The OEM Blast! horn is pretty good, IMHO. It's no air horn, but for its size, it's pretty good. I've put one on my X1. | ||

Fiam Freeway Blaster... probably blister packed out on the shelf at your local auto parts store. Sounds like the original M2 horn (which was *great*). Probably the same as the blast horn. | ||

I've never cared for any OEM Buell horn (and Court can probably elaborate on the topic of Buell horns some...) but what I've done on my 1125CR and my XB12XT is to install the same horn that another or my bikes uses. I almost hate to bring it up, since it supports the mothership, but the V-Rod horn is loud & authoritative, doesn't have an annoying tone, and doesn't break the bank. It comes in a kit that has a handful of extra parts so the horn can be used on most H-D products. I think the most I've had to do to mount one is to use the bikes bracketry with the kit's horn. My experience has been that "horn" type horns, like those that came stock on the X1 and the VROD tend to get water in them and stop working. The disk type horns don't seem to mind getting wet. | ||

I came here to say just that. Ever since I took off my X1 plastic, rain did have a tendency to fill up my horn a bit. I have had good luck "unscrewing" the water out of the horn (Archimedes' screw!). If the contacts become corroded, there is an adjustment screw under a blob of silicone in the back. turn this forward and back to get your horn working again. | ||

I'm working on an X1 project this winter that needed a horn. Bought a "buell firebolt" horn on ebay for $8.95 including shipping. Found a nice spot to mount it and it works fine. Good enough to pass NY state inspection anyway. May not be the loudest horn in the world, but can't argue with the value... | ||

All horns are adjustable and it may NOT have shit the bed. There should be a set screw on the back, usually covered in a dollop of RTV. Hit the button to honk it, and turn the screw one way or the other. Even if it's only wheezing...turning the screw the right way should get it going again. Make sure the bike is RUNNING when you do this, since that's the voltage level it'll see when you need to use it in traffic. And you can turn the "horn shaped" horns so the trumpet points down and back, so it doesn't catch water as much. Not quite as effective as pointing right at the offending cager (forward), but more effective than a waterlogged unit. | ||

If you are really looking for LOUD - and don't tend to stand on it continuously....you could find an olde 6V horn. I did that on an olde chevy that was converted to 12V. The damn horn would decalcify your spine! | ||

Yeah, I put a 6v Volkswagon horn on my old '61 T110 Triumph that I run without a battery but converted to run on 12v. Always had plenty of audible oomph! | ||

Stebel nautilus. Loudest for the size. Just need to run a relay with a direct lead to battery or you may blow a fuse. Super loud. Lots of threads on here about this horn. |
