There is, or was, a kit to install the cable on all tubers. I have one on my 99 X1 and my 95 S2. I donít know whether they were stock on any year. The dealer installed the one on my X1 so it may have been a service bulletin. Sorry I donít have specifics. : (

Early X1 models had just the screw. There was a bulletin which offered a software update and the installation of the remote adjuster cable. I can check but I believe it was prior to the release of the 2001 models.
Do you need a cable?

Pull the tank, it's zip tied over on the L/H side somewhere weird.
You want to get it out in the open on the R/H side where you can adjust it when the bike is cold.

As weird as the location looks, it falls right to hand when seated on the bike (once you get used to it.) I use it more than one might expect, turn it up while idling in the morning, then back it down while waiting at a stop light once it gets warmed up good. It's much easier to use while seated than finding a small knob on the carburetor. The carb access was pretty much blocked anyway by the big Helmholz box that came on the bike.

When they were assembled the idle adjuster cable was zip tied somewhere underneath the tank pointing to the left hand side.
The only way to access it was to take off the tank.
That's what Odd was dealing with.
