Concerning "Retro" bikes, perhaps it is time for HD to update the Sportster Cafe Racer they failed with once before.

Again, with all the production benefits mentioned in my previous post, HD just might pick up the business lost by the Norton and Vincent clone manufacturers that fell by the wayside. Not to mention the Retro bikes coming from Ducati and Triumph.

Remember it was both the high retail price caused by manufacturing start up costs that killed them and like the Street Tracker, HD has already been there.

HD's only real Faux Pas was that their timing was off. They were at least 10 years ahead of the demand for the Retro Look.

Back then, the market then was looking for an American Sport Bike to compete with the world market.

Now that Buell has pursued that market niche, the Retro market is wide open for HD and we all know how well HD does Retro with modern technology.

A well spec'ed Cafe Racer would be really cool. I love Ducati's sport classics.

Just wondering if I should order my white leathers with or without the cape.
With! of course!
Talking about retro...
If H-D comes out with an Evel Edition, I'll buy one.

What were they thinking with that exhaust system? It goes under the bike. For me that ruins the bike. Even scrambler pipes would look better.

If you go to the official website: http://www.xrdna.com and take their survey, one of the things it asks you is if you think anything needs work on the bike. One of the choices is "exhaust system", which I'd expect means they aren't real happy with the way it looks either. The high mount pipes like on the Storz XR1200 would be a vast improvement.

Took the survey, MAN, is that the best shift linkage they could think of?

Don't they even talk to the Buell guys?

Exhaust pipe, at least make it a two-into-one, I'm sure the aftermarket will get a fix out for that in no time.

Lose the rear seat cushion.

I would definitely buy one, if I didn't already have an M2. As it is...naah.

Pipes are no big deal. You can have them fabricated anywhere and the aftermarket will probably pick up on the demand.

Wish the White Leathers and Cape were that easy to acquire.

He landed well...most of the time.
Just think of how well he would have done with a modern bike with modern suspension.
Evel, mostly had a wing and a prayer, he was a true dare devil.

The Storz is a cool bike, but HD didn't have to ask them, they did it first.

The Storz headers/pipes look a LOT better to me than H-D's version.

Hard to carry a passenger with high pipes.
They do look 10 times better though.
They should offer them with the high pipes as a solo only bike

That's an accurate statement.

Buying THAT bike to carry passengers is like buying a 1968 Buick Vista Cruiser to troll for chicks. Wrong weapon.

Court,

Did you drive a Vista Cruiser in High School? Hey, I drove an orange 1970 Volkswagon Squareback. I'd have traded you in a heartbeat! Gotta love that air-cooled fuel injected engine though. : D

No Sportster will ever look better than the XR1000.

As for Evo's, a black XLX61 looked pretty good.

>>>Did you drive a Vista Cruiser in High School?

No.

I parachuted (or tried) from one.

Note to self......
  • it is neigh on impossible to parachute from a Buick
  • Alcohol, apparently, doesn't help
  • To TRULY appreciate what 30 MPH is you must PERSONALLY pass a phone pole while "flying"
  • Landing is an important part of flying

The "Buick Experiment" provided me with the only broken bones I've ever had in my life.

Interesting Sidebar: Oddly enough, 28 days later if that cast hadn't been on my right leg, I'd be a one legged guy these days. I lost some good chucks of bone from the gunshot but had the cast not been there, I'd have lost the leg from the knee.

I love Buicks.

: )

Life is funny sometimes huh?

I drove a 1968 Javelin SST, then a 1974 Hornet X, then a 1965 Mustang and a 1980 Mustang.
I rode a 1974 Kawasaki 400 Triple and a 1973 900Z1
