OK, what am I missing here?

I admit I am new to Tubers - I've only had my S2 for half a year or so - but have always wanted to get my hands on a Westwind.

The few I have seen come up for sale all seem near-perfect and expensive. And since I love restorations, a project bike that is actually restorable would be perfect.

So I see this one come up for sale on eBay last month and doesn't even reach $3,000. Now its on Craigslist for $4,500 which seems reasonable to me. So why no takers? Just because its missing the Gambler rear brake?

Let me see...

re-painted
no rear caliper
looks ABUSED/neglected (see all the rusty bits)
seems to be missing other parts (windscreen, tail light lens, coverings for the seat "hinge", etc)
not THAT rare (compared to something like the RSS)

I'm guessing that you'd need to drop a few bucks (if you can find the parts).

It needs to be and deserves to be saved. The previous owner did more damage than good in the attempts to restore / maintain it. It would still be a very good candidate for making a rare and unusual rider out of. The price is about $1000-1500 too high to get anybody to take it on. In five years, people will look back at these posts and either laugh or cry over not having bought it.

I know a guy who was buying RR1000s for $5-6K before the market turned.

I agree lake look at the deep parts the alum is heavily oxidized the up front parts have been cleaned for apeareance but this bike will need a serious go through. But that said if someone with the knowledge got it there is a good start there

What Jeff & Ken said...^^^

I talked to him several times, he is not budging on the price.

2k - $2500 It would be in my garage already.

She needs a lot of work, time & $$ to properly restore, the body is not OEM.

SORRY I meant to type Greg^^

That is a lot of corrosion.
I would wager the windshield turned to crap from being left in the sun for 85 years in the back yard or something.
I bet that thing was full of mouse nests!

Just revisited the CL listing. Missed the coffee can full of "Buell Screws". That sealed the deal for me. I'm buying it!!

I was never a fan of Tubers. I even was reported to say that they are even "kinda ugly".

That is until I was blessed to be able to own one by Mr. Bumpus (at a time when I couldn't afford to buy one).

I now lust after them. I LOVE the raw, uncut, visceral nature of them. I hate to see any Tuber go to waste. I hope this one finds a home and becomes road worthy.

I'm grateful to be back in the Buell family.

Ooohhh! Damn, I didn't see that the pictures were updated on the listing. The guy found the missing pieces? The seat back and mirrors had me really worried.

OK, now it's just a matter of 2000 miles between me and the bike. My record so far is 1600 mile retrieval (Omaha, NE to Palmdale, CA). Damn, damn, damn! Is it sold or not? How firm is he on that price? That's going to eat five days out of my life and 4K miles on my van.

Greg if there is anyone that needs that bike your the one!!!!! You could be the one to bring it back to life and restore it. Just think of it as a road trip.

Yeah, I don't mind a road trip. I still have the RR to worry about (still trying to find a donor bike).

This has the added advantage that the RR would get this OEM front motor mount and exhaust. The S2 parts could go on this one and be 'close enough.'

I'm pretty sure I can get him down at least $500 but, the more I think about it, I just don't care. In five years, it won't matter anyway. Time to get hold of him.

No answer on the email. I wonder if it's sold or if he's just not responding.
