needs to set up a virtual "Glitcherland"/ebay store and start raking in the sales for Glitcherland merchandise. When he's got enough dough, he can actually purchase ~10 acres at Little Switzerland and build the real place.
OK, what's the catchy slogan for Glitcherland? We need something equivalent to "318 curves in 11 miles".
I'd recommend that you not use my real name --death by association There's always a good run up Linville Gorge. That way we don't have to hide our faces when we take off our helmets!
Linville Falls is my favorite spot on the entire planet FWIW. I like it in the spring, summer, fall, but most of all in the dead of winter when the touri are hibernating.
That gas station just north of Ginger Cake is sitting vacant,,,,big joint it is with a grill and gas pumps. Glitchster Land could HQ right there Just south of the BRP and 221.
