I heard a nasty rumor from someone who claims insider info that OEM parts for the tubers are slowly being phased out of production. Personally I've had no trouble either finding parts in stock or having them ordered (with the exception of the Race Kit parts). Of course, I shop at a pretty decent dealership that (somewhat) cares. Anyone?

Since they no longer make the tube frame bikes, I'd say that it's a certainty that they are phasing out parts production. Will there be parts available for a long while? Time will tell. I wonder what their usage data tells them about which parts to continue making what with all the used parts being purchased from eBay?

parts are certainly being discontinued . . .things like race kits and bag lids have been obsoleted for a while now, with more to come, I'm sure . .. . I'd suspect other body work parts (tanks/tail sections) may also be obsoleted in the not-too-distant future, but that's a guess based on no hard data at all . . . all companies discontinue parts all the time, so this isn't too surprising . . .

the only parts I'd be really concerned about are buell-specific things like the shocks, but the aftermarket, thus far, has that area covered . . .. no reason to retire a tuber for lack of parts

Has anyone heard of a federal law requiring manufacturers to continue to provide parts for at least 10 years after production ceases? If this is so, then mid-'90s tuber parts will be strictly at Buell's accountants discretion.

the law is largely urban myth, but from what I remember, it applies to parts that would allow vehicals to pass emmissions tests . . . .. .

Sorry to hear that parts are being phased out so (relatively) quickly. I guess I've been spoiled by Mr. Honda. He supposedly decreed years ago that Honda would always maintain parts for any vehicle they produced. I can still get any OEM part made for my 83 VT500 Ascot except for the fuel tank and the seat. That's pretty impressive for a 21 year old low-production run vehicle.

Bomber is correct, no such law exists. For 1 thing how would it even be enforced? Companies are global now & purchasing from everyone & anyone. If a company producing a particular part where to either stop making or go out of business & were located over seas...what could any of our supposed laws do about it?

I recently got a fix on the rumour that there are four new Buell models on the way...hope one of'em is a resurrected S-1 that doesn't quit! I figure that there's gotta be a V-Rodney-powered Buell in there somewhere!
Who has the word?

Thor...Where are they? That City-X thing is a joke! Where's the new bagger? I finally got tired of waiting back in April and got an Aprilia Tuono. What a bike for only $11K. The riding position is much better, and that motor is the bomb.

>>>That City-X thing is a joke!

Maybe in LA but it'll be the Cat's Meow in NEW YORK CITY.

Short, Sassy and Squirty with enough torque to pull welded manhole lids!

The Tuono is a dandy bike with Mille style power. Bear in mind that the Cx is aimed at a dicidedly different market segment and is about 38% more expensive effectively ruling out the younger invitees to the Buell party.

One of the realities of the motorcycle world, and I concede that $11K for the Tuono provides good value, is that once you bust the $9,999 line you loose a LARGE group of buyers.

court...agree about busting the $9,999 level. Takes a lot more thinking. Other bike choices, financing, taxes, etc.

Rex:

Close your eyes and imagine the Buell Cx lurking under the Brooklyn Bdige at midnight under a full moon.

Or silouetted with the Rocekfeller Center Ice Rink and the Xmas tree in the back.

That bike absolutely growls!

Could happen....

or pounding up LSD at 2 aye emm -- right past Buckingham Fountain -- all the up Sheriden Road

(LSD = among other things, Lake Shore Drive, for both the non-Chicagoans, and those who are either familiar with, or have extrapolated, my sorted and fuzzy past)

I'll admit the scoot is growing on me, though I'd also vote for see-through hand guards

places for the new Buell CX....Yep pretty good. In the middle of a hundred ducatis at Ducati night in San jose.
On the edge of the golden gate in SF.
On cannery row during the Laguna Races.

Personally, I think the ideal place for the Cx would be in my driveway, idling, while I pull on my helmet and gloves. AL

Bomber, watch out for the graveyard at the north end of Lake Shore Drive and try not to rap the pipes going past the B'hei temple. Bob

It's seven years from date of production - but bikes don't qualify as they are considered by the government to be (I am ABSOLUTELY not kidding) "recreational vehicles". Write your congressperson/senator - I ride a motorcycle and I VOTE !!!
