That one great piece of journalism. I think we are going to see more 1125 based bikes before we see another water cooled displacement. "I think the powertrain (1125R) you have experienced it on the road, and it's a great powertrain. BMW has a line 650's (F650) and a line 800's (F800). Both dirt and street configuration. An 800cc Buell GS would a great bike! Just read the article in Motorcycle Daily that was posted. Not to vague is it. Remember the dirt bike Buell was playing with about a year or so ago. Maybe it will be back. Who knows? I know the Shadow knows? Ok let me trot out my Daddy's favorite expression: Let's see... the "T" version, the "Nekkid" version, the "Low" version, the "Racer version" the "dual sport" version... Let's start adding displacement differences, bore/stroke... super motards, dirt bikes. GEEEEZ! Do any of us really realize how FEW people there really are at Buell - ??? Huh??? Think their product evelopment "department" can deploy say, a few dozen folks to develop some of these concept bikes??? Meanwhile continue working on producing the 1125R - plus the entire XB line and the Blasts. Piece of cake - Buell MoCo - get TO IT! RRRRriiiiiiiight!! It's freaking miraculous that they can put out the stuff that they DO put out given the very few folks they have on staff! | ||

What do you think would be the advantage downsizing the 1125 motor? Probably not enough weight savings to be significant.. Lower Insurance rates? Smaller rad pods? your thoughts???? What would be the advantage over the A C motor? | ||

Possibly some countries where there's a 1000cc tier for taxation or something like that. That was my impression of why the 900 was built, period. Reduce displacement to, say, 998cc so more sales theoretically possible? Especially in countries where association with H-D is more of a hindrance than a help. | ||

What do you think would be the advantage downsizing the 1125 motor? Why have 600's? Why not all liter bikes? Smaller displacement bikes tend to be lighter, better off road, and are generally more nimble on road. Air-cooled bikes are fine, but are not nearly as light. The power to weight ratio for a GS or Shiver version of the 72* V-Twin would be attractive for both street and off-road alike. Plus, I already have an air-cooled. | ||

Yeah, I don't see the too much point in making a downsized water-cooled engine at least not any time soon. If you don't need the extra hp or can't afford insurance then stick with the XB line. However, I could see a need for a 1000cc or smaller water cooled bike if the XB12R is ever discontinued. | ||

I do find it strange that the XB9R went BY BY. Only the City-X is left with the smaller motor now. The Blast is only in the Spec part on the sale book I have. Looks the 1125 is going to be the top dog with the XB12R left for the "Old School" guys and of course the S models and Uly. Who really knows! I mean besides Court! And he won't talk I bet...even for all the Fried Okra in the world. Yes I want his book when it hits the rack. | ||

Buying smaller displacement bikes isn't just about "not being able to handle the power" or "wanting cheaper insurance rates". I am really interested in the 690 Duke. Riding a slower bike fast is sometimes a more rewarding experience than riding a more powerful bike. Deal's Gap is a prime example where faster bikes are not necessarily better. Passed a few 'Busas on the Uly. Wrong tool for the job. Wanna be humbled? Just wait until you work your ass off to catch that 125/250cc Supermoto that just passed you like you were parked.......and can't. If I lived in Kansas, I'd want an 1800cc drag bike. Here, I want the lightest good handling bike I can get. Imagine 90-100HP with the same flat torque curve the 1125R has in an S wrapper with the short wheelbase, Benelli TnT side pods, Speed Triple bikini front fairing, shortened mono-posto rear. I'd like mine in black on black on black, please. | ||
