so i have a s1w with a horrible (previous owner) custom 70's muscle car looking pipe on it.

what are the current exhaust/muffler options for s1/s1w's?

for some reason i cant find anything available for this bike. i've seen people running d&d, vance and hines, and etc., is that a custom setup or do these companies make stuff specifically for the s1?

thanks!

Force is remaking their exhaust for the S1's, but better than the originals.

I have a Borla on my s1W and I just recently bought a Drummer for the S1, REALLY like the Drummer stainless steel muffler, excellent power and sound (my opinion) and very well made (fact!)

I really recommend the Drummer, ordering one for my X1 to replace a Vance and Hines.

I would send a pm to D_Adams and see what he can make for you.

http://www.deanadamsdesigns.com/

He doesn't list tuber exhausts, but I'm sure he could build one for you.

Also Albert666 makes tuber exhausts, but he's in the UK so shipping may be a bit more.

http://www.aph-performance-engineering.com/

Both make excellent products.

Measure your header. S1W had a 2.5" collector, S1 had a 2". Race headers were 2.5", pointed to the rear of the bike (not across the bike like the stock headers).

I run a Buell Race exhaust on my S1W (header and muffler) and I love it. Dean would make a killing if he started reproducing the race header/muffler combo...just sayin'... ; )

ratbuell do you have a picture of the race header your talking about? i might be interested in d_adams replicating it if he can. i currently have a 2.5" header which reduces down to 2" to the funky tailpipe its got now.

i'd also be interested in waiting for the force exhaust to come out. older ones sound pretty good from the youtube videos i watched!!

Many people on here will agree that you can't beat the buell race exhaust. They are getting hard to find but they are out there. I'm guessing your header had a 2 inch elbow welded on,I would replace the elbow with 2.5 and find a race can. Installation needs to be done right no matter what you use or you can tear it up like a pop can. Starting at the heads bolt it all together loosely and before tightening it all down make sure there is no binding or tension. I give it a good shaking in the middle if that makes sense

Don't go with a Force exhaust. The destroy themselves over time. I had 3 on my last S2.

This is what I just put on my M2. No brackets on it yet, I need to get the updated hanger, mine is somewhat trashed.

Don't forget that its VERY important when buying an exhaust to clarify S1 vs. S1W. You'll not be happy if you order the wrong one (2" header vs. 2.5" header).

d_adams that looks great I like that a lot!

i think ill have to keep my eyes open for a race exhaust and header as i just checked my header and theres a small crack at the 2-1 weld.

thanks phelan for the info on the force exhaust! ill keep that in mind.

Hah, now that's pretty nifty. I'd never actually looked at or seen the factory race muffler/exhaust until now. I've seen pics of a few of the aftermarket offerings, then recently bought an M2. What came on it wasn't going to work for me, so I did my own thing and it was actually built for a different bike completely. Based on the pics in that ebay ad, it's a 2.5" internal, roughly 4" external shell? Maybe 13-14" long?

Dean, the shell if the race muffler is round, about 7" diameter IIRC. It's pretty large.

I'll be doing them for a fair bit less than $589 for just a slip-on muffler. It states 4" discs, so that's the OD of the muffler body. Same as what I built above, just mine don't have the "tuning discs" to restrict flow.

Cool beans, I should clarify, I'm talking about the Buell race muffler, which bolts onto the race header- not the Buell Pro series muffler, which was built by Supertrapp, and has the tuning discs. The race muffler does not have tuning discs. It is a straight-through design with a perforated pipe inside the body and packing around it.

I'll try and get photos of the race muffler one evening soon. What I think would be awesome is a race muffler offered with a choice of different inlet caps - 2" straight for s2, 2" elbow for stock early headers / EU headers, 2.5" elbow for stock later headers, and 2.5" straight for race headers.

I can probably do that, just need a little time and a 2" header to work with later. I will have a 2.5" one available first.

Race header and muffler on my S1W:

The red arrow in the last shot is the muffler/header joint.

Make note of the header mounting shoe in the third photo, attached to the factory Y hanger - it is unobtanium. Make a replacement, and I know a lot of owners would be THRILLED : )

As a note, I bought a standard Walker Exhaust 2" to 2.5" adapter years ago. Put it on my 2" factory S2 header, and the 2.5" race muffler fit right up.

A race muffler is a race muffler. It fits the 98-earlier race header, and the 99-up race header. The collector spot, relative to primary case and exhaust hanger, is the same.

I can take measurements, no problem. If you want to replicate...I could send a muffler to you. I have one on my S1W, and one on my M2L. Happy to loan it out (and a mounting shoe)...if it could help me end up with a third, to have on hand for my S2 ; )

As noted above, these are repackable mufflers. Perf tube in the center, packed (from Buell) with fiberglass packing. I pack mine with steel wool - sounds great, lasts pert-near forever. Riveted end caps - drill out the rivets on the outlet cap, pull it, repack, re-rivet...done.
