I currently have a vance & Hines can on the bike. It's fine I guess. A few years ago, I acquired a complete supertrap setup, can, brackets, clamps, etc.. and I just wondering if I should make the swap? Does anyone run the supertrap setup on their X1? thoughts? Feelings? |

Is it the newer supertrapp, or the old one? If it's the new one, yes, I would. It is built very well, and isn't all that loud. If it's the old one, they were recalled. Call supertrapp and see if they can replace it. You never know, they might have one stuffed in a warehouse. |

New one is the internal disk set-up. Good sturdy stuff there. Love it on my tuber. You'll gain back some lost midrange over the V&H putting on the 'Trapp if you don't run the open endcap , at least that's what my SOP dyno has told me. |

I had a V&H on my Cyclone, and still when I put on the SuperTrapp, I went 'wow!' the first time I rode it. They are heave, but as you know, the mass is centralized ! |

Definitely run the supertrapp. The v&h pipe is junk, if it hasn't fallen apart on you yet it will soon enough. |

"..The v&h pipe is junk.." I think that's a bit too harsh. I've had the SS2R on my X1 for over 20K miles and it still looks like the day I bought it. I think a lot of people tend to let the can go with no packing and that shortens its life significantly. I've repacked mine three times so far. (Message edited by kalali on May 28, 2013) |

The Trapp requires no repacking. It's a great pipe. If you have it, use it. |

Packing doesn't keep mounts from breaking welds...working at a dealer I saw too many busted ss2r cans - even properly packed - to count. I had one on an m2 of my own. Properly packed. Properly installed. Broke the top shoe 4x and the front bracket twice before I tossed it in the trash and put on the IDS supertrapp. My s1w had an ss2r when I got it...rear mount on it also got repaired numerous times while it was on there (i bought the bike with 1100 miles on it). I tossed it as soon as I found a race exhaust for the bike. V&h make a good product for cruisers. Their adaptation for tubers sucked. Kalai - keep an eye on all of your brackets and welds. Packing or no...they'll break. Not if...just when. And I have yet to see a supertrapp fail. |

I thought V&H beefed up the SS2R at some point to fix a fatigue failure issue. I had one for several years, no issues at all. Thought it was one of the "later" versions. But I would also switch that out with the Supertrapp if I were you. |

The supertrapp IDS and a tuber really were a match made in heaven. Tough, durable, great sounding but not stupid loud, not much tuning required, easy to maintain. |

I previously had a V&H. Biggest pile of crap ever conceived. I shit parts of that muffler all over northern Georgia. Currently have a Supertrapp and LOVE it. Great sound. Great performance. Greater still, MUCH better construction. Love the tuneability! |

FYI (most know this) the Trapp IDS was OEMed by Buell for the Buell Pro Series parts line. They are identical except for the logo. I don't know whether Buell had a hand in the design, but I do suspect it. |

I've run a SuperTrapp on my 01 S3T for the last 65K miles. It's a great muffler but you do need to repack occasionally. I've had no problem with the mounting hardware. I pull the muffler at each oil change to get to the primary drain. This is the version with the plates inside the can. Barry Hollister, CA |

Old = discs on the outside, shaped kinda like a trumpet. New = discs inside the canister, with an endcap covering them up. I want to say they are about a 5" diameter canister. |
