I know this has been gone over many ,many times.I think I have a couple of hours of just reading the different threads.I know about heating the kickstand and bending a little and such.I did run across a mention of using a kickstand from a Jap bike but I've look again and can't find any mention of it.If anybody has any information could you please enlighten me on the details.And yes I know that the heating and bending is the easiest,but I like to know the options. Currently working on two solutions - one that modifies the original side stand by adding an adjustment feature, and another that replaces the sidestand but still uses the original side plate. A few weeks away on both. I've seen the bending idea work well too. | ||

Bartimus I'm aware of the bend but I remember reading also about an R1 or a CB kickstand could also be used but know I can't seem to find any mention of it when I search. Screamer I'll be interested in what your solutions are when they are finish | ||

I designed a full set of plates for this bike that uses later model kickstands that correct the lean angle and bring the kickstand forward, over center, to lick it in place with spring tension. But it was expensive... I am in the final steps of a 2nd option!!! Photos possibly tonight!!! | ||

Dave, I was moving my S2 around the garage last weekend (building shelves) and smiled to myself as I put the kickstand up and down. Thanks so much for putting that buy together. What a great upgrade.  | ||

It looks like my S2 (#1365) is totalled due to a cracked and nearly broken off steering head (thanks, Bambi). I have THE last set of the original sideplates, from American Sportbike, on it. These are the style that Jolly based his production run on. They're likely going on the block along with other stuff I can't use in my S3 Defender resurrection...gonna have to a) heal myself first, and b) get the bike home and start disassembly to get a true inventory of "yeah, I need that" and "those are for sale". Gonna be a shit-ton of S2 stuff hitting the classifieds when I do that. Not just "the bike", but also the workshop full of spares. | ||

The plates I had made were different, with subtle upgrades from the very first upgrade plates run, there is a very long story full of details on how they came to be, how I tracked them down, with the help of folks from here, and how the set I had made came to be... unfortunately, they were very expensive, but worked very well...but...were very expensive... I've long thought that maybe a more "price conscious" option that still worked as well could be worked out. the problem is that these are huge and the dimensional piece of aluminum it takes to turn into a plate is considerable, and you turn a lot of billet block into chips..its a time and material problem for sure!! people have tried different things like bending the kickstand, or filling the pocket of the lug with JB Weld to change the internal design. all are good ideas and work for the folks that get it right, however, there is still a considerable flaw in the design, the kickstand is at the wrong angle, and it does not come forward past 90 degrees, so it is basically "spring loaded" (literally) to retract.... I came up with this other option quite some time ago, but it just took a lot of time to get it to this point, remember, I've just retired from the USAF, moved, and returned to civilian flying and had to relearn 3 different jets in min time... and my 3 yr old daughter gets all of my free time and attention!!! The whole kickstand and lug set up is the problem...so I decided to remove it... (I can hear some applause already, and some groans), remember, if yo are bending the kickstand you are already modifying the bike, so you might as well go for it and fix it!! Then (working with an extremely talented machinist who is a well known Buelligan...!!) I had this piggy-back design worked up. I sourced a pretty beat up side plate quite some time ago just for this project. We started with a 3D printed version for mock up, worked through a few versions to get to what looked right and fit correctly.. this design uses the same bolt holes that go through the plate and into the frame and then you drill a 3rd hole to get a triangle bolt design for rigidity.. 3D print for mock up...  Ive just received the billet design, and had the broken rear set up of the donor plate cut down (this is not required, it was just broken off in an accident I would guess so I had it cut off) this is a little early as I just took them out of the box and started taking photos, I will get it mounted for better photos hopefully some time this week.    by going with the piggy back version, the cost is significantly cheaper yet retains full functionality of what the full side plate offered. | ||

Zero problems, zero concerns since I cold bent mine. Its nice to be able to warm up the bike on the stand while gearing up and not worry about it "walking off" the freakin stand anymore.  | ||

You can relicate the sidestand of any tuber up to the case. Issues that can arise is 1- stress on the case abd seal if not supported correctly, 2- the stand may interfere with your shifter foot. A cbr900rr kickstand with one hole welded up and redrilled about 1/4” out will work. I used a firebomt stand. Either way I recommend welding a tab on the bottom to add support under the case also. All in all Jolly has a great mod that just bolts on!! Great work. Looks like Purponies work.  | ||

It is S2 signature. Love its look leaning way much. Just put it in 1st gear when leaving. It works up the hill, down the hill, even Hurricane can't flip. | ||

Hey Dave, I’m still interested in that plate as well as the S1W fatbar adapters. I stirred up a thread on Facebook and sent them to your fatbar thread. A few others have come forward to get the orders up. If you look in a Cycle world, I think it’s 1996 when the prototype s1 was showcased, it showed the kickstand on the two larger primary cover bolts. However, the story is that it created leaks, so they moved it to the frame instead. That was supposedly with paper gaskets. The rubber coated metal gaskets of today “may” not be an issue. | ||

Found some time to get this mounted today... lean angle matches the lean angle of the plates I had made, which is very close to an S1. later, when I have time again, I will get this parked next to one of my S1 bikes for a side by side photo. kick stand folds up tightly without interfering with the rear axle, when extended it comes well forward of 90 degrees so that the spring is pulling it (locking it) forward. the block has a channel for both forward (extended) and retracted positions. when I can get these to production I will move this to its own thread as this started with more of a general topic on kickstands, and I took the discussion point as an answer to the question of "how to fix"...        | ||

Terrible/Johnod THANKS! yeah that's the hangar I now call an office, my second office is a window with a view at 43,000 ft! here a re a few photos to compare to an S1 for lean angle.... this photo is the lean angle with my full side plates:  this photo is the lean angle with the piggy back plate:  both the full plate and the piggy back plate are the same to an S1 lean angle, with over-center spring tension holding the kickstand forward like it should....   | ||

I’m definitely doing a run, purpony and I are working out the per unit cost. We’ve been working on this for a while, both our schedules have been hectic, but this is what I have been trying to get ready to show at the “S2 gathering”... We need a few days to sort unit pricing. Somebody should do a run of S2T footpeg lowering brackets...I know I can supply a left (shifter) side bracket as a template, but I think my right side got ground off in the wreck. | ||

I think I had a file created for those too, I’ll have to confirm, but I distinctly remember borrowing a set, then sending them back, but it was during my move so I’m a little foggy on details... but I really think I have a file with “my machinist”..... |
