What would you guys consider to be a modern day S3T if it were to be still in production & development? To me the 8 valve Guzzi Norge seems the closest and has lots of practical features without being an over bloated tank. Do any of you guys own one or have ridden one? Anything else & why? | ||

I like Moto Guzzi, but never owned one. I road one did not feel anything like a Buell it felt to me like a tractor it had a funny feeling at low speed where it had a funny east west direction shake i put it down to direction flywheel turns, did not have same Torque as Buell and was heavy. the one i road was two valve. i think the sports with bags would be closest but none can really be the same different design, very very old. | ||

I own 3 Guzzis and really like riding them!! Beautiful bikes! 2002 Moto Guzzi Lemans with Hepko Becker bags 2000 Moto Guzzi V11 sport 1997 Moto Guzzi 1100 sport I have ridden the Norge and it's a true "gentlemens express" very nice bike, not high end HP, but it has what it needs, really like it! Once you head down the Guzzi path..... You'll never be the same!! | ||

One of my old Guzzi buddies has a Norge which he calls the Refrigerator. The S3 is a fairly light motorcycle with a low center of gravity, his Norge is top heavy and weighs a ton. His had a boat load of problems but I think that they finally all got sorted out. Not too many real sport tourers in production at the moment - BMW and maybe some Japanese? | ||

To be more accurate, you asked about a MODERN day comparison to the S3T, my Moto Guzzi LeMans is the same year as the last year for a S3T (2002), so technically its really not a modern version...however the Le Mans was built I think until maybe 2006(?)so kind of a more modern version, and there were special editions that had ohlins suspension.. the Norge is a true to eclectic form like the Buell as it gets in the Italian family. I like the Norge as it fits me and my riding style very well, I do think it would benefit from a few improvements, like inverted forks, and few things like that, however, its a very nice riding bike. they don't have superbike performance, but then, its not a superbike. they ride and handle well, and few of the Guzzi family bikes always seem to have a few little "idiosyncrasies" that need to be dialed in...or out.. but they are great running bikes, and full of soul and character. They do have a left to right torque pull from the flywheel, much like a boxer motor does. I have three of them and would love to add three more: Norge Daytona 1000 Griso but I have no idea how to find spare cash or spare space to park that many more bikes...... a true modern day comparison bike might be the Motus, if you have an extra 30K plus (not sure what actual pricing is today, when I was looking they were originally pushing the 30K line and then they did some design changes and sourcing changes that brought the price down but I'm not sure what final market price is) sitting around...but BEAUTIFUL sport touring bike! you could always go with a Ducati ST3 if you're looking for something with flair and style... Personally, at my age, (pushing 50...) I would love to see a new version of a sport tour bike from EBR as they get things rolling again. the last thing I need in my garage is another hyperfast knees to elbows bike as I simply really don't ride like that anymore. I would love to contribute to EBR thorugh the purchase of a bike, and accept the initial risk if they would build what I want to ride. my thoughts, they are chasing a market of riders that are entrenched in the fab 4 Japanese or the high end euro market and going to have a difficult time pulling riders from that class whose number one concern is how fast does it go, and number two concern is whether or not their friends will be riding one as well as most of them are into motorcycle for the group think... they need to reach out to the population of riders that are more open to different market options and find what they (we?) want to ride, build that bike and the other market as well..... so for me the perfect modern day version of a Buell S3T would be... a Buell sport tour class bike along the lines of the Motus but at more affordable pricing.... I've been following the Motus thing for years. I was pretty excited when they finally arrived. Then I saw the price. Too bad for me. Would love to try one though. It makes a great sound going down the road in the videos I've seen. | ||

The MotoGuzzi 1100 Sport is gorgeous! That Motus could have been a twin cylinder and be just as good, but a little simpler. Maybe it would look too much like a Guzzi or Honda CX500? | ||

I tried to find a photo of just the 1100 sport but all I can find is one of the v11 sport and the 1100 sport nose to nose... the 1100 sport was one of those "I just have to have it", well it was the only one I had ever seen for sale with the solo tail....I've had thoughts of changing it from the mustard yellow to a nice Italian red...but I just haven't gotten to it yet... the fluorescent electric green v11 sport is a ton of fun to ride as well!  | ||

I replaced my '02 S3T with a Kawasaki Concours 14. It is a fabulous motorcycle!! Yes, heavier than the S3T, but has more power, and does touring duty better, and doesn't lack anything on the sport side IMHO.  | ||

Great to read the different perspectives, glad I raised the topic. I haven't ridden a Norge or a Motus but I like them both, especially in black. However, 30K USD and it comes with a chain final drive? Even if I had the $$ that would put me off the Motus. I like the simplicity & quirkiness of the later model Norge and they are good value in the used market here in NZ (when available) I've ridden a Guzzi V11 sport exactly the same as Jolly's. Exhaust note on rpm over-run was addictive. For the moment though, my S3T & S1Ws still inspire me enough to keep riding them. (Message edited by 2003xb9r on April 19, 2016) | ||

I bought an S3 because I couldn't think of anything modern (5 years old or less) that was the equivalent  Honestly, I'm pretty alienated by newer bikes. I have no use for ride modes or traction control or DCT transmissions. | ||

How about a BMW 1200RS or a slightly older 1200ST?   I always ignored BMW's until I bought a higher mileage used one specifically for a trip to the West coast and back. I was planning on unloading it as soon as I got back. Then I hit the mountains. After that, I was sold. I've put over 100k miles on them in the past 10 years and haven't found anything better for the type of riding I do. The RS is a new model, and more than I would ever spend on a bike, but a quick test ride last fall still has it dancing in my dreams. The ST is a bit of a rare bird as they were only made for a few years and didn't sell well. Its ugly, but its a fantastic sport tourer. As far as the electrical nannies......I think you are going to be hard pressed to find anything without them going forward. Hell, even the new Triumph Bonneville's have ABS and throttle by wire. I'm sure traction control is only a few years behind. The old days of relying on skill and luck are almost gone  | ||

I vote for the Triumph Sprint ST, have had 3 of the 955 models and then a 1050 Tiger. All were great bikes. Never once had a fuel injection issue with these bike. Sold the Tiger when I was having hip issues. Have since bought a 2015 Yamaha FJ-09---really nice !! | ||

My first long weekend to Belgium on my Dad's 74' moto guzzi v7 850 gt was fun! We had shit weather the whole weekend ,and broke a throttle wire in the middle of the Ardennes on sunday morning. Lucky me had put a spare bicycle brake wire into the toolbox.
