I think the seat is a RS1200 tail section from airtech http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/buell/RS120019 89-93.htm It has not been finished with the flip up section. They don't make the hardware so I guess if the hardware was lost or damaged your out of luck? |

Nope that's not it. It kinda looks like an S2 tail piece but it has a hump on the back with NO flair on the top. And it has 2 thin horizontal pieces across the grills. If it was custom made it was done pretty good. But I don't see someone going through the trouble in putting those horizontal parts in. Deal is done. It will be in transit 3/7 |

OK, now that I've seen the other photos, with the rear view of the rear bodywork, I'm going to rescind my previous statements about it being just a modified RS tail. Yes, I now see the vents in the back. It DOES look very S2-like. That's going to complicate things on the reassembly. How they interfaced with the rest of the RS bodywork is going to be interesting. If you decide to restore it to stock (flip-up seat), you're going to face a challenge with recreating or finding that hardware. And the next unknown will be: what did they do to the seat? If that's an RS seat that was modified, will it fit the stock bodywork again. Or: if it's an S2 seat, where ya' gonna' find an RS seat to replace it? I'm seriously not trying to talk you out of it but, if you get cold feet, I'll gladly take it. Especially if the guy is willing to work with a shipper. Not sure what your plans are for it or what your tolerance for hunting down parts is. I just don't want to see it parted out for a damn chopper. |

Amazing what can still be had for the "old" bikes by contacting EFB Designs. |

I Don't "THINK" it is an S2 tail or seat. It doesn't look as ANGLED as an S2. I can only wait & see when it gets here. I honestly think I like this look better than the flip up seat IMO. We will SEE..... |

I Don't "THINK" it is an S2 tail or seat. I'd have to agree. After seeing the pic of the tail section of said PMX 1200 I pulled up some of the scanned old pics of a 1992 RSS 1200, well actually 2 1992 RSS 1200's side by side - a Japanese spec RSS on the left and a US spec RSS on the right. The tail of PMX (minus that hump, of course) matches pretty well with the tail on both the 1992 RSS's.
So now I'm inclined to think it's a modified RSS tail. Where the hump came from and what the seat was modified from are still open points IMO, 1313 |

I think you're right, Brankin. The tag bracket is the same, too. The bike has the split fairing, too. |

Good call. The PMX seems to have a little more bulbous of a hump in the back than what appears on an RSS, but that would explain a lot. Nice catch, Brankin! Picture of the rear on the RSS bodywork at Uke's:

Yes, you did. I was unaware that the back and sides of the RSS tail were so different from the RS (aside from the obvious changes of the single vs. dual seat). |

Honestly I was unaware of the RS or RSS, now I think I may be a fan. This discussion has really peaked my interest. |

Must feel like Christmas, eh? Post up what you feel you need after you inventory the acquisitions. If there's a need to order from AirTech, maybe there would be others in need that would go for a larger order and perhaps a price break? Congrats on the new babies! |

Well they are here... The PMX was conceived on 3/9/13 at 11:30 Am. Lets see how long the pregnancy will last.... I hope it will be fast... I feel it kicking already... 16K on the clock. body work is in pretty good shape. Fairing needs some love. Started the mock up last night.. I got the motor assembled well kinda... (it will be rebuilt) & installed, front wheel & shock on. The 95 S2 is #1339 do not have plate or docs. 12k miles it needs some love but runs great!! Some pix I HOPE.. I did something right here.. Definatly NOT an S2 tail. but not here Clicky on this pic ^ (Message edited by k12pilot on March 10, 2013) (Message edited by k12pilot on March 10, 2013) (Message edited by k12pilot on March 10, 2013) (Message edited by k12pilot on March 10, 2013) |

"CHAMP"? I assume that's the seat for the Westwind? It doesn't look like it would mate to the bodywork, especially at the rear, plus the Lightning logo makes me go "Hmmm!" Lots of pieces! Looks familiar! |

Ok gents, Uploading pix now, of the past 24 hrs. Very interesting bike.. I believe that tail is factory built & the paint is original on the tail. Purists please chime it with any knowledge or history I'll do my best not to screw this up too much |
