Left saddlebag inner cracked, just like the right one last year. I noticed it in the middle of Vermont. I guess they can only be used on the bike when ridden on the (non-existant) absolutely smmoooth roads. There goes my cash for the 20th trip.

Fiberglass repair kit, less than $10.00 and you are back riding again.

JBM- I thought they were plastic or "resin" as it's sometimes called. I never had any luck with fiberglas kits used on that, especially at a stress point.

What about a shop that has a plastic welder, if its the inner part of the bag then you should not see it.

I had my sons Honda 50 plastic fenders welded after it took a spill and it worked out real good.

I seriously doubt you'll have any luck with a plastic welding kit on the saddlebags.

After making the repairs described in the location Kinger mentioned, I beat the living shit out of the bags on some pretty hairy dirt roads and goat paths up in Oregon. Held up just fine.

The fiberglass repair is half of the fix..I'll see if I can get the other half posted in the next day.

Ok, the $64k question...

If I spring the $350 for the (TWICE superceded) "new & improved" saddlebag inner:
a) Is it LESS likely to break?
b) Do I have to replace the cover (`98 S3T)?

Now back to the curse & rant, one of the reasons I bought the bike is because it had SADDLE BAGS. Shouldn't I expect to be able to USE them? Am I being unreasonable? (This is the third inner that has cracked the same way, all new parts on my dime. Calls to customer service yielded no real help - and I was firm but polite. I haven't called on this one - yet...)
BadWeb has helped me solve almost all the little problems with my bike, without this resource Buell ownership would have been a nightmare instead of the (mostly) joy that it is. If I really have to spend $150 MORE - that's a weeks pay or a new rear tire - and a couple of days labour to reengineer/remanufacture something I have already paid for 2 1/2 times, ok, but it's still pretty lame.

Oz,
I can't tell you if you can get pre-99 inner bags or not, Buell will have to answer that. BUT, if they can't, then yes, your pre-99 outers won't fit 99 inners. I know the hinges are totally different, but I'm not sure if that's the only difference. I don't think it is, I think there are some profile differences at the mating edges of the inner and outer bag.

The cam latches are better on the 99 and up innners. I lost a 98 saddlebag somewhere near Tahoe with the less than positive locking 98 style retainer. That said, the 98 latches will work, but do check them for tightness often.

Will the 99 and up inners be less likely to crack? Sadly, no. Doing the fiberglass reinforcing will, IMHO, change that. It's an afternoons work, but worth it if you really want to use the bags. Buell really screwed the pooch on the S3 bags. And yes, it's VERY lame. But they do look pretty good when mounted :)

I called BCS. Cathy told me that the NEW part WILL fit my old cover. (Z0718.B, new - 91253-97Y, old) Also, my bike is so "old" that there is very little info in the system about it (- it's still under warranty) What are they going to do if I break something that IS under warranty?

Well, that seems strange, the hinges between the 98 and 99 bags most definitely changed. Maybe they just have a new part number for the new inners drilled for the 98 hinge vs the 99 hinge. Dunno. But sounds like good news anyway. If your old ones are cracked up beyond repair, and you buy new ones, I would HIGHLY recommend fiberglassing them before they break. They WILL break otherwise, just a matter of time.

I got a 33% pay cut today!!!

The advertising agency I work for has been going through very rough times for the last two years. Two years ago there were 90 employees. There are now 5 full-time and 3 part-time employees left! I was lucky for awhile and I've obviously known that the ship was sinking but I guess it's time I got off my ass and started working on my resume and job searching.

Well, I'll have some more free time anyway. I only have to work 25 hours a week now!

Found this - thought it would chear ya up! An oldie but a goodie!

Be patient. It does have a moral;

In the dead of summer a fly was resting on a leaf beside a lake. A hot,
dry fly who said to no one in particular, "Gosh, if I go down three
inches,
I will feel the mist from the water and I will be refreshed."

There was a fish in the water thinking, "Gosh, if that fly goes down
three inches I can eat him."

There was a bear on the shore thinking, "Gosh, if that fly goes down
three inches, that fish will jump for
the fly, and I will eat him."

It also happened that a hunter was farther up the bank of the lake
preparing to eat a cheese sandwich.

"Gosh," he thought, "if that fly goes down three inches, and that fish
leaps for it, that bear will expose himself and grab for the fish.
I'll shoot the bear and then have a proper trophy."

You probably think this is enough activity for one bank of a lake, but
I can tell you there was more.

A wee mouse by the hunter's foot was thinking, "Gosh, if that fly goes
own three inches, and that fish jumps for that fly, and that bear grabs
for that fish, the dumb hunter will shoot the bear and drop his
cheese sandwich."

A cat lurking in the bushes took in this scene and thought, as was
fashionable to do on the banks of this particular lake around lunch
time,
"Gosh, if that fly goes down three inches, and that fish jumps for that
fly, and that bear grabs for that fish, and that hunter shoots that
bear, and that mouse makes off with the cheese sandwich,
then I can have mouse for lunch."

The poor fly is finally so hot and so dry that he heads down for the
cooling mist of the water,

The fish swallows the fly,

The bear grabs the fish,

The hunter shoots the bear,

The mouse grabs the cheese sandwich,

The cat jumps for the mouse,

The mouse ducks, and

The cat falls into the water and drowns.

Now the moral of the story is:

Whenever a fly goes down three inches, some pussy is probably in
danger!

Yeah, I know that worm knocked our entire DSL off line yesterday. My internet explorer is malfunctioning also since my hard drive got re-installed...the pages do not load fully and I can't send or recieve attachments over hotmail. Is anyone here an expert in this shit? I do not feel like paying Microsoft to call them and have them put me on hold to try to fix it...

Arg. I was going to post here and complain earlier this week when I pulled my XB12 race kit out of the box and discovered shipping damage on the muffler but decided against it. Now I really have something to complain about.

I talked to my sales manager today about when my XB12R is going to show up (we have two XB12S models). He said the first Racing Red XB12R we get will not ship until September 26th. That's 6 weeks from now. Figure shipping time and it may be October before I even get to see my new bike. I sold my Cyclone the 2nd week of July, so that means I'll have gone nearly 3 months without a bike.

I am thoroughly bummed. I was even pre-approved for the loan.

Update on Newfies ride home !! So I'm quoting Newfie !!

"FUCK, SHIT, DAMN" !!!

He made it to his Aunt's house in Acton, Ontario (about 45 minutes west of Toronto) and his right rear isolater looks like it was pulled out, chewed up, and spit back in !!

He's mobile, and wants to know if it's possible that he could ride it 2,000 km to make it back home ???

Oz666, you have e-mail with information to contact him regarding help !!

Get this, Newfie got charged $100 (can) EACH for replacement isolators. I have a kit & I am checking locally to verify but MY understanding is Z0010.CB=$46.40, contains TWO isolators, a new beltguard, new hardware and fits all models. Newfie thinks he can make it here and I will give him a hand.

Good to hear that Newfie's got Oz to help, and James has Daves, now if I could get an update on Char and Bear we'd be on a roll !!

Saturday night they made it safely to Lexington, and mid-day Sunday they were on the way to NC and everything was going as planned !!

So if someone (Bubba?) knows anything or if I know Char she'll get to a computer somehow and post her status ???
