I think it's pretty sweet, definitely don't like the "chopper Buells" in light of the fact they can't be replaced, otherwise I don't see this one as any worse than someone putting an S1 tail on an M2, looks sharp in my opinion!! | ||

I like featherbed frames, alloy tanks and oil tanks, Manx seats and cafe racers in general. And Buells. When this one first came up on the eBay, it was fascinating and troubling. In the end, it makes me think of the Egli Vincents, in a fascinating yet troubling way. Too bad it's so much money and in Calgary. Butcher'ed or not, I really like the look. I'm not sure how much fun it'd be doing the "ton" with no windscreen, but I'd wager there's no real loss in performance or handling with the mods he's made, maybe some comfort, but then the X1 wan't exactly the most comfortable ride ever made Just a different looking Buell | ||

Totally used the Norton for inspiration from what I see I think its great did not scape it out just made it Retro if Eric would have built a buell back in the day it would have looked like that! | ||

The curved section under the front of the seat is custom - this would be hidden on your S1 by the tail section. | ||

I like the conversion and think they did a nice job. I know that it might be relatively insignificant, but does having the oil tank that close to the engine cause cooling problems. Anyone know why it is where it is originally? | ||

It's under the seat but further back, more like where he has the battery... really not sure why they went to trouble of relocating it. As far as cooling issues, in the stock location, I'd say no. In this one? Looks to me a little like the rear cylinder is not only blocked from the front (as is the case on all Buells), but now also shielded on the backside. I wouldn't be surprised if the rear cylinder runs a little hotter than normal on this bike. | ||

Thanks XL1200r. I have an X1, so I know where it is now, but I was wondering why it is there. Before I asked, I assumed it was to keep the oil cooler. After I read your post, I am guessing it is to help maximize air flow to the rear cylinder? |
