Hi my names Chris and I've recently picked up a 97 m2. Man this thing is fun!.... but there are some changes I'd like to make. First off I am no stranger to buell/sportster motors but I AM when it comes to the bike as a whole and have many questions. About after a week of owning the bike the carbon fiber exhaust blew up (hole was the size of a softball). I have a thunder header slip on laying around and was thinking of fabbing it up to work. Has anyone done this? How did it work out for you? Another question I have is.... will the swingarm off a 2000 m2 fit the 97? Will there be any clearance or length issues with the belt? I did a quick search on these topics but did find much. Thanks in advance.

The thunderheader should work but it'll be loud and have a noticeable hole in the midrange where the reverse cone megaphone has bad reversion. The swing arm will fit but it requires different axle adjusters, brake mount (I think), and I believe the pivot arm that the swing arm bolts to is different as well (so it would also have to be switched).

The swingarm I was looking at is a complete assembly with motor mount/pivot attached and its only 80 clams. As far as a reverse megaphone are there any you can recommend that aren't too expensive. Trying to keep this build on the cheaper side.

Oh you can use the Thunderheader, and it'll make good peak power, just letting you know the 2500-3000 RPM reversion will be very noticeable. I actually ran about 7,000 miles on my bike with a custom muffler that had dual reverse cone megaphones, but I built baffles for it as without them it was unbearably loud.

Actually I still have it, and it's for sale if you're interested. You would need to fab a 2" 90* pipe to mount it to your header though, or likely use the one that came with your carbon fiber muffler if it's removeable.

Right on! I'm trying to get a deep throaty sound but still perform the way it should. Thanks for the input.

Man that don't look half bad. I might take you up on your offer. Also I'm definitely ordering the super bike tail section from air-tech. The stock tail section in my opinion is just.....meh

Let me know. I'll drop the price to $100 plus ship as I could use the funds for another project. I have over $200 invested in it.

Depending on your budget, Drummers are tough to beat. Not mine but this one is for an S1W. Incredible quality!

^^^^too funny. That's mine that was built for me last week. Havent put it on yet but excellent quality and Kevin is great to talk to and does fantastic work. Iam taking my SS2R off for this. Should get more power as well but yes not real cheap. Get what you pay for though.

I've got a Drummer on my 96S1, like it enough I'm going to order one for my X1 (still has the V&H on it....)

In my opinion, and I dont race and I have not had it dyno'd, but in my opinion the Drummer is a great exhaust, very well made, and it offers noticeable seat of the pants feel in torque and acceleration (perceived HP?). no flat spots and makes the stock 96S1 perform extremely well.

I highly recommend them from my experience

What's the cost of a drummer? I've looked at the website but did not see a price.

You mean stock swingarms? They are interchangeable, so long as you use the correct axle. You could go to the alloy one - Polished (and clear coated!) they look pretty good.

Here is a polished one on Veronica

here's a bit of info:

I have seen a billet one in the aftermarket - Motomechanix (sp?) I think Probably hard to find and expensive.

The one above that I built is $425 + shipping. I currently only do the 2.5" setup, I don't have a 2" header to build one from.

Seriously--a Thunderheader!! Horrible pipes unless you just like noise. The hole in the mid range is terrible! I show the Harley guys on dyno by doing a run covering the exhaust with a 2x4 then another open, the difference in the HP curve is amazing.
