+1 with Orngm2 on the fuel injectors. I just did a top end on my X1 and had problems with it stalling and running like crap under heavy loads at high RPMs. On a whim, I REMOVED the injectors and got them ultrasonically cleaned for $17.50 each. Was a new bike after that and have not had a problem since then. Too bad this wasn't a few years ago. I used to live in Prescott.

The cams in the X1 are pretty bumpy. The motor is going to run like crap below 3k. Sportsters will run fine there. Your bike is going to buck and snort below that, which can't be good for the motor. It's your motor, but IMHO, you should heed the collective wisdom of the many Buell riders here.

If the motor was removed check that they connected the injectors up correctly, ie front lead to front injector and rear to rear. They will run if they are they have accidently been reversed but tend to run like crap ; )

I do apologize for the length of this message, but I do need to elaborate on a few things with you all.

1.) I bought the Buell in 2007 from my friend who knocked up his GF and was moving. I got it for 1K. he didn't have any knowledge of changing the Fuel maps prior to my purchasing the bike.

2.) I have no air filter mod, and my AIT is on the right side and the intake sensor, HD zip tied above the air cleaner on the frame but below the fuel tank. Originally the air intake sensor was inside the air filter.

3.) I have a race ECM but im not sure the manufacturer of it. the race ECM has been with the bike for as long as i've had it and has worked well for the bike prior to the engine rebuild. I myself have never played with the fuel maps

4.) Some of you had wondered about a service manuel. I have owned one for about 3 years now and i do consult it a lot of the time.

So as I left off earlier, I did the TPS reset which helped a bit (consult my last post for details) but im still working on other issues. It seems i need to at least check the fuel injectors and make sure there are no clogs and or switch the fuel injectors around. I will inquire about an ultrasonic cleaning but im unfamiliar with the process or where I can get it done. guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.
I feel the next appropriate course of action is to work with the fuel injectors and i'll report back to you all. Your knowledge and wisdom are to my benefit and I thank you all very much.

I will actually post a video this week of everything im experiencing. I'll display the ECMSPY results before and after the test ride. I have a GOPRO camera that I can mount to my bike. This may give all of you a better Idea of what im experiencing. thanks again.

Just search online for ultrasonic fuel injector cleaning. If you can't find anything local, I know there are places that you can ship to instead. If you have a hard time, let me know. Here is one in Havasu.

So I tried swapping sides with the injectors in hopes to see if there was a difference and now the rear front cylinder injector is leaking. My luck. Should i just replace the o-rings or get new injectors. Oh and i didn't find any sort of debris when inspecting the injectors.

You may not see any problems with them visually. Mine looked clean when I took them out but I sent them out and they came back better. Most times they usually give you new orings as well.

Hang in there, I think you misunderstood what he was on about .re:-lead to injectors crossed and not to actually swap the injectors themselves.
I would get injectors cleaned or replaced as you can afford; they are probably origonal,which would justify replacement.
(it's only money)
HD mechanics study under a regime with a no-fail policy; Some get it,others get by. Learning to do it yourself is a part of the fun.

The injectors are not new and only have about 300 miles on them. The looked great though, truely new. Its my fault they are leaking so im just probably going to get new o-rings and see if that will work.

the o'rings will not fix the problem... if the rear injector is drooling, it is making the o2 sensor think it is running rich and the ECM is leaning it out. take the injectors out and get them cleaned and bench checked. it will fix the problem and make a WORLD of difference.

Ok, So what I meant to say was that the Injectors ARE new with only 300 miles on them. The leaking O-ring was actually leaking fuel out the top of the injector onto the block. So I did replace the O-ring and its not leaking.

So for the heck of it I took it out and this time I decided to keep it between 3k-4k rpm and it seemed to be running great. then the infamous immediate fuel pump shut down. It didn't even try to stay lit. So there I was on the side of the freeway. I turned it on again and it lit back up. I didn't go home, i took it about 12 more miles down the road and got more fuel. As soon as i left the parking lot it did the same thing. the fuel pump just shut down for no reason (or reason that i can explain)

Aside from the possible drooling injector, why does my fuel pump decide to shut down at random times?

I will look into getting the injectors bench cleaned. I'm trying to avoid touching them but if I must then I must.

I'll report back.

try this....
when the fuel pump dies, look under the seat and you will see 2 relays. one is for the fuel pump and the other is for ignition. SWAP the relays. and then try it... i had this exact problem on mine. i just replaced both relays for about $12 at HD.

If the injectors only have 300 miles on them and haven't been sitting with fuel in them for a long time (months), they should be fine. I figured you had the original 10+ year old injectors in there.

And if the problem still persists get ecmspy and log the ride to see if it shows what you are losing.
It was ecmspy that finally found my problem as being a loss of CPS signal even though the sensor had been changed twice, made up a new loom direct from sensor to ecu and the bike has run fine ever since.
If you have an Android phone you can even use that with ecmdroid App and a bluetooth modem plugged into your diagnostic port.

Sorry if this has already been suggested, but, have you dumped and flushed the fuel tank? Is your gas cap nice and tight? How's the o-ring on the gas cap? 100% sure there's no water in there? Just a suggestion, cuz you can clean the injectors all you want, but if you run crap gas back through them it will drive you nuts trying to figure out whats wrong.

MLV will allow you to view EcmSpy logging. http://www.efianalytics.com/MegaLogViewer/

All you need for now is to learn how to log in EcmSpy then view the log in MLV allowing you to search for problems.

The fuel filter is about 3 weeks old.

AFV is jumping around from 105% to 95% as of today, and I did check the 02 sensor, it had a bit of black crud on on but It just wiped off with a paper towel, im not suspecting that is a serious issue. i did replace the fuel pump relay which didn't make any changes to the ride, as suspected.

I did do a TPS reset as per the ECMspy insturctions and no changes. I'll keep probing at the problem.

All we need is a log with the engine misbehaving and you can look at what the sensors are seeing. MLV is a great tool but you can look at the data using MS Excel if you are more comfortable using it. I am quite happy for you to send the data to me and I will trawl through it and post the findings here.

Logging is just a case of connecting the lead to the ECM and laptop, starting the engine, pressing the connect button on ECMSpy then the logging button (it has a disk on it) then closing the laptop and going for a ride. At the end of the ride, open the laptop, click on the disk button and then shut down the engine. The log file can be found in c:\program files\ecmspy\megalog.

Things you need to consider:
1. Depending on how the laptop is configured, it may shut itself down when closed
2. If you are using Vista or 7 or 8, the settings may stop ECMSpy from writing to the above directory. I use XP so don't suffer from this issue but I know Kevmean had to jump this hurdle.

Yes I am using windows 7 on my computer, and i'll give that a whirl as well, hopefully some good info pops up. But finally my bike is starting to talk to me. I found that im having a BAS issue and it says my o2 sensor is detecting rich. Im going to change both of them out...

Don't swap the BAS, turn it off on the ECM Config tab.

Another thing that happened today when I was riding. I went for a ride with my buddy and we got off the highway to get gas and then I had started the bike back up and left the gas station and entered the highway and it died on me. It was as if the fuel pump kept cutting out when the bike was under load. So we put the bike in my truck and took it back to my house. I got a trouble code saying theBAS open or short of supply voltage" (as above) But funny thing is, I had already disable the BAS from my ECM. So why when it is disable is it still showing up as a trouble code?

Lastly, When I manually disable the BAS using ECM spy, it shows it is still activated when i plug it in again?
